The official music video for our classic track, Wellerman! Originally released in 2018, we've been wanting to film a video for this for over a year!! Filmed on the beautiful Moonfleet ship in Portland by a fantastic crew and team from Bristol.

It's annoying but if it gets more people into liking other shanties it's no bad thing. You must resist the pull to whine about people liking this because it went viral, that leads to the hipster side. Before you know it you'll find yourself saying things like "you don't really love shanties unless you can sing three others right off the top of your head and you can't include 'Leave Her Johnny'."

@@thecrabmaestro564 true enough, but i have been subject to the attitude of my interest in a thing being scrutinized because of the path i took to it. I enjoy a lot a lot classical music but i started enjoying it because it was in a lot of tom and jerry and loony tunes cartoons when I was a kid. I didn't experience Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata till I heard some of its movements played in Earthworm Jim 2, Mega Man Legends 1&2 exposed me to Bach and Vivaldi. I can appreciate this music as it is but because it was cartoons and video games that exposed me to it some more snobbish types have looked down on me for it. That's the attitude I want to fight against. If someone likes Wellerman just cause it got viral, oh well. But if someone likes it cause it went viral and then they start branching out and listening to other shanties i want to see them supported and encouraged, not met with snobby, gatekeeper attitudes like "oh you only like that cause it got popular". Cause that's just going to push people away and that thought makes me sad. I just want people to be able to express an enjoyment of a thing without having to qualify themselves to others. It's why I like that the longest johns occasionally do cater to folks who found shanties thanks to AC4, they're cool with it and welcoming and I want others to be as easygoing as they are. They're not bothered this song went viral, they have a very "more the merrier" attitude.

@@glenngriffon8032 but I'd disagree that things like loony tunes and tik tok are comparable, one is a carefully curated art form, and one is a sifting pot where the good may not be immediately found in preference of what's "popular". My issue is that things get popular on tik tok because they're funny or entertaining, but the medium entirely supports throwing out old stuff in favour of the new. As soon as the next big song comes around to tik tok they wont even remember this step. My issue is with the attitude of the people on tiktok rather than the fact "it got popular".
