Last year, I moved 900 miles south to take care of my elderly parents, both 90 years old, living on fast food since my mama was diagnosed with dementia in 2020. I asked them to try three - just THREE - WFPB meals a week. Today, my dad’s cardiologist took him OFF his high blood pressure meds and asked what he was going differently! I season their meals with WYW blends and they love it!!! Thank you for giving me more time with my Mama and Daddy!! ❤❤❤

I have been guilty of this overcomplicating and I found it de-motivating because it seemed too hard. I now make basic, plain meals: rice or potatoes with veggies and beans or a soup. A good sauce either home made or store bought can work wonders. So stress reducing. Thank you for this video.

💯%. My BF wants to make fancy foods when I just want rice, tofu and veggies with sauce. Simple and easy foods I can prep. I have a long day with 10 hour work days and then a few hours to go to the gym and workout. Last thing I want to do is have an overcomplicated meal when I get home.

I typed in “wfpb if you're struggling” and I found this video. I’ve been doing wfpb for a week and didn’t think I’d be able to keep it up. Thank you SO much for this video. I completely agree with everything you’re saying!!! Felt I had to be freaking perfect, cook elaborate meals and everything. I just want to EAT, food has never been my thing, I have better stuff to do. I felt like it was literally taking over my life and I had to become a food-lover and be a freaking chef. I’m buying your freaking book if you have one! Thank you again for making this video. My resolve was crumbling. I just want to feel better and eat healthier.

Being in Dr McDougall’s camp is what brought me to your channel for what to eat inspiration. I absolutely love Dillon’s freestyle cooking. Back when i was eating meat, i was super gourmet in my cooking but led me to cancer. When i heard dr McDougall said just eat starch, veggies & fruit, i went “halleluyah, i can finally eat”. There were times i’m just too lazy to cook or eat to the point that i just eat steamed potatoes alternating it with sweet potato or cassava for 2 months straight. Sometimes it’s not being lazy to cook but rather too lazy to think of what to cook. Eating whole plant food simply makes life easier.

I’ve been making vegan meals since 2006. Only started getting into wfpb fairly recently. The only fancy gadgets I used FOR YEARS was a $20 black and decker food processor and a nutribullet. I will say I finally purchased a used instapot about 3 years ago and a vitamix about the same time. Those 2 wonderful investment pieces really did take it to another level but I did fine without those items for about 13 years. A good knife and a sharpener goes a long way!

This is an important message for families transitioning plant based. Fill their bellies with healthy food & don't overcomplicate it. That can literally be a microwave pouch of precooked rice with a can of beans over it. Shortcuts are okay. Stress is deadly, so we shouldn't increase stress while trying to eat for health.

This guy is an absolute life saver! I found him when I was struggling to deal with a couple of high blood pressure readings and an overzealous GP insisting on medication. Although I was a keen cook, I found some of the over-complicated and slightly judgmental plant based videos off-putting. Dillon’s irreverent approach was a welcome antidote to that and helped me to adopt this new lifestyle and ultimately return to full health. I can’t say I’m 100% plant-based now but I’ve incorporated a lot of what I learned into a healthy, Mediterranean diet which suits me and my lifestyle. Thank you Dillon for all that you do.

wow, you said exactly what I needed to hear. I am struggling with the food being a party. I am vegan for 5 year now been vegetarian for 15 before that. I recently suffered from Afib and had to be put on anticoagulant and beta blocker because that is what they always do to prevent a stroke. So I am now following dr Esselstyn way of eating with no salt and no oil of any kind ( nuts included) . Of course I also take dr Greger's tips and dr Furhman. I was seriously depressed for the first few weeks but I am now getting used to it. And one of the biggest thing is that, exactly what you said : food is not a party, food is sustenance. You eat because you have to feed your body. A complete mind change. Very difficult for this 62 year old. What helps me is to eat mostly the same meal at night. My soups at lunch time are always different but my suppers are mainly the same. And even there, all three doctors don't agree on everything, no nuts, yes nuts, no seeds, yes seeds, no potatoes, yes potatoes, no tofu, yes tofu. At one point, I think you really have to do what is best for you. To stick with it. Thank you once again Dillon.

