I was very lucky. I had a lovely doctor. She used a local anesthetic so it was literally a pinch that she apologized for. It wasn't even posed to me as a question. It wasn't "we can use a local if you want." It was "we will be using a local unless you give us a very good reason not to." I didn't know until recently that my experience was unique.

I wasn't even told to take ibuprofen beforehand, they literally told me to just come by, that it'd be quick and painless and they even laughed when I asked if I should have someone drive me to the clinic, they said I'd be more than okay to drive myself since it was just a 5 minutes pain-free procedure. It was the most painful drive home of my life.

It’s was SOOOOOO painful, and they downplayed it just like this. afterwards the nurse helping out told me “yeah, when I had it done I almost fainted!!” And I’m thinking “just 30 minutes ago you were telling me it was going to be a -slight pinch- ” It’s because if they tell you the reality no one would want to go through with it…then they wouldn’t get their kick back or compensation or whatever…I’m almost positive that’s why. It must be.

@@sarawallace6696They definitely do not. Women can have such incredible pain tolerances. My “I don’t feel very good” or “I’m in pain” is a 8/10 for most men. When I go in and my doctor is male, if I complain of anything is a pregnancy test, ibuprofen, and a dismissal. In our books, we are told "the patient usually feels a slight pressure" and we blindly believe that. I now question where that data is coming from? Were women made to fill out pain scale forms after the procedure? Or did male doctors in history just gaslight them into thinking 'it wasnt even that painful' or simply disregarded their pain as "drama", "hysteria" and "attention seeking". The empathy gap is real

I feel so blessed that a doctor finally takes me seriously about my menstrual cramps. This is unlerated but kinda relates. Idk. I had seen so many doctors, went to the ER, and it was put on my chart that I was Pill Seeking. They apparently couldn't find endometriosis. I have Fibromyalgia and my therapist informed me that it can cause debilitating cramps. I legitimately cannot move when my period starts. My male roommate has carried me around the house so many times (Props to him). I changed my PcP, luckily got a very empathetic woman, mentioned to her what my therapist said, told her my whole story, and she took the part about me seeking pain pills off of my chart and actually prescribed me a limited amount monthly and said my therapist is 100% right. She was mad mad at my former doctors. She even cried. She also believes me about my Fibromyalgia pain, and diognosed me with chronic fatigue syndrome when other doctors thought I was lying. Now I'm just ranting about how much I love my doctor....idk if I should delete this lol. Just know there are some doctors out there who will believe you. And cry with you.

I’ve had an iud for a long time now. A few years ago it had to be replaced, so I have had two different insertions. The first time was terrible. They told me to take ibuprofen, and when I got there the procedure took ten minutes. It was so painful and she was so rough. I was bleeding for days. The second time was with a different doctor. The procedure took 45 minutes to remove and replace, and I was given pain meds and local anesthesia. I didn’t know that there was a better way. Please spread awareness. Be willing to advocate for yourself. And if you don’t feel comfortable, back out. You have that right, whether it’s inconvenient for the providers or not.

