Great video. I hadn`t decided which make of Iron to purchase but now I have,, defo a weller after watching you dismantle they look to be a good buy.....Thank you

Mine is the older style, and the wires finally broke at the connectors strain relief. I trimmed it back, resoldered it, and it should be good for another 50 years……

Just replaced magnaswitch on my apprentice purchased pu1 from 1974 😂 real triggers broom. Few hints the switch can be heard clicking on and off when the tip is removed and replaced from sleeve. Same using odd magnet. There are no moving switch parts externally moving but under the yellow tape is a loose plastic cover with a pair of brass contacts. I chose to replace as i had a free spare, but not impossible to spray clean. Its sitting here clicking away regulating as they did when new. Will see me out now.

Do you use regular solder to replace components on a iron? Dumb question maybe but it must be running at a solder melting temperature

Yes, just regular solder, those wires do not get hot.
