This is helpful for someone like myself who is frozen in fear over what color paint to choose. ;) What would you say is the difference between SW Colonnade Gray and SW Agreeable Gray? Also I keep hearing gray is on it's way out. By going with a color in the Greiges category, does that help keep the paint color more timeless? If not, what color is the trend moving to?

I live in the desert southwest and in a very open space. All corners are rounded bullnose, so the main living spaces flow into each other and are blessed with lots of natural light. The exterior has a Mediterranean vibe and my aim is a very comfortable transitional interior that feels very comforting after entering from 110+temperatures outside. Only permanent color is our new medium/dark bamboo flooring. Any thoughts? I really need ideas.

So for 'color' we have the choice of white, beige or grey. What happened to COLOR? Doesn't have to be bold, the palest of shades in green, blue, lilac, yellow all can be lovely. So tired of these boring 'colors'.
@Encourageable8 ай бұрын
People got tired of the overuse of color. White opens the house up, makes it feel alive, bright, and not heavy. Many homes have places where accent colors can be used and most feel like that is enough.

Thanks so much for the great overview! I love the white trend for both inside and out. The house we are buying is yellow with navajo white trim. I would love to paint it all white but it will be a huge and expensive job. Wondering if there is an exterior white or greige color you would recommend to replace the yellow that would also coordinate with the current navajo white trim? There is some brown/gray stone on the facade of the house too. Thanks!

This was a very informative video. I liked your color selections. I realize that for some white's beiges and grieges can be boring, but they do offer flexibility when decorating I love intense colors, but they can become too much over time. They also require more effort to paint offer. I prefer my intense colors to be in the artwork and furniture etc. I am looking for a warm white other than Navajo White. What would you suggest? @welshdesignstudio Жыл бұрын
If you're looking for a wall color to go with your trim and crown moulding, you might want to try an off-white or light beige or greige. A nice, light or medium shade that can bridge the wood tones and white trim will look great. You could also go opposite on the color wheel to your wood trim with something subtle like SW Silver Strand.

We are renovating a 2003 built home (lots of mustardy yellows, dark creams and drab greens!) and the primary color we chose is a warm white called BM Cloud White. We also considered similar warm white colors such as Simply White, White Dove, and Greek Villa. The key thing is to test samples on your actual walls, in different rooms, and at different times of day and see how they interact with natural light, artificial light, window treatments, floor colors, ceiling color and even outdoor scenery (like trees, which might reflect green into your spaces through the windows). Floor reflection and undertones have a big impact on how paint reads. And of course it’s a deeply personal choice. Another thing we are learning is that multiple shades of paint in the same general color can add depth and interest to a space, eg slightly different shades of white for ceiling, walls, trim, etc. This gives your home a sense of layers and history. We are learning as we go!
@welshdesignstudio Жыл бұрын
BM Cloud White is a beautiful white, and I'm so glad to hear you tested multiple options. It's truly the best way to ensure you end up with a paint color that will look great with your unique lighting conditions. Sounds like you're making some fantastic design choices!

Great video! I've been thinking about SW Accessible Beige. Originally, I was thinking gray, but I think I might get tired of it and its to cool. My great-room and kitchen is open concept, vaulted ceilings, plenty of western sun exposure. Dark hardwood flooring fireplace wall w/ beige stone, and warm colors decor. I've not yet seen BM Manchester Tan. I'd like something cozy, clean and inviting with a subtle variation from the white baseboards, but not yellow, green, blue, purple, pink or peachish. I'd love your thoughts?
@welshdesignstudio2 жыл бұрын
Accessible Beige is a fantastic whole-house color. You can also try BM Edgecomb Gray for a lighter option with similar coloring. Manchester Tan has a little more yellow/gold to it than Accessible and Edgecomb, which will be amplified in a west-facing room, but is very nicely balanced. Just be sure to get samples and also compare them to your existing finishes (wood floors, fireplace stone, etc.).

