THE album I bought in 1996 when I discovered Porcupine Tree and became instant fan. Gone seen them lots of times and Steven in solo , even Blackfield one time. Steven Wilson is a genius. Got all of his music, even the last controversial solo album which divide a lot his fan base. For me Signify is like a black jewel, very dark but very ambient, all Porcupine Tree's essence is already present.

I am thankful to you guys for reviewing the entire album. Signify is one long track divided into distinguishable songs. Please keep up the PT/Steven Wilson reactions. Cheers from India. 🇮🇳

Porcupine Tree were my favorite band for about a decade. Steven Wilson has so much amazing work out there. This was the first PT album to actually incorporate the other hand members as well if I recall correctly. Very much enjoying your channel.

Like this format. Interesting to see you start at the beginning of the band era of PT. PT & SW only get better from here. SW is astonishing and surrounds himself with astonishing people. I am very much of the opinion that reaction requires stopping, and am very glad that you do - but a fun bit of trivia about SW is that he spends a lot of time curating his albums as an album experience - these are not songs and albums designed to be on shuffle or even spotify. He's very much of the idea that an album is an entire thing. Amazingly, I was not sure of all the tracks he pre-released on his latest album (The Future Bites) but when heard together they are undeniable. That being said, his lyrics are a challenge - very dense and often impenetrable. Sort of like Eddie K and Live in that respect. :)

Only just found your channel and was slightly disappointed that you did not seem to move on to more recent albums but I guess there is just so much music and only so many patrons…..Maybe Ryan has done more. I will check. But for your enjoyment the consecutive albums ‘In Absentia’ ,’Deadwing’ and ‘Fear of a blank planet’ are, IMHO of course, one of the best sequences of rock music composition by anyone, anywhere at any time so for your own enjoyment go check them out at least off stream……Steven Wilson’s solo album ‘Hand cannot erase’ also easily makes my top five albums ever and I have over 50 years of active listening to compile from.

Nice you did the whole album. Its the album that hot me into them.Every album is different from the last.In Absentia is one of the best.😎😆

I've been a PT and SW fan for a few years now and you just taught me something fascinating about the origins of the band in the first few minutes of the video. I'm sure someone out there exists like me at least as often as the type of person who would scold you for getting some minor details wrong.

Something that struck me during this listen is that Signify came out around the same time as Radiohead's OK Computer, and it's remarkable how many parallels there are between the two albums, both in terms of production and central themes.

Hell yeah, this reaction is amazing. Porcupine tree has this weird relation with me. It got me through some tough times. But I just can’t listen to them anymore. These songs absorbed all my depression and now I can’t listen to them, like every time listen to any of these songs, It brings back all the unwanted memories and sends shivers down my spine metaphorically. So I am just listening to some random crap these days. Enjoyed listening to them with you guys though. Good work.

Welp here we are reacting to the entire Signify album by Porcupine Tree. Yes! This was the album by which I discovered PT back in '98. There's nothing else quite like it from '90's. Thank you! It's not a concept album, but it certainly plays like one. There is a loose theme, however: the search for significance.

As a massive fan of PT, this was never an album I listened to a lot, besides a couple songs like Dark Matter and Waiting Phase 1. It's more atmospheric and moody music to get lost in instead of music to groove to.

Ryan I know what you're trying to say about PT & Steven Wilson. At least for me, I get lured in by the intros even if they're a little out of my wheelhouse at times because he manages to keep you interested by throwing little things in those that aren't really expected you know? I mean very little things, like a brief guitar note out of nowhere foreshadowing what might come, or just a sound. All the while Mr. Wison & co. is just leading you to a very rewarding payoff, we know it , we wait, and then there it is, that gritty or soaring and always melodic guitar solo that makes you smile and exhale. It's a formula that for me rarely fails, early Genesis was like that, long sometimes mildly interesting intros but that was all for the big Steve Hacket guitar solo or a Tony Banks solo or even a Phil drum solo. Would I be close in describing why you find yourself liking/ appreciating PT as much as the fan base does?

Somehow this album reminds me of 70´s Vangelis experimental albums. So many different elements thrown in but done very tastefully and with finesse. Near the end of the video now and the one album I know of that gives me the same feels as this is the 1990 album -The City, by Vangelis. There is more rock here of course.

Enjoyed the reaction and subed! If you want some SW with images, try "Routine". This one comes with a warning tho - but to say why is a spoiler

I once played this album for a friend, and he described it as "reminiscent of Tool, only much more intelligent." I don't necessarily agree that this album sounds anything like Tool, but some of PT's later material has been compared to Tool.

This was the first Porcupine Tree album I purchased. I really like it, but it's often reviewed as their weakest release. The keyboardist, Richard Barbieri, is the one I knew before getting into them. He played with glam / New Wave band, Japan.

Just my 2 cents but I have yet to hear a PT song that I didn't like in some way or fashion .(with the exception of Voyages 34 parts 2-4, part 1 is outstanding though) Many I love and I mean many and others are songs that are really great. There is something that Steven Wilson possesses that always lures me in, and I hate him for that lmao. There are very few bands that I personally can say that about. PS: His solo work is exemplary as well

BTW: I bet you a POUND I could find you a Rush track with groove, and soul, and the best guitar solo you ever heard. Cash money I could. :)

I have a few porcupine tree songs on my playlists, and I do find them interesting. My first time hearing this album. Very well made and fairly interesting is my thoughts. Thumbs up from me. About what was said here about some prog bands.... I have that "problem" with Rush and Dream Theater. Very talented musicians, but to me it never gets interesting. I keep hearing: "you love Tool, well then you will surely love Dream Theater and Rush". Sorry, no. I have tried, but the songwriting does nothing for me.

Welp, when Ryan talks about guitar solos I hear Inigo Montoya's voice in my head, " You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." Nice music on this album, not the album I would listen to over and over but I liked it. "High quality synth" made me smile. Good job guys.
