It’s almost as though the invoice and money are way secondary to human kindness - helping your fellow human when they are in a bind. A-plus to you. Good job braving the heat, humidity and bugs. Even editing when you get home - not easy. My Dad too taught us to clean up behind ourselves - well done! These videos can pass all that on to the next generation. Have a great weekend!

The invoice & money are secondary. I won't disclose what I charged him but its probably 50% less than most would charge. He was in a tight spot, & I always try to be fair when I feel people are being genuine. But he did allow me to film, so that was a plus, & he said he'll recommend me to everyone he knows in the future with water problems. An Act of altruism sometimes is the best thing to do & Doing Good almost always comes full cicle.

When you checked for 120 volts to ground, remember that the switch body wasn’t grounded. That caused the low number. I hope you explained to the customer that the surface water getting in needs to be corrected and the current system has unsafe water.

I agree, No mater what is going on between the pressure switch and the well (except a short) you will read 120V from each leg to ground. Interesting the differences in well construction. Here in the frozen north we have to use pitiless adapters to keep piping below frost level, only the wiring goes up and over. Nice pump replacement walkthrough and good advice about not to over tighten the filter housing. Certainly got their money's worth out of the old pump.

@@tomschmidt381 While true that 120 volts would be measured from either leg to GROUND, he was measuring the voltages to a piece of metal. The input ground from the breaker panel was cut. There is PVC pipe to the left and right of the pressure tank, so there is no metallic connection through the plumbing. So the whole pressure tank assembly is electrically "floating", i.e. NOT GROUNDED. Severe electrocution hazard if either power leg should get connected to the tank metal parts. Add wet floor, five kids, write your own story. @h20, go back and fix this? Please!

I had a dozer come out to the house. He told me he was taught no matter what you do, the customer only sees the finished product. For a day job, it takes him an extra hour or so. When he is done, I do not have to go back behind him and make adjustments. Now, he plans on coming out for a day or two every year for things that are too big for me to handle on my own.

I wish. I tried getting a local drilling company (near Mt. Pleasant, TN, name a lot like “Gantry”) to change my well pump and connect it to my (new) house about three years ago. They called back with the well data (depth, casing, flow, date) and I never heard back from them despite calling several times over the next six months. Watching your videos I’m confident I have all the right parts (pumps, clamps, fittings, pipe, etc) to put this all together myself in the next few weeks. Funny, but my neighbor also had them come over on the same day one of the owners came to my property, they agreed to have them drill a new well and, six months to the day they just showed up unannounced with a drilling rig, got down to 110 feet, 1.5 GPM and stopped there. Six months out the well was pumping mud, neighbor had to get a plumber to install a filter. Funnier still, that samecompany that never returned my calls is now posting ads all over the county looking for work. I hope they go bankrupt. God Bless YOU though for all you do here on YT and in the field.

Your neighbor should compound their problems and sue them in small claims court for the bungled/incomplete job.
@normbal
@normbal 6 күн бұрын
@@buggsy5 Well drilling companies in that area are very territorial, like gangs. I’ve called others but get the same answer from each one. “Try “Sentry” company, we don’t work that far away.” Yeah, all of about 30 minutes from one of them, 45 for another. I tried calling a few of them and lied about my location and got similar answers. It’s like they have counties/boundaries, preexisting agreements not to step on each others’ turf. I doubt anyone will sue, but they’re the only game in town. I had a county building inspector tell me last year the TN legislature opassed a law making it illegal for homeowners to change out their own well pumps. I don’t know if this is true, I haven’t looked, but really? With a dysfunctional service industry like that what’s a farm/landowner to do?

cleaning as you go, make sense some times and for certain projects, otherwise it can be a big time waster. on a farm where the work may be spread all over the place, sure. but in a small house/room/basement doing plumbing or electrical, it's a waste of time cleaning up non-stop, especially if you're the only trade there. bust out the days labor, then clean up at the end. if it's an vacant/remodel, even leave the mess build-up for days and it still only takes about an hour max to clean everything.

@H2o Mechanic, enjoyed the video! Those fire ants are definitely a pain, I was hit 3 times in the leg by one, lying in an awkward position on the ground once... Actually I think it's nice that the customer realized you weren't "on the other side of the country" and decided to call. You obviously know your craft and your videos are proof. It's already tough enough dealing with a variety of home/auto maintenance elements so if you need some "professional help", finding out that you can get that much needed help via a member of the YT community, is a huge plus because contacting a business which is SUPPOSED to provide "professional services", WE ALL KNOW, does NOT ALWAYS = "professional results"... Idk if you'll see this comment but if someone may... Two things I wondered, 1. Why isn't the well cap "sealed" (with silicone etc., where needed) to prevent any rain water from getting into the well through those openings? 2. Is that muddy appearance simply because the rain water has filled up and spilled into the well? My dad, may he R.I.P., had an ~80' well and he talked about the pump and a "foot valve" or something coming losse & stirring up the water making it muddy. Idk anything about "well systems". I just remember that was something he mentioned.

He sent me photos and the crazy thing was near the top was this 3 or 4 inch steel pipe about 3 feet long. They had a hard time getting it up past the pitiless adapter.
