Wellington is a city we’ve grown very fond of through our two visits. The amount of people who are out and about on a Monday afternoon/ evening enjoying a drink or a meal at a cafe/ bar is just so surprising and we’ve found it has such a lively energy. We’ll be back to watch some Women’s Rugby so maybe we will see you there!
Hit up beervana.co.nz/ for tickets and more information for Beervana 2024.
Thank you so much for watching 🙂

I. Love. Wellington! Can't stand Auckland or Christchurch (too flat). I love Dunedin, but I wish I stayed in Wellington when I lived there 20-odd years ago. Still always feel at home in Wellington ❤ Discovered sour beers in Wellington, and I keep looking for that hit! Wellington was my Quebecois first experience of NZ, so will forever be special ❤

Really pleased you two found time to explore Wellington some more. I've visited and stayed there so many times and yet I've never felt bored, I almost always discover a cool new place or a lookout I haven't been to before. The last time I was down there for a day (about three months ago) amongst other things I took one of the double decker buses to the Island Bay shops then walked up an alleyway and along a few streets down to the bay, that was the first time I'd walked along those streets since I was around 12 (I'm now 34), it was really nice. I then sat on the seawall for nearly an hour watching the waves, divers in the water, a few dogs playing in the water, and load of different birds searching for food around the island, it was really calming and peaceful. I'd had a difficult few weeks so it was just what I needed. As you're discovering there is a lot to see and do in Wellington alone, but in the outer city and in the surrounding areas there are so many more places to see and things to do. Days Bay has a great ice-cream shop, if you go down the road some more through Eastbourne there is a walk down to two lighthouses, if you go to the upper one the view is great but also once you get to the top of the track down the left side of the ridge is a swamp with (if I'm remembering rightly) a little lagoon that is criss-crossed by a couple of paths. When I went there I couldn't believe that a place so isolated looking was so close to the city. Along with those places there is a bunch of cool little villages, Paekākāriki being the most interesting and scenic by a mile. It's got a few cool little cafes, the one hotel has its own bar and restaurant, the beach is a 2min walk up a slight hill, there is a couple of bench seats above the beach if you just want take in the view, there are a few walks of varying lengths at either end of the village, Wellington is 45mins away by train, there is also that fish&chip shop that I mentioned awhile ago at Plimmerton that do IMO really good crumbed fish and BEER BATTER chips (that place is 15mins away from Paekākāriki by train and a 5min walk), and getting back to Paekākāriki there is also a small museum inside the railway station, and just down the road there is the base of Steam Incorporated who regularly operate excursions pulled by steam or diesel loco's around the country. If some of the volunteers are on site on their workdays (usually Thursdays & Saturdays) one of them will take you for a tour around their depot. There is a lot to see there. The only issue with where they're located is unfortunately you can't walk there from the station or the cafe/hotel area. In fact speaking of excursions there is one coming up that sounds like it could be right up your alley. In early November they're running an excursion pulled by a steam loco and a diesel loco up through my area to Palmerston North, then through the Manawatu Gorge to eventually Mangatinoka where you'll then walk to the old Tui Brewery where for $45 you can enjoy a classic kiwi BBQ feed - consisting of glazed chicken wings, marinated steaks, gourmet potatoes, coleslaw and dinner rolls and of course a beverage. Alternatively you could travel as far as Woodville and spend some time looking at the various market stalls that will be there on the day, and as us kiwis say grab a feed from the cheesecake factory shop. Anyway if you're both interested about maybe going on that excursion it is on Sunday the 5th of November, tickets are $129 each if you'll be jumping on at one of the stations before Palmerston North. It is a day trip so you'll get to see a lot of the country. If you two are still keen to go and you'll be in Wellington or up the Kapiti Coast around that time let me know, I'll find the contact details of Steam Incorporated so you'll be able to book. Sorry about the wall of text haha.

Part of the reason Wellington, my home city, is so windy, is due to the geography of the area. There's a good few mountain ranges that circle the lower half of the north island and around the harbor, and since air pressure goes from high to low, this means more air currents are funneled through and down over the mountains and onto the city.

I'm so happy you found Te Papa and spent so much time there. It's indeed nothing like the pretentious galleries of snoozy culture and antiquated temples of stolen heritage that most people are used to. It always disappoints me how many travel videos I watch where people just skip over Wellington entirely as a mere stepping stone onto or off the ferry. And while, as a resident, even I must admit that there are a relatively limited amount of tourist eyecandy around (Wellington focuses its efforts more on hosting world-class art and cultural events than providing regular attractions), Te Papa is the gem in the city's crown and ought to be an essential stop on any tourist itinerary even and especially if there are kids onboard. The city's events scene also makes it one of the more exciting places to live as there's always something new and exciting around the corner, and its central location within NZ makes it relatively easy and convenient to travel anywhere else in the country whether it's for tourist attractions or countryside exploration. The same traits that make it a short stopover for tourists also make it an amazing place to settle down in for anyone moving to New Zealand, with all the culture and amenities of a capital city but without any of overwhelming size and crowded venues of a big city like Auckland. If you ever thought about moving to New Zealand (we'd love some more Canadians, as they're basically our soul sisters), Wellington definitely deserves top consideration for where you should settle... if you can find an affordable house. 😅

Wow you couldn’t have said it better! We had one night in Wellington before we took the ferry and thought, “This is a pretty cool and unique city, we are gonna have to come back” And now we’ve been back twice because we love it so much! I understand it’s not the most affordable place to live but as a person who likes to live in a city, it would be at the top of my list here in New Zealand. Thank you for the very insightful and welcoming comment! 😃🍻

This video is so great Donovan ❤ I do have a couple questions: 1. (0:45) How long do you usually do a Timelapse to get enough for content? 2. (4:13) Is there a “type” of beer that stands out from Canadian breweries? 3. (8:14) Once you knew the program, was this an easy transition or still a complex transition? 4. (10:40) Does seeing this LOTR set ever make you think of getting into film professionally? Or spark anything like that in you? You are so passionate for it it could be something to think about Love, TBK
@donovankelly12
@donovankelly12 10 ай бұрын
Thanks, Troy! Appreciate it. Hopefully this helps: 1. If it’s people in an airport I set my camera to 1 frame per second so I will get one second of Timelapse every 24 secs it’s on (usually 4-5 min is enough but I usually go 7-10 if I want to speed it up) cloud Timelapse’s take about 10-15min and for Milky Way galaxy Timelapse’s the longest I’ve gone is 4 hours but the longer the better. 2. The amount and variety of low abv beers do stand out to me (Not that I drink them a lot) but it’s pretty cool! 3. It’s really simple! 4. Very interesting question, kind of yes, kind of no. I’ll stick with KZbin for the time being and see where that takes me!
