I almost dropped out of college because of panic attacks. I got panic attacks if I had to give a presentation, or just reading in front of people. It was a big problem for me, and I got treatment eventually but it was a big problem in my life, and altered the trajectory of my life. Thank you for covering this often overlooked, and dismissed condition.

@@danrothman6129 Eventually, I was at a very low point, and I walked into an ER and said I'm having suicidal thoughts. Got sent to a psychiatric hospital which was the best learning opportunity. Was there for about a week and saw a psychiatrist, went on meds. I wish I was put on meds when I was a teenager, not in my late 20s. Anyways, I've gotten better and now on a low dose anti-depressant.

Risk factors👍 Family history of panic attacks or panic disorder. Major life stress, such as the death or serious illness of a loved one. If you live with a person who suffers panic attacks it is easy to recognize that it’s a panic attack. They can mimic a heart attack and can be terrifying for the patient as well as the caregiver.
@clover7359
@clover7359 2 жыл бұрын
I've had 5 distinct "panic attacks" in my life, and the first one came on without any provocation of any sort whatsoever; I was simply lounging in an office about to break for lunch and suddenly my breathing rate increased, then my heart rate increased, then I started shaking, then I started sweating, and it wasn't cooling down on it's own. It was scary at first as I didn't know what was happening but afterward I realized it was a panic attack and I tried finding ways of dealing with them. More would come, but they would get more spread out and less severe until they fizzled out into sparse episodes of chaotic breathing that can be dealt with in under 30 seconds.

Love your videos! Why don't you talk about vagus nerve irritation and damage as a cause for anxiety? A slightly elongated styloid from a common whiplash injury or a craniocervical instability from excessive cell phone or laptop use can cause anxiety as well as all of the other comorbidities you mentioned. Anxiety is a symptom not a cause for anything. For example, anxiety has at least as many neurogenic pathways as pain and nausea because all forms of pain and nausea cause an anxiety response.

My attacks came as nocturnal panic attacks. My first one was during a nightmare. I woke up with a fast heart rate. I then got up from bed and walked outside so I would keep myself from fainting (the cold air helped). I felt weak and got chills. I got a few more of these nocturnal attacks and was very random. This was the start of my path to hell by now fearing to go to sleep at night in fear of the attack happening again. It started to compound now in my daytime with worry and fear and jumping to loud noises. It was horrible. My PC doctor gave me Xanax at first and I worried about addiction happening so I asked her to put me on another medication for anxiety. She put me on Paxil and I’ve been on it for 3 months now. It made all my symptoms disappear. The only side effect so far is gut and diarrhea issues. I don’t think this is a fair lifestyle change to have to live with. I just went on the extended release at a 12.5mg from a 20mg. I’m hoping this will help. If not, I’m going to wean off of this and look for other options. BTW, I have some dizziness on occasion and wonder if this is related.

I was suffering from panic attacks many years ago, my doctor put me on Prozac and it made me 10 times worse! It made my panic attack so bad, that I had literally convinced myself I was becoming a paranoid schizophrenic. It was a horrible time in my life, I personally would not ever want to be on Prozac ever again. Luckily, that part of my life is long behind me, and I don't need to be medicated for anxiety or panic attacks anymore, and I have learned to have mind over matter when I start to get one.

Hey Doc I love love your channel, I have so many questions but based on this topic, how does Generalised anxiety disorder differ from just a panic attack disorder anxiety disorder acrophobia social phobia cause I have generalised anxiety disorder but I have all of those disorders as well isn't that kind of incompassing all Anxieties in general , Cause every time I've done research those condemned to the same conclusion, some people have Generalising anxiety disorder as a diagnosable but they don't suffer from certain amount of anxieties only specifics but I know a follow people like me for example who has every single anxiety phobia there is but it's jist in compass as generalised anxiety Cause it's generally everything. I could be totally wrong, Which is why I want to ask you? The lot of doctors have a lot of different opinions on the same medication and he gets confusing in my own research said something different, Also how do pharmaceutical company able to get medication out like say gabapentin when they don't fully understand it but they know what it can treat? Doesn't reach the liability of that 1% possibility so in dying from that uncertainty?

