This man is a blessed, gifted artist and a genius. I like the silent perfect tutorials. What is he thinking when he crafts his shoes? Is he thinking what I'm thinking? I think so.

Thanks for the support! I'm not sure what tool you're referring to, I'm afraid. If you do make it to one of my courses, make sure to bring it along! Btw I just put up some new courses: zegzug.com/pages/courses

@dmmillerjr Thank you! I'm making a pair of soft soled moccasin boots, the tutorial I'm following has a welting but I'm not sewing on a hard leather or vibram sole but rather coating the bottoms with a combination of tire grindings and barge cement or shoe goo. I might include the welting for general purposes but my feet are very sensitive so I'm wary of the extra bulk.

Hello Sir, can you tell me why mostly hand welt shoes/boots using 270-degree welt, not 360?
@jutub36623 жыл бұрын
Because the highest preasure on welt is in the front and middle part- i have even made few pairs with arround 180 degree welt, and it was extremely durable as well- no breaks after few years of constant use. But you can make 360 degree welt if you want, it just dont look good in every pair- probably be better for heavy, high boot. Aesthetic is the main reason, but it's also less work to do ;) Greetings form shoemaker from Poland :D

@2JobsStillPoorUSA Welting adds additional water resistance to the shoe, and it's what the outsole is stitched to.

Hello from the Netherlands, I was wondering why you dont have to welt the heel. How is that part of the upper connected to the insole/rest of the shoe? Just with pegs/nails?

Yes, there's stitching in there.

Could you please tell me the purpose of welting on a shoe? Does it perform a function other than looks?

so the ultimate goal is to keep the area where your foot is dry. so by putting a welt, you now have a nice half inch surface to put glue on and seal to the sole. the sole gets stitched on to the welt, outside of the shoe. notice how there will be no direct access for moisture to reach your foot? additionally, as the sole wears, it will be very easy to undo the stitching, and stitch on a new sole to the welt. as long as you polish and take good care of your uppers, you can keep replacing the sole. the shoe can last decades.