@@melissasprayberry5047 Interesting question; my brother recently experienced Afib after returning from a month long vacation. After arriving in the states within 3 days he received a Covid contact notification and was experiencing very light symptoms. He then received an Afib notification from his  WATCH. At the ER they discovered embolisms in his lungs and here he is 5 months later trying to get answers. He is now on the same medications as the person mentioned above, and still not getting clear answers from his cardiologist, in fact, got conflicting answers. Apparently, blood clots can cause Afib and so can the virus. He is completely vaccinated. This turn of health at 70 has been very difficult for him.

I also got a trigger finger on the arm where I got the third vaccine. I was hit hard with the first time I got Covid. And one of my daughter got heart problems as well from the disease. I like what Dr. McDougall says, "Choose a starch, and add vegis." I use some fruit like berries. Love a bowl of grains with blueberries and soy milk, but also love not having to be rigid about having certain things. I often have brown rice, and several kinds of potatoes cooked up and waiting for me in the fridge. I often use frozen. Even when I heat up some combo, I top off with some beans, and greens from the freezer. It helps on those, "don't wanna cook," days. Thanks for the reminder and encouragement. You're a peach!

Best video I've ever seen on this topic. It's actually the easiest, simplest way of living, if you allow it to be. Yes, of course you can go super fancy with it, if you're into that. Do what makes you happy. But there is absolutely no need to do hours of meal prep (I do zero), or to spend hours in the kitchen (again, I take the quickest route possible to mealtime)! Anyone can do this if I can. For Real.

Good thoughts and I agree. I can double down on the McDougall advice of pick a starch and add vegetables. For breakfast I do oats with some frozen berries added for flavour and dinner is usually beans, lentil, or pea soup type of stew. I should probably get more salad like or stir fried with rice sometime. Don't let perfect get in the way of good enough. You could do so much worse than potatoes for dinner.

So true. One of my better investments has been an Insta-pot, actually only paid $39. for Best Buy’s model and I love it! Batch cooking at least for a couple meals, especially when planning to eat potatoes is one of the easiest. Throwing a meal together in less than 15 minutes has been so easy. I do love flavors and spice just about every dish I make, a once boring flavor becomes that much more delicious. Frozen vegetables are a must keep in the freezer so when the fresh runs out you still have veggies. They’re also great for creating quick meals, so easy! And forget about how much cleaner a kitchen is when you don’t have animal fat and matter splashing all over your pots, pans, dishes and sink! Eat for Life 🌟

I absolutely love this video! I do follow many vegan channels here on KZbin, and other platforms, but I am handicapped now, from an injury, so not able to stand in my kitchen for long periods of time. So, I have to cut corners where ever I can. So LOTS of frozen veggies or no-salt added cans. I use fresh, when I can, but we are in Northern Minnesota where most fresh fruits, are SO green and no taste. VERY FEW organic items available. I am doing just fine, it is what works for ME! I agree, 100%!!!

I am VERY much in favor of kitchen short cuts, being someone who really doesn’t enjoy spending inordinate amounts of time in the kitchen & who especially doesn’t like complicated recipes on the regular. Thanks for taking this approach, it is much appreciated.

I love your no nonsense approach to plant based eating. I do a lot of meal prep one afternoon a week and then I don't have to worry about what I'm going to eat the rest of the week. If I've got friends coming over I may do something a bit more complicated but 90% of the time it's simple and still delicious. I dropped my cholesterol from 290 to 220 in 18 months. No statins for me!
@lagarde2011
@lagarde2011 Жыл бұрын
That's a big drop in cholesterol. I went from 290 to about 240 by taking niacin every day but didn't change my sometimes rather crappy diet. Now that I'm back on track with the diet I hope the numbers are closer to 200. Worst part is dealing with the annoying GP who insists that statins are the only way to lower the numbers.
@christinelabozan1256
@christinelabozan1256 Жыл бұрын
@@lagarde2011 I saw a big drop when I started eating vegetarian and then had a further drop when I went vegan. I was prescribed statins many years ago but didn't like the side effects. Other than my cholesterol level, which is hereditary, I didn't have any other issues. My husband's doctor actually told him he couldn't affect his cholesterol level through his diet. I debunked that myth but my husband would rather take a pill than eat healthier.