Failure to provide proper pain relief qualifies as negligence. I strongly encourage you to sue for medical malpractice, negligence, lack of informed consent (the doctor lying about the pain of the procedure), emotional distress, and even possibly gender discrimination as men are given anesthesia for vasectomies, prostate biopsies, etc. You can ask a lawyer what your options are. A lot of lawyers offer a free consultation and they don't charge their client unless they win the case. Got mine inserted in Brazil (where I'm from), and when I asked about anesthesia the doctor basically said "yeah lol they'll put you to sleep obviously, it's like a mini-surgery, we don't do that with the patient awake anymore". My gynecologist didn't even do it herself, I scheduled it at a different place that specialized in it. Whole thing covered by my insurance. Took a wonderful nap and woke up to mild cramping the next few days, nothing ibuprofen couldn't handle. Granted; back home I'm middle class and had insurance, I don't know what it's like for the great portion of the population dependent on government Healthcare, but still. It's wild to me that a country like the US is different. Now that I moved here, I'm scared of when time comes to take it out, but I'll just pay whatever it takes to get anesthesia again!!!! They LAUGHED at me and said “I’m gonna need more lube”. I told them I had trauma and hadn’t… done anything like that before and they didn’t believe me. Then realized I wasn’t lying and said out loud “I guess you weren’t kidding when you said no activity”. They never told me to take painkillers before. They never even mentioned the concept of anesthesia and when I asked they chuckled then too, saying how many of these they do every day without anyone needing anesthesia. They said it would bring on my next period early instead of admitting I was going to be bleeding from a wound. They told me that I needed to push through it because a break to calm down before they tried again would “only make it worse”. Now they get mad when I tell them they’re never getting another pap from me. They’re never going there again. I have other medical needs for a hysterectomy and when my Paraguard runs out I’m doing that instead of dealing with this again. I trust doctors for the most part. They know what they’re doing and how to do it, so as long as they’re listening to the part I’m an expert in (my body and what’s happening to it/how it feels), then I am willing to try whatever they suggest. But nothing will ever get me to trust a gynecologist again. I told them I had trauma and they traumatized me worse and laughed at me. I’ll never get that sound out of my head. I have severe PTSD that is being treated as best it can. I know what flashbacks are very well unfortunately. And every time I have too bad cramping from my period, I have flashbacks to both the procedure and the nearly two weeks of aching and nausea and inability to move without nearly crying. The IUD is an extremely important type of birth control that is inserted via abusive and deceptive methods by most doctors. For a procedure this invasive below the belt on an amab, I know for a fact they’d have some type of anesthesia. But not us, and it’s disgusting.

I hadn't taken any painkillers beforehand because I went there to get checked if my ovarian cyst had disappeared. It had and they recommended an IUD or pills to keep my cysts, polyps and other things under control. I refused to eat the pills, because I hate having to remember to eat them regularly and chose the IUD. They offered to either put it in right away without any pain management or I could make an appointment for later date with pain management. My first IUD (Paragard, on 10/11/11) was very painful & I was already dreading the eventual removal. I went to the local Health Dept bc I had Medicaid & at that time I couldn’t find a dr that wasn’t already full of medicaid patients. I was told to come in while on my cycle & to take ibuprofen before I got there. My nerves were so shot by the end of it that I had to warn the nurse lady “I need to use the bathroom.. my stomach is fixing to mess up..” but she didn’t understand my urgency, apparently, bc she says “oh that’s just the cramping, you’ll have that for the next day or so..” but she didn’t get it- I NEEDED TO GO! So I got stern, REALLY not wanting to go poo all over this lady & was like “I NEED to go to the bathroom like NOW. It is LITERALLY taking everything in me not to crap everywhere right now & YOU are in the line of fire!!” She FINALLY finished up & I was not wrong- I BARELY made it to the bathroom. The rest of the day was more of the same crap- literally! They told me to take 4 ibuprofen every 4 hours & that messed up my stomach even worse! My second one (Mirena, on 01/02/24) was better. I actually have a Gynecologist now & he sent me home with half a pill to make me dilate the night before (which is crampy but tolerable) & I took ibuprofen before going in. He actually numbed me some, & I had asked how painful it would be removing the Paragard & he said “just a pinch” as he yanked it out very quickly. Might seem kinda messed up & it did surprise me but I didn’t have much time to dread it, not knowing exactly when it would happen, so I actually appreciated it. The insertion of the Mirena was uncomfortable, just some tolerable cramping but I didn’t almost crap on him so I’d say it went better that time! No issues with either one after insertion. Only “con” was the Paragard made me cramp & bleed like crazy every month! And now I’m no longer anemic anymore, so there’s that..

I had a colposcopy in my 20’s and was given an anti anxiety med beforehand and was recommended to take a couple Tylenol or something as well. I had to bite down on a cloth to keep from screaming it hurt so bad and they told me to wear a liner for the next week or so for any potential bleeding. There was no warning about the sudden torrent I got one day as I was at work… luckily I hadn’t listened and had been using full sized pads. Got an IUD put in a little over 2 years ago. While it has been a godsend to not have to deal with my super heavy periods and it has greatly decreased the migraines that come along with them, I was never even given advice to take something beforehand when I got mind put in. I couldn’t even move for a good half hour because the cramping hurt so bad and had to pull over on the drive home because I thought I was going to pass out from the pain. My doctor was sadistic. I had a biopsy of my cervix at 17. When I screamed in pain, he responded with "what's the fuss, that didn't hurt". Not only was I not told that it might hurt, but I was told that the "cervix had no nerves" - so no need to worry. Years later through medical records, I found out that my pap smear, on which this procedure was based, showed no abnormalities. He did the procedure right after I asked for birth control. Obviously, I shouldn't be having sex according to him.( 1983)😮

