I saw an Aussie documentary a few years ago that tried to document how dangerous Cruise Ship Vacations really are. There were many untold stories about ship employees raping women passengers. Because many of these victims were Drunk due to nonstop partying onboard, it's questionable how many of them even realized that they had been raped.

What’s terrifying about this is that even now, with all our technology and tracking abilities, people who fall overboard from cruise ships are rarely recovered. Also, his whole defence was ridiculous. I know people do idiotic things in moments of panic, but if she’d died of natural causes he’d have had no reason to dispose of her body. Even if he feared for his job, he could have just as easily dressed and placed her in bed, and made it seem she’d died in her sleep due to her weakened heart. Throwing out the porthole proved her body had evidence of his attack on it. Though I love the irony that his cause of death was heart-related.

All the technology we could possibly summon wouldn't make much easier about finding a tiny speck in something as vast as the ocean with all the currents and swells, even out in the middle of it. Perhaps if you land in some part of the doldrums, a fairly sizeable chunk in the Atlantic, during relative calm, it would get easier... BUT that's kind of cheating. I'd love to suggest everyone going on a cruise just get a personal signalling device that could be readily tracked, but it's just not feasible... at least, not yet. ;o)

They could issue trackers to every passenger with a beacon that would activate if it gets into the water. With todays technology it could be made the size of a wrist band. Like on all-inclusive resorts, people don’t mind wearing the bracelet for their stay.

Over the years, I've seen many cases of someone falling overboard from a cruise liner. Although many surviving family members make a big fuss about it, Reality is that the victim was likely Drunk when they went overboard. Their drunken state, along with the fact that they didn't have "sea legs", and the fact that exterior walkways are so narrow on cruise ships is a perfect recipe for falling overboard. Cruise Lines have often been criticized of "hiding the truth" about their loved one's alleged criminal demise, but the truth is that most of these overboard disappearance are inadvertently caused by the victim themselves. Dreaming of a Cruise Vacation is a far cry from the reality of what it's like to be on a swaying cruise ship many miles out to sea. It's a shame that surviving family is always looking for Someone Else to Blame for their loved one's death rather than looking at the victim themselves.

@@PatricioGarcia1973 You are absolutely correct. I would like to go one step further: why would we be passive about our own safety or about making sure our loved ones are informed about our whereabouts if the worst should happen? We are all free to buy a tracker and put it on something we always have with us - glasses, watch, phone, wallet, etc. - and make sure the data required to track it are shared both with a loved one and someone on the ship's crew.

Considering his history after his jail time he honestly makes himself look even more guilty. His conduct prior to the incident with Gay also doesn’t help him out very much either. I can’t help but see him as a predator when it comes to women and young girls. Considering Gays heart condition I can’t help but feel that she died during his attack on her and it scared him so he tried to get rid of her body before anyone found her in that state. I don’t really see him as innocent in any way here. His history of that type of violence against women and young girls shows a much different side to all of this. I do believe he attacked her just as he had done with multiple other women who testified against him. It’s a shame he didn’t stay in jail afterwards. It might have kept his other attacks from happening. Take care everyone 👋🏻

The brutal truth is that men are usually much stronger than we are and the difference is often insurmountable. So...I think we females should all have self defense training...a good, fight dirty street smart course. One might still lose...one might still even lose their life in the end...but you can make it crystal clear that your attacker had been in a Hell of a fight and your marks and the damage you did might just get him caught.