I painted one of my houses entirely in alabaster and thought it would be too white and I ended up loving it. When I went to paint my second house alabaster two different stores did not mix it correctly and had to involve the Sherwin-Williams district representative. He agreed my Painters agreed everyone agreed it was definitely not alabaster but white, pure white -like the ceiling, he did not know what happened. I ended up choosing BEACHCOMBER and absolutely love it. I have 25 ft ceilings that face south and my family room gets so much light that I felt like I needed a little bit more color anyways than alabaster afforded. I was also having to match an existing sofas and this is BEAUTIFUL. This color should be added to your list! I’m considering painting the entire house this color, but I don’t want to get boring . Inside Passage is a lovely warmer beige, which will probably come back into style in a few more years, but for today is not the most popular choice. However, if you love it, keep it, because it's a very nice neutral. For a Sherwin Williams close match, try Softer Tan. If you want to try something in the same color family, but slightly lighter and more neutral (today's trend), grab a sample of SW Canvas Tan or SW Natural Choice.

I have an east west facing kitchen whose windows are blocked by other houses, we are mid terrace, other then when the sun is rising or setting. The cabinets are a pale blue, almost eggshell and it’s a dull dreary room. I’ve tried various shades of white but the cabinets just seem to reflect on to them and make them look pale blue, I’ve tried pale taupe colours and it just looks dull and boring. It’s quite a big room, with exposed beams, and an exposed brick bread oven, luckily the ceiling isn’t too low, it’s about 8ft throughout. It sits in the centre of the cottage with hallways leading in and out, but I am a total loss as to what colour I should paint it. I’m not afraid to be dramatic or to use darker colours but just want it to look more welcoming and warm, to be inviting rather than dreary but don’t want anything too modern that might clash with the heritage style of what is a late 1700’s house. I know it would probably best to change the kitchen unit colour but there is an awful lot of them and with the cornicing etc that would be a hell of a Labour of love. The worktop is solid oak and a little too dark for my liking and that is something we are looking to strip back re-oil and lighten. Any suggestions would be so hugely appreciated.
@welshdesignstudio2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a challenging space! If the room is already a bit dark, then I think you’re on the right track by keeping the walls light. Going dark on the walls will only make things more cave-like. You might try pushing your wall color a bit warmer to counteract the cool blue tones from your cabinets. Something like a very creamy white or light beige. Check out BM Manchester Tan or BM Crisp Linen and see how they look in the kitchen…your lighting will likely shift them more neutral

It depends. If you want your trim and walls to blend together, you could use Alabaster or Swiss Coffee as the trim color, as well. If you like the idea of a more neutral, and brighter white trim and ceiling color, then something like BM Chantilly Lace or SW High Reflective White would work well. The nice thing about a more neutral white on the trim and ceilings is if you want to change your wall paint color in the future, you won't be limited in color choice, like you might be with a creamier trim color.

Color may reflect the personality of the person that chose it but color choice is often polarizing - you either love it or hate it. White makes a home feel open, alive, and bright. There are plenty of “whites” that have enough color to not feel stark. Shoji White by SW is such a white. This is why designers have always used white.

Swiss Coffee is quite creamy, so you'll want to be a little selective about your wall colors. You could also paint the walls swiss coffee, if you want to go white. Warm colors will work well, like beiges, greiges, some warm grays. Swiss Coffee also tends to work well with blue-grays and darker blues, though you'll want to sample as cooler colors can amplify the creamy quality of Swiss Coffee. A few good places to start for light neutrals are BM Revere Pewter, SW Accessible Beige, SW Agreeable Gray.

Hi I’m super late to the chat! What do you think of BM polished marble for the entire house?

If you use Swiss Coffee what color do you use for Trim work?
@welshdesignstudio2 жыл бұрын
You can use Swiss Coffee for trim, as well, but if you want something brighter try BM Simply White or BM Chantilly Lace. Both work great with Swiss Coffee, and won't be as creamy on your trim.

Hi, love ur video. if I selected one paint white paint simply white, should my door molding and my wall panel molding and coffered ceiling should have same paint? or do I have to go with another paint with different sheen?
@welshdesignstudio Жыл бұрын
Simply White is a great choice for doors, ceilings and trim, and would give you a very seemless look. You can choose a different white, like Chantilly Lace for trim and doors, if you want to have a slight transition between your wall and trim color.