Great tips! Tough balance between ideal standards and being realistic, and when the top vegan docs differ it makes it challenging- but you made some good points. Perfection is a hard standard to reach. Thanks for sharing : )

Dx with cancer back in March after Mediterranean and non toxic/organic as I could since 2000! Switched to plant based because garbanzo beans we’re keeping my blood sugar steady. (I was always told not to eat the beans because of too many carbs) I feel so much stronger and healthier now 4 months later! I just kept it simple like you are doing and so happy to have found you for some new simple tips. Surgery 4 days ago and only cancer found,contained, was microscopic! I can happily live plant based! ❤

The meals in your cookbooks taste great! I love your "slap that healthy food on your plate" method. I bought a few from other WFPB authors that were so complicated. Then when I made the recipes, they often tasted bland & meh. So, a lot of time & work for subpar tasting meals.

Best advice ~ever~ to make a permanent diet lifestyle change. I can say this after 14 years of on again/ off again/ on again / off again failure and winning at vegan eating. The simple way is the only way that has worked for me. Don't over think or do it, just like Dillon is saying. Perfection is not the goal- improving your health is. Save the fancy for when you have time. -Mylissa

THANK YOU. Louder for the purists in the back! I just found your videos, I wandered in through the recipes and immediately thought "these people get it". If I can't do this on my laziest, most useless or just not-enough-spoons day, then I'm not going to stick with it. If I can't find half a dozen no-brainer meals that I really enjoy, instead of just tolerate, I'm not going to keep up long term. Make it easier on yourself. Life is hard, food doesn't have to be.

This is so important and helpful. Thank you. I've felt for a long time that even the 'simplest' recipes are too complex, especially for people who are ill or exhausted and can barely open a tin of baked beans.

I just love your channel! I have an hereditary bad pancreas and I need to follow a restrictive diet. Finding your channel was a blessing: no animal.protein, low fat, plant-based and SIMPLE TO COOK. Sometimes I cook your recipe and sometimes I just take inspiration from it. I was overwhelmed and you made it simple. I'm also Mexican so enjoy the Mexican inspiration and, when it's nor Mexican but tex-mex, I have tons of fun eating something super tasty. In Europe I don't get all the ingredients, but the imagination develops in the face of restriction. Thank you, once again

I love watching someone speak their mind with passion and exuberance! Simple Tip: You can use your standard oven as an air fryer by simply cooking in the highest possible oven rack position, in the bake mode between 410 - 450 degrees, as appropriate; the bake mode only utilizes the bottom coil. The goal is to cook your food as high in the oven as possible, where the heat rises and falls (i.e. circulates). Upside down, rimmed sheet pans can serve as a riser to customize your oven rack position.

If you start this way of eating thinking that everything you make is going to taste like the food that you gave up, you're going to fail. You have to go into this thinking of all the new and great tastes you will be experiencing and how they will better your body. I always tell people who ask about my WOE, I eat to live, I don't live to eat.

Man I’m so glad I watched this video 😂 thank you, thank you, thank you!! I was feeling pretty stressed transitioning my husband and 4 kids to this way of life after my husband’s health scare. I can’t afford to get everything organic, I have to donate plasma to afford our groceries bc our bill is already so expensive my kids can eat 10lbs of bananas in a day. So thank you, seriously!

For someone who is just going plant based after reading some recipes on other websites I found myself saying " You want me to what now?" "What the hell is that?" "This is to much work" " Lord I don't want to do this " Then one day Dillon and Reebs popped up on my KZbin list and I Had a "AAAAAH (glowing light above)" this is so much easier moment. I honestly always look now if there's something I want to make if you guys have already made it we are doing that.
