i have a feeling that this grass root resurgence of sea shanties is part of a bigger theme. I feel like the passion for exploration is being fueled again. We have Elon Musk trying to colonize mars and Bezos trying to build commercial space travel. Another theme that can emerge from this is the urge to engage in sea ferrying employment. This would certainly help economies and lower unemployment in a crucial field that goes over looked. We could even see ocean living on a boat become a thing due to rising costs of living in a home! just some thoughts, the come back of sea shanties is fascinating!

I just want to thank The Longest Johns and their community for getting me slowly out of my digital shell. I have always been shy, when it comes to the internet. As far as I know, this is the first public comment on a youtube video. I even participated in this community project and started watching twitch, because of this lovely community. I try one step at a time to get out of my digital shell and take part in activities. I have slowly made myself comfortable with talking in the chat at livestreams and premieres and even on twitch. If I keep going at this pace, I might introduce myself in the discord server any day now. I wish every member of this community the best of luck and I am excited to see this video premiere, maybe a bit nervous, but excited nonetheless. I will be here when the premiere starts and will assist you guys in reaching the next community project, just like the other fantastics songs, I am sure you will bring out.

My mate Declan is in this somewhere and I've set myself a challenge to scour every frame of the song until I've found his face. So far I've been watching it a couple of times a day, every day for 2 weeks, and not found him yet. I won't give up. Edit 1: 2 months later (03/12/21): I have realised I will likely never find him unless he happens to be in the first 90 seconds of the song because past that, the clips of the various singers get too small to really distinguish. I'm still not giving up though, I will find him! Edit 2: As of 12/05/22 I remain unable to locate him. I require a much larger screen to continue my attempts to locate him, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Sorry... You just spawned curiosity... So: Lets say 1 cup of tea per Person, 1 spoon of sugar per cup of tea and 1/2 bottle of Rum for each person. 1 teabag is about 1,75g (and yes, I weight it) 1 spoon full of sugar is 3,5g Lets add 350ml water, I mean what good is all this if you can't use it eh? Calculating with 6.000 people that would add up to: 10,5 kg teabags 21,0 kg sugar 2.100 L water 2.100 L Rum (assuming that 1 bottle of rum is the same 0,7 L it is today) So in total 4.231,5kg in total cargo weight. The sugar & tea is negligible 31,5kg isn't much. The 4.200L of fluid can be carried in about 26,4 barrels (1 barrel beeing 159L). Now: The Weller brothers had a ship, the Lucy Ann. In November of 1833 the Lucy Ann returned to Sydney Harbour with 130 tons of right wale oil... I coudn't find any density for right whale oil so lets just assume 130 tons (130.000kg) is the maximum cargoload of the Lucy Ann. Remember: 4.231,5 kg (4,2315 tons) can support 6.000 people with sugar, tea & rum. The Lucy Ann could support 91.682,5 people with sugar, tea & rum. To put that in perspective: The Isle of Man had a population of aprox. 77.000 people in the year 2000. It's just an assumption, not accounting for the actual space in the ship but it shows clearly that yes, the Wellerman could easily support the whole crew here with sugar, tea & rum. I don't know about you but I think that's beautiful.