Excellent paint color review. I’m still struggling with choosing the right color paint for a large living room and connecting den / kitchen area. Can you assist?

I live in Colorado too. Our east-west exposures make it easy to be happy with one color choice when one room has a predominant exposure. But picking a color now for a longer room with equal east west windows is challenging.
@welshdesignstudio Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a challenge! It's usually a safe bet to choose colors that lean slightly warm, over cooler colors, because they tend to work well with fixed materials (like wood flooring) and play nicely with other colors. If you're looking for a versatile whole-house color, try one that sits somewhere near the middle of the warm/cool spectrum (neutral), but leans slightly warm. For example, a greige rather than a gray, or a muted off-white rather than one that leans more yellow. That should work well in a room with both east-west exposure.

I lived in 4 houses that were painted white. Hated each one of them. White is great if you have a hugh house, but not a small ranch home.

White isn’t for everyone. Hopefully now you have a color you like!

Can you please comment on BM everlasting a beige color? Its this or shaker for my family room and hallways. Your thoughts please?
@welshdesignstudio2 жыл бұрын
BM Everlasting is a nicely balanced beige. Shaker Beige is slightly darker but wildly popular…one of their best sellers. The only way to know for sure is to test samples in your home, and see which one looks best and/or appeals to you most.

Anyone else do dove wing ? I tried it but it looks like primer 😢 unless it’s lighting
@welshdesignstudio9 ай бұрын
BM Dove Wing has a subtle silver undertone, and could look a little stark in some lighting. If it looks too cold to you, try a warmer option (something with more beige or yellow in it) to counteract.

@@welshdesignstudio thank you exactly correct! I’m starting to really love it , especially being these light off white colors as main themes are really taking off.

Hi! Do you know the paint color for the Greige title slide at 2:17?

No, sorry. But you might get a similar look with BM Edgecomb Gray or SW Accessible Beige.

I’m a 33 year old man that is doing a first time DIY project to paint and floor our house and you have no idea how much your video just helped me. I got so overwhelmed with all the gray/beige/greige paints. We are getting the paint from SW and based on your video, I think we’re going to go with the Agreeable Gray as it seems to be a good greige color. Based off of your video I picked up 3 samples from Lowe’s today (cheap way to get a sample of SW paint to pick out the color. SW doesn’t have samples in our area). Picked up Colannade Gray, Repose Gray and Agreeable Gray. Tried all 3 and Agreeable Gray seems to be the best greige choice.

I’ve been looking all over for a north/east facing kitchen color with white dove cabinets. It seems like people seem to settle on revere pewter but that looks kind of sickly green in my kitchen, while white dove is either clean and crisp white or soft creamy during the evenings. I’ll definitely look into Collonade gray! Thanks for the recommendation! I do wish there was more information on kitchen wall colors to match with white dove. Seems to be all gray recommendations, but I kind of wish there was more information on off whites to pair with white dove cabinets.
@welshdesignstudio2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! With a northeast facing kitchen, you'll probably need to push the warmth of your wall color quite a bit to avoid looking too gray, and it sounds like green undertones are magnified in your lighting. Colonnade Gray might work, or maybe try something like BM Edgecomb Gray, which pairs really well with White Dove.

@@welshdesignstudio thank you so much! I apologize I did not get a notification. We actually used Samplize and were able to see Collonade Gray, Collingwood and balboa Mist and all three looked fantastic with white dove, and no green undertones visible. What we found what it wasn’t the paint giving the green undertone but due to grass and foliage outside that was reflecting green!! We decided for this reason to choose a non-gray 🙈 we went with White Sand - Benjamin Moore which really helped to neutralize the green we were seeing.

I have it on good authority that Edgecomb Gray reads very cool and gray year-round in a NE room! And I have White Dove trim. The way I amend its gray is by adding dashes of strong, warm color. 🧡

I have BM sea salt in my main floor west facing laundry room what would be a good trim colour for a craftsman lake house feel . Washer and dryer are teal. Looking for flooring colour and cabinet colour suggestions also. Love this video. We currently have sick ultra suede on our wall but want a more updated lighter look . Currently floors are Jatoba cherry. We want to go with a lighter brown grey luxury vinyl
