In case you forgot who you are and why you're here: I was hoping we'd make real progress - But it seems we have lost the power Any tiny step of advancement Is like a raindrop falling into the ocean - We're running on the spot - always have - always will? We're just the next generation of the emotionally crippled. Though we keep piling up the building blocks The structure never seems to get any higher Because we keep kicking out the foundations And stand useless while our lives fall down. I believe in life - and I believe in love But the world in which I live in - keeps trying to prove me wrong. Out in the pastures we call society You can't see further than the bottom of your glass Only young but easily shocked You get all violent when the boat gets rocked - Just like sheep - little lambs into the slaughter Don't fully grasp what exactly is wrong - Truth is you never cared - still - You get all violent when the boat gets rocked - Intelligence should be our first weapon And stop reveling in rejection And follow yourselves, not some ageing drain brain Whose quite content to go on feeding you garbage We're running on the spot - always have - always will? We're just the next generation of the emotionally crippled. The WORDS of this man.......Shut up and Listen!

Always found the lyrics to Running On The Spot fantastically exciting. Twinned with the melody, the desperation in the lyric is spin tingling. I've got to say, this version is a little slow for my taste, and Start! Sounds half hearted also. But, what the hell?
@jasongabb16719 жыл бұрын
Went to NYC in July 2013 to see him for this tour. Amazing concert, the Americans loved it. Still head and shoulders above most musicians today. Still can't get excited about Coldplay or U2, just find them so dour. Would have been so easy for PW to just go back to The Jam, tour every 5 years and and make loads of £. He hasn't and still strives to push and challenge himself. Interesting that Bono never had the talent or balls to go solo....
@racolucci18 жыл бұрын
it's not that Bono lacks the balls to go solo; The Jam & U2 are apples & oranges different.....The Jam, unlike U2, were NOT schoolboy mates. PW split up the Jam at its peak for purely individual reasons - he needed to explore his own creative urges at The Jam's expense, and was afraid of The Jam never progressing. OTOH, U2 realized they were only as good as the sum of their parts - even Bono, he of the huge ego but a clear frontman.
@jasongabb16718 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, thanks for your reply. Firstly Steve Brooks the original Jam memeber, as they were a 'four piece' was PW's best school friend. The reason for splitting the Jam was only PW's decision, no one else. I can't think of many other groups that have done that at their peak? He was never afraid of the Jam progressing, he just wanted to try other things as you mentioned, he was only 24. Surely you must agree that U2 have been past their sell by date for quite some time? Can i reccomend you watch 'About The Young Idea' Jam documentary that came out last year, i think you would enjoy it... Thanks Jason.

Honestly, I'm sort of partial to what you say. I mean I saw Weller in Hollywood back in 2008, and having not followed his career throughout the years. I heard a considerable difference in the way he now sings to the way he once did, but in all fairness, Morrissey doesn't sound the same either, albeit still familiar. I mean, what Jam/Weller fan wouldn't want to hear him say "It's not important foh' you to know moi naim" instead of "It's not impotunt for you to know my name." Ha. Ha.
@blackmore44 жыл бұрын
I think his abandoning his own speaking accent when he sings was his biggest artistic mistake. The power of the brilliant All Mod Cons, Setting Sons and Sound Affects music and lyrics was given even more bite because of the honesty in the vocals. Now, I genuinely believe that he's so used to singing in his fake American drawl that he's actually incapable of singing in his proper accent anymore. When he does a Jam song now, it sounds like John flipping Wayne singing The Jam :)
@LordHeath19726 жыл бұрын
As a big Jam fan, I'll say it is great to see him performing Jam songs........ problem is, he can't sing them anymore with the same passion and energy as when he first recorded them. The voice is just not there. For that reason, a Jam reunion would just not work.

the problem is not the passion it's the belief, Weller's passion came from his frustration with the world and the truth is he stopped caring a long time ago or more to the point stopped looking for solutions. he never really got over the fact that he wasn't able to change the world and get rid of Maggie in the mid 80's. the positive s though are that he influenced so amy people who are making a difference now right across the spectrum from politics to music and everything in between