Well told story! There's a possibility she might have fainted. If her lips turned blue he could've panicked thinking she was dead... I do hope she was no longer alive when she was thrown into the water. Judging by this guy's history and the scratches on his body, it's clear he was a predator. Definitely guilty... Just a question of to what degree: Assault, murder, manslaughter, and or concealment of death.
@gnarthdarkanen7464
@gnarthdarkanen7464 Жыл бұрын
Cardiac issues such as described can be dubious and damn difficult to treat. Even today, doctors can have trouble finding a sign of life, and if her heart was failing to a degree of blue lips and fainting, it's extremely likely that while she had NOT necessarily died outright, it was another "seizure" that made it much quieter than normal... He was NOT a doctor and certainly not appropriately equipped to make a prognosis... SO considering his conduct BOTH before and after, I'm going to have to lean heavily on "He probably murdered the poor girl." AND however likely it might be that she had expired during the rigorous activities of sex, it's EQUALLY likely she was only having a fainting spell and was actually alive when he chucked her unceremoniously into the water to drown, freezing... if the shock didn't kill her, of course... or a shark. AND defense of a monster that would prey upon children is absolutely despicable... just for the record. ;o)
@RubyBlueUwU
@RubyBlueUwU Жыл бұрын
Considering his record, I think it’s most likely he was in the midst of assaulting her and she had one of her spells/seizures and that’s why he did what he did, I don’t believe that if what they were doing was really consensual there’d be any reason to try and get rid of the “body’ (you’re correct, it’s very unlikely she was dead and he was nowhere near qualified to make that call) obviously it was taboo at the time to be doing what they were doing, but he’d clearly never been shy about his escapades before, so why would he be now? I think she had signs of a struggle on her that he wanted to hide, otherwise I don’t believe he would’ve bothered with the cover up and would’ve either called for help or just left her there. I just hope she didn’t experience too much suffering during the ordeal…what a disgusting man he was.
@gnarthdarkanen7464
@gnarthdarkanen7464 Жыл бұрын
@@RubyBlueUwU Well, if you've ever jumped into a backyard pool that was filled the same day, you know something about the shear shock of your warm (hot?) body hitting icy cold water... Consider a heart condition conducive to fainting spells and weak heart beat... AND multiply the shock by something between 10 and 100 or so... AND it's fairly likely that cold shock without her medication killed her almost immediately... (We CAN hope... right?) AND you've likely hit that nail... In that day, we already know how frequently women complaining of assault would get dismissed out of hand... SO he must've left some pretty egregious evidence on her, and probably "KNEW" (whether true or not) he had to get rid of her... The truth, unless there was something truly gnarly about it, was he'd lose a job and go on to find another one "business as relatively usual" if he'd simply alerted others to get help... whether or not she died anyway... ;o)

Murder, obviously! I think he did, in fact, kill her. Just because she flirted with him didn't mean she wanted to sleep with him. And if he came off as aggressive she would have quickly said woah wait a minute sir stop it. Based on his record in the years after the incident, I fully believe he used and abused women AND children (11 and 13 year olds?! Thanks for another fascinating mystery. This story struck me as being very similar to a “lost overboard” whodunit some 10 years earlier. In 1937, the roles were reversed and it was a famous male actor called Frank Vosper, who mysteriously plunged to his death from the state room veranda of Miss Muriel Oxford - a Miss Great Britain beauty queen, model, and aspiring actress (and my mother’s cousin). Press Speculation was rife with rumours such as, Muriel had turned down Frank’s marriage proposal, and in a fit of despair he had thrown himself into the English Channel. Frank Vosper was a well-known homosexual, so this seems very unlikely. The fact that Frank was gay was of course not reported in the newspapers, as at the time, this was a criminal offence. Was his death; suicide, accident or was he assisted into the hereafter?

Dear MrBrodie, It's entirely possible she was awakened by landing in the water! How awful. The charges ought to have included something related to him being a representative of the ship...breach of a trusted position or some such. Thank you always!

It doesn't matter how big someone is, do you have any idea how hard it is for a human body alive let alone dead to fit through a port hole? He has to be one hell of a bastard.

Purely for the sake of argument. Even if she had died in the way he claimed, he should have been put in prison for life for desecrating the body by throwing it overboard. That Point/Fact alone is undeniable. You don't get to throw a body overboard for any reason and not face life in prison in my opinion.

People are surprisingly heavy in my experience and portholes are shoulder height. Stuffing a person out of a porthole would be pretty strenuous. Not beyond a fit man's abilities though.

it's a shame that Ruth Davis didn't get her sentence commuted as well = a later case of murder and obviously there was talk of eliminating the death penalty. Also that young chap put to death for the Rillington Place murders.

Have I got the timing wrong or did he know he'd been seen in her room by the other steward before she died?

I've heard it said that not all narcissists are womanizers but almost all womanizers are narcissists. Camb definitely fits the statement but also took it to the point of violence; as evidenced by previous females before Gibson. Seems like his ego was damaged during the encounter and induced rage, maybe there was sex or not, but in any case attacking and killing her.

Well, I never heard this case before but what a murky one it was. Nice video putting together what little info there was but my vote is he was guilty.

I'm thinking that because of the scratches on his arms and the fact that both buttons were pushed that he. was guilty. He followed her to her cabin and invited himself in. He tried to seduce her but, she resisted and he forced himself on her, she fought him (hence the scratches) as he continued to strangle her, she reached out and pushed both buttons to summon help. When the steward on duty knocked, and James answered the door, she was already dead and then he pushed her through the port-hole. She was wearing the pajamas and not the nightgown he said as she never owned one like it.

On a side note - there was a rumour she was returning to England to find Sid James (carry on star) as she was his jilted lover. There’s a huge division in James’ biographers as to if this is true or not

Today, most ships are registered in Liberia. In case of murder, you can't even get them to investigate and all the corporation wants to do is cover it up.
