I’ve been dancing all around this log for about a year- finally time to open it up and see what I can get from it! Turns out it was well worth the effort.

Thanks for the kind words- I’ve got a few plans for my sawmill- like a log turner and hydra back stops and clamps. I’ve got to stop using it long enough make the modifications though! Cheers! Jeff

Nice video Jeff. Dad has been at me to learn how to run his sawmill but I haven't slowed down enough yet to take a lesson! It looks like a great way to put in a morning that's for sure! Take care, Jason.

Hi Jeff!!😀😀 Loved the video!!😀😀 I always watch the whole video. I just love watching you do what you do. I'm considering retiring soon from logging. My body just can't take the pounding that I get from running the logging equipment anymore. I'm wanting to get me a firewood processor and a small sawmill just to make a few dollars on the side. I already have all the support equipment for both jobs. Do you have any idea how much you have invested in your mill not counting your time?? I was surprised that you didn't keep those live edge planks and sold them to the woodworkers for over double what the 2 x 12 was worth with less work. Take care my friend!!😀😀👍👍 Logger Al
@thelogfather50022 жыл бұрын
Hi Al! I can’t seem to find a market here for live edge lumber- I have a shed full of hardwood- beautiful maple, oak, ash, and some cherry. I need to figure out what to do with it. When I sold my shop, I wanted to do more outdoors- automotive work is hard as well on my body. I find this refreshingly easier. The support equipment is way more important than many folks think! I’m happy with the way my gear pays me back! Thanks again for your support- Blessings, Jeff.
@aldredske61972 жыл бұрын
@@thelogfather5002 have you tried to sell it on Facebook market place or craigslist and maybe even Ebay? I'm sure that there has to be a market somewhere for that beautiful live edge.
@thelogfather50022 жыл бұрын
@@aldredske6197 to be honest- I’m afraid to advertise- I feel like I’m too busy now. I advertise for my firewood sales- and I’m already maxed at 150 cords for this year so I can’t take anymore orders- but that leaves some room for lumber. I get in the zone of making it- I don’t think about selling it. :)

Any issues with cupping and such? I’ve seen a lot of videos that stress how important grain orientation is but following their techniques a 2x12 is extremely hard to come by. Any tips?
@thelogfather5002 Жыл бұрын
The key is to sticker and weight them when you take them off. They’ll stay straight that way. Try to never cross the pith, keep the same grain direction in the same piece of lumber- that’s my strategy for making straight lumber.

What brand mill is that?

I think people buy these slow sawmills because there's more money in videos than cutting wood and one log with these rigs is enough to make one. It's like watching paint dry.
@thelogfather5002 Жыл бұрын
First of all, I didn’t buy this mill, I built it. And because I built it- I actually got to watch the paint dry when I painted it! I made infinitely more from the lumber off of the mill than the minuscule amount of ad revenue I’ll ever make in a lifetime of the video. Thanks for watching and thanks for the support! Jeff.