Thanks for the video. I tick every box, except that I don't panic about much of anything, don't really have fears, I do get highly excited about things though. The chest pain has been here for over a month now which makes me think it is not panic. I had no idea how many pathways of possible causes these symptoms can be attributed to, for instance, the gut information was something I'd never heard of. All I know is Carisoprodol and Valium seem to stop it dead in it's tracks, although I just take one 10mg Amitryptaline and a 350g Carisoprodol before bed and have Valium, but don't take the Valium unless the chest pain symptoms get extremely bad. What is your opinion or anyones opinion in managing anxiety/panic attacks when you have bipolar1. Its so f n debilitating . I cant even keep jobs cause I freak out and have attacks and my own panic and brain eats itself . I hate it and I just want to get better and live a semi normal life.

If you can. Go for a jog. An keep doing it for a long time. It releases feel good chemicals in your brain an body. It can help you to feel more relaxed over time. Cardio exprsizes work for anxiety. Or do a bunch of jumping Jack's. Anything that gets your blood flow going. Do that for like 6 months an I gurantee you'll feel better. I'm speaking from experience. I've siffere from severe anxiety for half my life an exprsizing really helps. You just gotta stick with it. Put it this way. I've faken several diffrent phyciatric drugs. An tried several diffrent supplements for anxiety. An none of them work nearly as good as exorsizing does. Sometimes anxiety Is just pent up energy that needs released. An exprsize doesejt come with thousand diffrent side effects.

If you are ADHD then stimulates actually calm you down. Caffeine, Adderall, cocaine, even down to marijuana (must be 100% sativa) will calm you down & relax you. While the opposite applies with downers. The typical "relaxers" will actually heighten your anxiety.

@@KEire1916 Sounds like you are allergic or your body has reacted badly to this type of antibiotic. Many people are very sensitive to this "Drug Class". (Fluorquinolone's) See 2018 FDA Box Warning. If you have stopped this and your still having the problems described in your other comment, I'd say your body can't tolerate this Drug and you're experiencing the worst of the side effects from it. I'd contact your Doctor, but beware that He/She may not recognize or admit that the Drug caused your symptom. I'd say it's very likely. I know a Woman personally who had a horrible reaction to Cipro and 3 yrs later, is still not better. I pray you get this resolved. I would recommend you go to the FDA Website and report your side effects from this Medication. I'd make sure your never prescribed this Class of Medication again. Hope you feel better soon. 🙏

How many of you actually have akathisia from an antibiotic or trying an antidepressant or…. I thought I had “panic attacks” and it wasn’t until I was hurt (worse) by a benzodiazepine and left with chronic akathisia and dystonia did I realize how I was neurologically hurt from 4 weeks of an SSRI when I was a teen. It ALL hit me. I thought Prozac was HORRIBLE. I wrote it down as an “allergy” my entire life at pharmacies not realizing SSRIs/SNRIs and basically ALL psychotropics neurologically injure on some level. These aren’t “side effects” these are toxic, potentially permanent ones. Lower level dopamine injuries like anhedonia or inner akathisia/inner agitation are COMMON. Don’t let the industry fool you and allow you to get made one notch worse. Benzodiazepine Induced Neurological Disorder and other tapering injuries are very real. Benzodiazepines should never be taken daily and not used for anxiety unless it’s VERY episodic. 3X per month. Find me or look for the Benzodiazepine Information Coalition online or on Twitter. Don’t fear seizure or death, fear things you have to live with like akathisia.

I have GAD and panic disorder. I'm on 15mg of Buspar 3 x a day and prescribed 2 mg of Xanax a day as needed for this. The Buspar has helped greatly, and the xanax works well to take if I know I'm going into a situation that might trigger an attack (work meeting, speech, interview, party, etc). I do not take the xanax everyday, though, because of how highly addictive it is. It's a very effective, but dangerous, medication.
