Our well on this farm is 816 ft. deep. The pump went bad 2 years ago and we had to have it pulled and replaced. The old pump was at 550 ft. When they went to put the new one down, they hit something at 435 ft. Not wanting to damage the pump or risk getting it caught , they decided to let it ride. We had water. Had. This past summer, we started having issues running short of water. The same technicians came back out and determined that we would need to drill a new well. We got 4 estimates ranging from $35,000-$49,000. One of the well companies suggested that we send their camera down the well and see if we could see what the problem was. The cost for that was around $3000. Turns out, the pump was sitting at 435 ft. and the static level of the water was 439 ft. They added 1 20 ft. section of pipe and got the pump to 454 ft., and we now have plenty of water. Here is the problem. The absolute rock bottom limit of depth for a 1 1/2 h.p. pump on 1 1/2 inch plastic pipe is 365 ft. We have 1 1/4 inch plastic pipe at 454 ft. Every time the that the pump kicks on, it is causing a twist in the pipe. Eventually, it will be a problem. A big problem. Like a $4000 pump dropping down into the well to never be seen again. Our plan is to go with the 1st 100 ft. down from the surface with stainless steel pipe and then bushing to 1 1/2 plastic for the remainder of the distance down to the pump. Right now, stainless steel is so high, it may just be cheaper to go with pure gold. I think we all try to ride out this year and hope that supply chain issues get a course correction and perhaps by then, we may have the adults back in charge. Thanks for this video Brad and deb. Very interesting.

We watched your video on that and it was very interesting. That's crazy deep for a well and would leave us to make hard decisions about our land if we had to spend $50K to get water. Loved the video on putting another screen in the well. I think that is what I need. I wish you had showed the part better where he was flushing out the well casing. The part where the pump had been pulled and he forced air/water into the casing and tried to flush the sediment out of the well. Another thing that needs to be stressed is that the original well casing (4") already has the "slits" in the screen in the bottom 20-40' of the casing. The bottom of the casing will have a cap or plug on it. The outside of the casing will have a gravel packing of sorts that would have been poured in the hole (canula) and would have dropped down the 210' to surround the bottom of the well casing...forcing the sand/sediment to go through a gravel pack before reaching the screen. This is where I think the well drillers collapsed my casing and why I get sediment. What happened on your repair is that they stayed on the inside of the casing, removed the down pipe and pump, then drilled threw the end cap of your 210' well casing at the bottom as they drilled further into the substrate to 240'-260' or so. Then they inserted into that drilled hole, without casing mind you a 2" screen (finer? slits) 40' of it into the hole...then placed a plug on the end of that and pushed that plug and screen down to the 210' level with the drill pipe, drill head removed. Then inserted your pump back in. No, post repair, the water entering your old 4" screen will not have to also travel to and through your 2" screen to get to the inner casing and up through your new plug and into your pump to be pumped to the surface. Whew! Let me know if I missed anything.... My issue, problem, question is where is the link to that plug, that 2" screen...both of which I can probably get form well driller... and how the heck will this DIY guy do the same? I mean, I can pull the pump...I don't need or want to drill deeper, and past the end cap of mine, but I do want insert a 2" inner screen with the plug....how will I as a DIY guy push that plug to the bottom where it needs to be? My well is 205' my casing has filled with sediment to 195' (old depth of my pump) and has since been raised by hand to 185' level. My static water level is 85' so I can pull her up some more for sure. FYI my well was drilled by the man's son and started pumping sediment within 30min of pumping, kid stopped and on phone with dad...."Dad says the well will be low producing and you can have as is for 2500 (agreed price was near 6k) or he will abandon. Leaving me with nothing and a mess....I chose to keep the well and it pumps 5-10gpm anytime I want, just has sediment... argh. I think he collapsed the screen with the gravel pack and that is how sand is getting in. I want to first pull the well, then blow it out with air and see how that goes...if that doesn't work, give it a year and pull it out and place the inner screen. Your thoughts...and 706 plus my number 825 and then the last part 7180 is my number t call me if you would like to talk. I would prefer that if you don't mind or anyone with a phone that could lend some advice. Tks again. Great vid. :)

I am not a well guy, but maybe your 1,5hp pump is to strong for that little pipe which goes up. My thoughts is, when the switch goes on, in the same moment that pump sucks so strong at that little surface what it has, creats a vaccuum and suck up all the dirt even when you flush it again. So maybe it would be better to get that smaller pump in it runs maybe a little longer, but that doesent matter bc. you use a pressuretank. Greetings from Germany
@PineyGroveHomestead
@PineyGroveHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
The pump is suspended in what should be 60 feet of clear water with the limestone rock to filter the water once the initial drillings are flushed out. But because of the sand pocket, there is always new sand coming into that 4" column. The 1.5HP pump is needed for 15gpm service to 2 houses, a workshop, and an animal barn, as well as irrigation. Greg said he routinely digs wells in the area that will service 5-6 mobile homes. Much more to come on this story....stay tuned! Brad&Deb
