Born in 1942 in Calif, the Duck and Cover era, this was very real. Most pics look like war-torn England with the hats and architecture. But I grew up without TV, and we had an icebox instead of a refrigerator, a 78 rpm wind up with a horn, so the pics are very familiar. Each school desk had a bottle of black ink. Many things we did were dangerous, and I fell off a table onto concrete and had a concussion that messed up my future. But the lack of fear, and the hands-on experiences with real life, cooking and sewing and shop classes.... gave us practical skills and common sense that are missing today.

Strange but you never see kids playing outside these days. When I was a kid in the fifties there seemed to be millions of us outside.

Me... born 1948 in the N.West, so these photos bring back wonderful memories, Thanks for sharing. Sadly my Mum destroyed most of our photos from those times, I only found out after Dad died. School photos which were irreplaceable all lost, and Dad's photo's from his time in the army in WW2. Why did you do it I asked, They were Old, why would you want them? They were my memories Mum.

Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows: What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those? That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain, The happy highways where I went And cannot come again.

Fascinating! Keep them coming. Interesting to see the playgrounds with very high slides, and rocking horses, roundabouts and swings which could be manipulated to dangerous levels! Also, the home made soapbox 'cars', lamp post swings and hoops made from bicycle wheels and tires. Lots of poverty then, but life in both town and country was a real adventure for children.

I was a baby boomer and looking at these pics I realise now there were so many derelict building around in the cities just after the war. Of course these were our playgrounds . Statistics show that we did often hurt ourselves on our adventures . If I could go back to that time I would . Almost everyone smoked smelly tobacco then, perhaps that's why we spent time outside.

Do not think l know of anyone else who would not want to go back. It was a better time, even if you factor in wishful thinking. Slower pace and far less pressure. Played outside every night with whoever was there and loved every minute. Can the little ones today say they have that

Born in 49 so 50's and 60's, Bristol. - - - So many great things - -ah, the witches hat roundabout - - - fell off many a time yep got hurt - - then got back on. Homemade trolleys that we raced up and down the road very few cars. The rope swing around the lamp post, the fascination of what was down the drain, plus retrieving marbles! Wooden stick sword fights, knights and Robin Hood. We were lucky enough to have streams by us so of course we built dams - - - the electric milk floats we'd run up behind and jump on, long 'days' roaming, mooching, the countryside take sandwiches and a flask of water wouldn't come back 'till tea time - - - and so much more!!

halcyon days , why must politicians interfere and ruin everything? I was a child then myself. this was a unique era in time which will certainly never come back. We did not know how lucky we were and just took it all for granted .At least I can preserve this to remind me of what has been lost. Thanks for uploading. Odd that half the comments on this 3 year old video were posted in the last couple days. Was it made private for a couple years, or something else caused it to begin appearing in "related video" links? The pictures were fine, but I think different music could have enhanced the "nostalgia" feeling better, The music on this video more or less gave me a headache and only detracted from the images.