Those of us who have had intercourse know that this is untrue. Not to mention that during labor, the pain you feel is not just the baby crowning. Prior to that, it's the cervix dilating, and it's very painful. Male doctors have no idea what women are feeling and what an individuals pain tolerance will be. The problem is that the field has been dominated by men for so long that even most female obgyns, knowing that this is a painful procedure, still won't offer sedation.

Somewhat unrelated, but I had a loop recorder inserted in my chest, somewhat over my left breast. It was to monitor my A Fib. The recorder looks like a thumb drive, just a tad smaller. I was told a little local anesthesia and I wouldn't feel anything. The surgeon was 2 hours late and I became VERY anxious. I asked the nurse over 1/2 a dozen times for something to calm me down. She refused every time and never even called a doctor. When the surgeon got there, he gave me 2 shots of some kind of lidocaine, and made the incision without waiting because he was running behind. By that time I was sobbing from anxiety AND pain. He stopped for a second, looked at me and asked, "Do you want me to stop? I can't stand this crying." I let him finish, it needed to be done. That night I went to the ER because the incision wouldn't stop bleeding. Because I had nothing else to do for 4 hours, I pressed on it in hopes that the bleeding would stop. Finally an ER doctor came and just changed the dressing. 9 days later I woke up with the loop recorder sticking 1/2 an inch out of my chest. No bleeding, just sticking out. By the end of the day, it fell all the way out. Never again. Would it have killed someone to give me a Xanax or Valium or something? Then it might not have hurt so much and the surgeon might have spent the time to fully insert the recorder.

I usually like my gynecologist and have been a patient for years. He actually listens and understands my paranoia due to family history. He told me the insertion would be uncomfortable. After, I told him to stop lying to patients because that shot hurts. He did tell me to take my time getting up as some people get dizzy. Fast forward a few years. I have had a uterine ablation to treat dysfunctional uterine bleeding. I can't take any hormones due to being a clotting risk. Already nearly died from a pulmonary embolism and have no desire to gamble again. Thankfully, we tied my tubes and removed the iud at that time under a general anesthesia. I present with vaginal bleeding after no period in several years. Due to my family history, doc orders an ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy. He tells me before the biopsy "this is going to hurt". The reason was due to scarring from the ablation. He was not lying. I'm no baby when it comes to pain. I birthed 2 children with no epidural. That was extremely painful. It took everything in me to not kick him in the face. I told him that if we ever had to do that again, he better sedate me because that is torture that no one should have to experiment.

They kept me for 5 days on IV antibiotics, then sent me home without taking the appendix out. They said it had formed a sort of cyst inside of my abdomen, that eventually it would have to be removed and then they sent me home. I kept calling them and begging them to get the surgery done and they kept sending me for blood tests and then a colonoscopy which was on March 14th, I remember because the next day I collapsed in a Kroger grocery store and was once again rushed to the hospital where they said that "cyst" that held all the toxins from my ruptured appendix had ruptured. I was rushed to another hospital at my insistence and by March 16th I was in surgery finally getting that appendix removed. The next day while recovering in the hospital I had a heart attack. I just turned 40 guys. The cardiologist tells me the only known cause for my heart attack was prolonged exposure to toxic sepsis. I've been told by several Physicians that I need to thank God twice I'm still alive. What's crazy is by March I looked like I was 9 months pregnant and one of the first things they would say to me when I tried to call and beg for this to be taken out of me was that they couldn't give me any pain pills if that's what I was seeking !! Not one time was I prescribed narcotics or any pain relief during this whole experience until I was actually in the hospital and I get that there's an epidemic going on but Jesus what part of my body has to fall off before they recognize I'm a human being

Yeah I'd like to comment and say that shit hurts!!! I wasn't even told to take ibuprofen beforehand. I came in and the woman was like oh well you should have took some bit don't worry we can get you some. Okay thats great. Then she says we'll it's gonna feel like a big cramp maybe like some contractions. Then I got worried but was like okay let's go ahead and do this. I'm thinking how bad can it be if all your saying is I need sowm ibuprofen, right ? Well then she RIPPED my uterus open and shoved that thing in and I felt like I was gonna die. Felt like I was being stabbed in the left side of my pelvis. Once I hobbled out to my car I sat for 30 minutes in pain and I started to drive then had to pull over and throw up. Sweating profusely. Today is day 3 and I'm pacing the floor of my living room googling iud cramps and eating ibuprofen. Anyways just wanted to say yes it's painful and there definitely needs to be some greater pain management with iud insertions.

