the cool thing about the old copicat is that the preamp is always on, even when you turn off the echo, so you have a constant preamp boost going into your amp, this one sounds great 👍

The Klempt Echolette NG-51 has a superb pre-amp, no slouch either in the delay.
@darwinsaye3 ай бұрын
@@keiranbradley3238Those Klempt preamps sound like a 50s Fender Tweed Deluxe when cranked up. Really fantastic. I would take an Echolette over any other tape echo ever made. Mile End Effects makes a pedal version of the NG51 preamp - I have no experience with it, so I can’t say if it’s good or not, but I thought it was really cool that someone was doing a pedal based on such a relatively obscure piece of gear.

@darwinsaye I haven't had a chance to play the Mile End Effects unit, the NG-51 is an amazing piece of kit!. I'm definitely going to what the Behringer 646 clone of the old Grampian reverb 636 unit, it has a great overdrive. I was gutted that they sold out so fast last year but they are releasing more in November.

@@keiranbradley3238 I had my eye on the Behringer Grampian clone when it came out, but it’s almost impossible to find dealers who sell certain Behringer products here in Canada, so I don’t even bother to get my hopes up anymore. -EDIT: Okay, so I just looked again, and to my shock, Long and McQuade is selling the Behringer 646 now.

Given the hype and popularity of ‘tape echo preamp’ type boosts lately, I’m really surprised at how little they’re asking for this.

Collectors might also be drawn to hand wired stuff, but the real value of handwired gear is that you can work on it yourself and keep it operating forever, even if you’re not an electronics tech. I’ve seen the guts of some of the most modern gear where the components on the board look barely bigger than fleas.

No because it's not the same company. It has zero to do with WEM/Watkins. I'm not even sure how they are able to use the name?. Charlie Watkins had lots of scam artists using his name right up until he passed away not too long ago. Particularly pedal outfits!.

@@keiranbradley3238 it literally is WEM. again, because you're spouting misinformation on multiple comments, the WEM trademark was legally bought a couple years ago. The Watkins family no longer owns the trademark.

Boss did something similar with one of their pedals, took the preamps from the Space Echo, and the original Chorus. The WEM sounds better than either setting of the Boss, IMO.

My favourit guitar player Brian Robbo Robertson in Thin Lizzy used two different models of this. He used them as preamps aswell as echoes. But i don’t like the sound of these amps used here. I think the distortion sounds raw and like over compressed. Also there is so much plinky plonky and finger picking. I’d liked to hear some real power chords on a great sounding distorted amp like a Marshall. The Fuzz just sounds awful. It’s like a broken speaker from a car.

Is that the same Britampco involved with the Music-Grounds fiasco/rip-off?. Charlie Watkins didn't sell the rights to his company name to these people.
@lurchaudio40753 ай бұрын
@@keiranbradley3238 I think you're confusing it with British Pedal Company, which is understandable since the names are super similar. Britampco was only created last year or the year before. The Harrison family has any affiliation with the current owner of Britampco (Hiwatt, WEM, and Park). I know because I work there. My boss bought Hiwatt from the Harrison's about 6 or 7 years ago. I told him naming the parent company such a similar name to one of the Harrison's brands was stupid, we've barely even made any public statements to assure people we have no affiliation with Music Ground/the Harrison's. Hopefully soon we'll come out with something explaining the whole ordeal. Anyways Charlie Watkins has been dead for 10 years, his wife, June, was the owner after that, then the trademark expired and they never renewed it, so it was publicly available for purchase.
@solomonsanchez18973 ай бұрын
The company that's making this actually owns the copyright to the name. The Watkins family sold that off long ago.
@custompedalboards3 ай бұрын
@@solomonsanchez1897 they did not, they just let the copyright elapse in certain parts of the world, this comapny may well have bought those rights. This product has nothing to do with the wem watkins label of old, other than the creator of the pedal bought an old tape echo and recrated the pre amp circuit within, not a bad attempt tbf.
