Ubisoft ruin things new and old, no matter what the fans want. For example, witb assassin's creed syndicate, I was so excited because the setting was my dream setting back then! The advertising made clear Jacob was the main character, and evie was really an extra character. I got the game, and don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but evie was indeed an extra in Jacob's game, the problem was that evie was also extremely cringe, 2 dimensional, and her chatacter simply didn't suit the experience that had been build. I never wanted to play as her, and when I had to it was frustrating. The season pass dlc sotrylines were both painfully bias to evie on the grounds that Jacob was the base game main protagonist, yet evie was still playable in Jacob's game, meanwhile Jacob was outright removed from evie's dlc. This didn't feel like an effort to make them equal, more it felt like an effort to replace Jacob with his boring sister. The journalists began painfully slandering and attacking Jacob's character at this time, to a point where even Jacob's actor spoke out and stated that he felt journalists and reviewers couldn't have possibly played the game due to how inaccurate their takes on Jacob were, and eventually simply saying you liked Jacob more than evie was enough for "fans" to attack you as well. In this time, evie suddenly began being referred to as "the protagonist" even tho the game as a product is clearly about Jacob, not Jacob and evie, just Jacob. Evie had a equal amount of storyline in syndicate to that of what Haytham or Aya had in AC3 or Origins. So how she became a "protagonist" is beyond me. All of the toxicity and double standards against Jacob were also against me as a fan who wanted to play that game that was advertised. Jacob running a gang called the rooks, while he assassinates templars in victorian london. But all of a sudden I was being fed this lie that the game is really about evie chasing the shroud and going on dares with Henry. Safe to say if that had been advertised, I may have never paid for the game at all! Both the reality of syndicate as a game and Jacob a as character have since been lost to obscurity, even people who played syndicate fall for some of the lies told to promote evie, and devlaue Jacob. That's how aggressive the campaign ti essentially dethrone Jacob as the protagonist, has been. When I played odyssey, I noted that the devs managed to squeeze Aya into the game alongside Bayek, but instead of Jacob and evie, we had evie and the blighters. It was then I realised the double standards. It was never about making the frye twins equal. It was about trying to replace Jacob with evie. And ever since the game has had a massively unhealthy fan base who are always attacked by the extremely toxic fan base for evie. Because fundamentally Jacob is still the main character, so Jacob's fans are upset due to how badly treated their favourite character is. And evie fans (tho there are far fewer of them) are angry because they want everything just for their character and they have been told by journalists that they deserve to give the boot to Jacob's fans. This is why I knew instantly I wouldn't buy shadows. I am not going through that with any game again. It was and continues to be so toxic!

I'd wager it's leads of the company outside of the typical executive seats that are the real problem.

100% of the money spent on Ubisoft’s UPlay/Connect launcher is misappropriated at the very least. There’s a good chance they have a bunch of background extras doing minimal work when there’s nearly 20,000 employees.
@elfgelfАй бұрын
Ubisoft got what they deserved. A decade of stagnancy and fluffed launches, forced online play, shitty launcher. I literally could not give 2 fucks about them going under. Sad for the employees but oh well.

Good riddance to a blight on gaming. What once was one of the producers of some of the best games for its time, turned into a greedy, uncreative, boring and lifeless machine. Abusing its consumers with garbage business practices, forcing their dumb service down your throat, and releasing unfinished games with deluxe editions.
@matthewhardwick8208Ай бұрын
This is honestly the most tragic downfall of a video game company. Ubisoft used to be one of the best in the world. Making legendary franchises. But now they're making flops. Losing a lot of money and trust from gamers.

The sad part is. . . ubisoft actually had some good IPs/Entries if they just knew how to make them like they did before. An actual sequel to Watch_Dogs 2 (no, legion doesn't count), a sequel to Assassins Creed Black Flag (no, skull and bones doesn't count). A far cry styled splinter cell game (I imagine it similar to how Metal Gear Solid V was design). Point is, it's not like the ubisoft brand were in a position where this outcome was unavoidable. The problem is ubisoft just doesn't know how to make the "correct" games anymore. Even watch_dogs legion was the closest they got but decided to mess it up by doing lazy AI voice acting with no real story or character design. Ubisoft just needs to make good games again and they'll be fine. But that means ubisoft FIRST needs to get out of their own way, which isn't going to happen any time soon.