I was in such pain during the procedure, that I vomited and then passed out. I woke up in another room, when an assistant mesured my blood pressure and said "Oh, it's finally measurable again". After that, I had bleeding and cramps for an entire month. My uterus tried to get rid of this plastic thingy. After several months of pain, I finally got rid of it. Luckily, I have a more empathic and very good describing gyn now. After several switches I finally feel safe.

I've gotten multiple IUDs, I'm actually due to have my current one replaced. I really love it as birth control, but the first time I got it I was in SO MUCH pain. I followed all the rules, took the pain meds prior to the procedure, and still suffered. What was the most annoying was afterward they said, "You can rest in the room as long as you need. Have a good day!" And they left, then ten minutes later the nurse came back in and was SHOCKED I was still sitting there in severe pain, like take the hint Marsha. So she made me leave (I get it, other patients) but offered me no help. As I was standing in line to check out of my appointment I suddenly collapsed on the ground and started dry heaving (still no one helped.) I am not sensitive to pain, I have a lot of tattoos and I didn't use numbing cream for any of them. (Both arms, full sleeves, large chest tattoo, stomach tattoo, shins, ankles, back. All over. Big tattoos.) This is the first time pain has made me vomit. I think every other doctor I've been to has given me a local because they never ever hurt that bad again. T'ain't fun, my friends. Still worth the luxury of not having a period and not having to take daily/weekly birth control IMO. If I have to collapse vomiting once every 5 years, so be it. But if it can be avoided then PLEASE. Slather me in numbing cream for Buddha's sake.

I was sweating and shaking, and I had to crawl to the toilet to puke because I literally couldn't walk from the pain. I couldn't leave the bathroom floor for hours. She didn't care. She's mormon and couldn't deal with her daughter not believing in her religion and having premarital sex due to a lot of SA starting at 4 years old that she refused to believe or acknowledge. @@ambercotroneit's very difficult in my experience. I am in pain management and she was the one to mention I might have it. @whiterabbit6148
@whiterabbit6148 Ай бұрын
@@ambercotroneit can take a long time to be diagnosed. Some people wait 10-15 years for a diagnosis because doctors will either dismiss your symptoms/concerns, or they will not be knowledgeable on the condition (some docs literally haven’t heard of EDS or hEDS), or they have a chip on their shoulder and believe that you couldn’t possibly know what’s going on with your body more than them. I’ve been trying to find answers for my symptoms since 2019, but that was just when things got bad; I’ve had symptoms my whole life. I’ve had multiple CTs, multiple MRIs, multiple neck and spinal ultrasounds, multiple PT referrals, and multiple doctors tell me to my face that they don’t know what is going on with me. One of my last Physical Therapists strongly urged me to bring up Ehlers Danlos to my doctors. I had heard of it before, but never thought I could have had it until I compared my symptoms, and it fit like a glove. I even passed the clinical observation tests for hEDS, which is known for the type of pain I had been experiencing! I’m a military spouse, and we have since PCS’d to a new state, so I have yet to actually be seen by my new doc, so we shall see how it progresses… Anyway, long story short, don’t give up. YOU know your body. You may have to go through several rounds of testing, and see multiple docs to rule out other things that can mimic EDS, but you need to keep with it, and advocate for yourself, or bring a partner or family member with you to appointments to back you up. Having an answer and official diagnosis of EDS can bring more credence to your complaints, like not being affected as strongly by anesthesia, or chronic musculoskeletal pain, or pelvic organ issues, etc. Good luck! ❤

She used a some tonges to insert in my cervix and stretch then open wide enough for the IUD to pass through with an Insertion device specifically designed for the IUD - it was very minimal.
