This guy is amazing. I learned so much! I have been taking Sertraline (50mg/day in morning) since last summer, and started Amitriptyline (25mg/day at night) about a week ago. My sleep has been great, and NO migraine headaches!!! Which is why it was prescribed. I am definitely lethargic the next day, but it isn't bad. I already have low blood pressure to begin with, and it has exacerbated that, but I'm already used to dealing with it, so I can be prepared. I no longer have allergies either! So for me, so far, the side effects haven't deterred me. I remember I did have some side effects when I first began Zoloft, but they eventually went away. So I am thinking they will eventually go away from Amitriptyline too. It has been a game changer for me!

Last year I developed panic attacks and insomnia for the first time in my life (I was 35). It became so bad, I would get a panic attack every time I would lie down. Nothing worked; zoplicone, Zoloft, lexapro, mirtazapine, lorazepam, clonazepam, trazadone, seroquel, olanzapine, Effexor, then along came Amitriptyline. Anxiety gone. Panic attacks gone. Insomnia gone. It was the only thing that worked. I take 30mgs at night, and will probably do so long term. If you are suffering from anxiety and insomnia, I would say at least look into Amitriptyline. A lot of doctors were hesitant to prescribe it because of the side effect profile; I met an psychiatrist at the hospital and she said “sure, let’s try it. I’ve been fighting some mystery nerve and autoimmune illness for about 10 yrs. A neurologist decided to try this last week as a last ditch effort. Took it for the first time last night. This morning I woke up ok-ish. I expected grogginess after trying gabapentin (sp?) and other drugs, but after being awake a while, I am getting dizzy and when I lay down there’s a throbbing head ache. What’s sad is that my neck, face and shoulders don’t hurt as much. There’s a numbness there and it feels so nice… It’s so sad when you have to choose between life’s pain and sideffects. I have 2 young kids. I can push through pain by now but it’s hard to push through side effects.

I've been using/testing Amitriptyline for about 6 years now. Just one small dose (20mg) before bed to treat chronic foot and ankle pain. Its paired with Gabapentin for adequate pain relief and both are essential for results. I find that 20mg before bed will "zombify" me the entire next day. What that means is that I'll never feel fully awake or clear-minded. It makes me a very boring person socially with nothing to say. Just puts me on auto-pilot. For this reason, I don't take the Amitriptyline on nights before days off because I want to feel alive on my free days. It works. Most people take higher doses to treat an entirely different condition (depression). I think my brain would explode at those higher doses. Some days I feel like I blew up my brain with just 20mg the night before. BUT everyone is different so maybe that's just me. Either way, I've tested these things out personally and this is the data I've collected based on my experience over the years. I'm 32 years old now.

@@lisad4854 I wouldn't. Watch "The History of Psychiatry" or listen to Dr Peter Breggin about the harm these drugs cause. And when you Google the drug be sure not to look under sponsored by or any other way psych drugs are promoted. Look under horror stories for what actual ppl have been and gone through. It's not good. I think our government wants us on these drugs. I don't like it but you have to make your own choice. I can tell you I am not depressed but each and every single visit to the Dr I am offered a psych drug. I'm so tired of it. I told my Dr I will never take them and he still offers them. I have lists.... Also these drugs are re-labeled black box. So many names. Be careful and vigilant because even if they say these drugs are not addictive they usually are and they often cause brain damage. You have to study deep to find the true meaning of these drugs. Now you tell me who's crazy because I could never hurt another with these drugs. I take Xanax. For 30 years now. I wish I'd never started but when I was young we weren't told or had any real way of knowing the side effects. At one time I was given 6 Xanax 1 mg and 600 mgs seroquel for sleep. I lost years of my life. My health and my children seeing me in such a drunken state daily. A pancreas attack. GB removal. My health has been ruined by these drugs. Been researching for so many years. I advocate against these drugs but I leave the choice to others except babies, children and teenagers. These groups are all targeted.

I am on this for depression and sleep problems and I just hate taking it. It was too heavy for me and i could not wake up in the mornings. I am extra tired and it causes such vivid dreams i wake up with my heart racing. I also have to take it very slow when i wake up because I would wake up drowsy and feel dizzy. If anything it makes me feel terrible overall. Doc told me to halve it but it still makes me feel messed up. Depending on your health it might cause too many symptoms in some people.

A lot of Drs don’t check our vitamin d levels or our b12. I found out late in life to take d3 2000 mg a day I take b12 and magnesium. Magnesium as well as vitamin d does so many things for us. D helps with our well being/depression, magnesium is depleted if people are on acid reflux meds. But also magnesium does so many things for us. I started taking it to help sleep. Turmeric curcumim is good for inflammation but it also helped me with my blood pressure. Anyway good luck. I take amptitryptiline too.

@@NirajPoudyal hi, i dont know your age but, if you are under age 65 (and also aged above 18), from the leaflet: "The usual dose of amitriptyline for depression in adults is 50mg to 100mg a day". 10mg is way too low, i dont see how that would help, apart from placebo effect. i think low doses like that are either used for older people eg. aged 70+, or if using amitriptyline for something else such as a pain medication. so if u want to see if amitriptyline works for you on depression and anxiety, you will need to go up to the correct dose range. i did start out with around 20mg and then 40mg.. that didnt do anything. 50mg started to feel like it was working but still not enough, so then for me 75mg was perfect to successfully treat my depression and anxiety. sadly i am no longer taking it as it caused me tachycardia. this is a common side effect unfortunately. so i ended up needing to switch to something else, so now im taking vortioxetine 15mg. its too early for me to know if vortioxetine will be good enough for me, but so far its ok; im feeling ok so hopefully it will stay that way. wishing you luck

I took it years ago for 5 years and getting off then was a little hard...mostly nausea, dizziness, motion sickness, head pressure, eye pressure but it was all mild. Now it would be awful! I've read of people recently getting off it and one going through a taper right now and it's been hard for her. I just say take it super slow!! How many mgs are u on? I found out a supplement I was taking was actually increasing the levels of my Amitriptyline and it was giving me the QT...I stopped that supp and I no longer have QT...just some Tachycardia every now and then. Just know that Ami is notorious for causing these kinda heart conduction issues. I would definitely consider trying to get off slowly and if u need help reach out to SurvivingAntidepressants.org. to do a slow taper down. I think I'm trapped on it till I get done with TMJ treatment which will be a few years.

@@LarryKippings you are on a low dose..u may do just fine....best rule is to do 5% to 10% reduction per month. If I ever taper it will be 1 mg a month. And once you get lower you have to go slower...just go by how your body feels and keep a journal.