Ubisoft is going down the Konami path. Massive fall from grace. They should sell to vivendi and relinquish ownership, instead becoming board members and investors. Eidos did that with SquareEnix in the late 2000's and I believe it's worked out for both parties

Lost Crown was one of the best games in 2024, proof that Ubisoft can still make good games when they want to. Of course, they said it was a failure because it didn't sell the unrealistic number of units they expected and now it's likely we won't get another game in that series for a while.
@ronniefazzio6979Ай бұрын
Yeah, apparently they were expecting it to do like 3 million copies almost out of the gate. Which if that’s true is insane.

Rider's Republic is actually really good, if it didn't require it's own launcher, internet connection and wasn't an Epic exclusive I'd probably play it regularly. Unfortunately that's not the case.

People don't understand that this is a management buyout with their major investor. This is common practice to wipeout your other share holders and clean up your cap table. It has all sorts of benefits and allows you to restart your investment drive.

What's rough is assassins creed was part of intel's HOLIDAY gaming bundle (free with a laptop, cpu or videocard) kinda going to be an Easter holiday bundle by the time anyone gets it and Intel is hurting already
@thebuccaneersdenАй бұрын
Oh wells. I can count on one hand how many Ubisoft games that I truly enjoyed. Ubisoft also pumped out a lot of shovelware. I’m sure poor management is part of why they are struggling (ain’t that always the way?), but I also have a feeling it’s because they spread themselves too thinly when it comes to resources and game designers.
@mortiz4576Ай бұрын
Ubisoft is really dropping the ball here. WatchDogs was a huge letdown that has been revived by the modding community. Now it’s a game that if you played it you wouldn’t even think it was ever made by Ubisoft.

Is it actually surprising???...they have lost touch with gaming.
@nukers1234Ай бұрын
Or the loud gamers have lost touch with gaming. Because ubisoft have created a lot of great games the last years, but the elitest gamers have been taking over, and anything less than a 9,5 is trash...
@lochlannach7Ай бұрын
@@nukers1234 No, you just give mediocrity a pass and allowed it to become the standard. Ubisoft used to make games that had a soul, now most of them seem soulless.

I'm kind of hoping that Ubisoft & Tencent are open to selling Ubisoft Toronto to Nintendo. Assuming most to all of the members that worked on Starlink are still working there, I would like to see them take a crack at an open planet & universe Star Fox game sans toys to life feature outside of maybe some minor Fox, Falco, & Wolf amiibo support.

My plan for Ubisoft tomorrow is short the stock like crazy. Then down the line try and pinpoint the reversal and then ride the stock back up. (A bit of a gamble but could be lucrative, especially if there is news on a take over)

If "The Division" IP doesn't get picked up or at least finished it will be a huge loss to gaming. It's got such a vibrant community that has been massively under utiltised by Ubisoft.

That’s no trouble at all; it’s just part of being a public company. It happens all the time. And the Guillemot brothers have to approve as they still have a controlling stake. Tencent could issue a tender offer to gain control, but that would hostile and produce the results they seek.

I started losing faith on Ubisoft when they pivoted last minute on prince of persia two thrones, i was realy excited for the original version of it, but then last minute they changed the whole concept of the game because of the warrior within reception
@DizzyDiddyАй бұрын
They could announce they are going to change their strategy around deep sales and stop devaluing their IP so much. Some of their games are good enough that they don't need to do deep sales so consistently across the board. They can be more selective and hold out longer even if they give up some revenue in the short term to do it. It would help them build value again long term.

There are things about the new AC game that are just crazy to me. I read the Assassin’s Creed Shadows DRM wants to monitor your RAM. This is crazy to me. I hope they fail on that alone. I wanted this to succeed until I read that. We cannot normalize companies invading our privacy like this just to advertise better. smh.

Assassin's Creed Shadows has a massive uphill battle that I'm afraid it won't be able to conquer. I think Tencent will end up buying the company and taking it private, and getting rid of the Gullimot family. Sadly, I also think that A LOT devs will lose their jobs, which sucks.

I wonder how the move from French to Chinese ownership will affect Ubisoft here in Quebec. Ubisoft Montreal is one of the biggest game studio and creator of the biggest Ubisoft titles. I'm pretty sure the Quebec government helped a lot because it was a french company. This might help Guillemot somehow >_>

tbh it's been known that the top brass at ubisoft have been eyeing a buyout for a good while now. it was jsut the question of when it would be most profitable for the family in charge. the amount of stories i've heard of the top at ubisoft directly sabotaging development of games is insane. like suddenly not wanting to give the budget for historians on ass creed shadows. talking shit about their customers. throwing games out before their finished at insane prices with multiple versions with locked content behind higher prices. all of which will probably only get worse under tencent. at this point i hope ubisoft just rots away and has it's IP's scooped up by more competent publishers that will actually give them the time/ money they need to make a decent game
