Leeds City Council demolished the Wellington Road footbridge over a Saturday night and Sunday 27 - 29 July 2024.
The demolition of the new bridge was completed and fully re-opened six hours earlier than scheduled.
The removal of the Wellington Road footbridge over the Armley Gyratory marks the final footbridge around the Gyratory to be replaced with new footbridges with more accessible footways.
Built in the early 1970’s the old footbridges will be replaced with a new footbridge to include more accessible ramps to better meet the needs of non-motorised users and people with disabilities. All the new upgraded footbridges are designed to ensure they will need less maintenance work and inspection, over future decades.
