WEN 10” drill press review. This WEN model 4210 10 inch drill press is one of the cheapest drill presses on amazon. In this review of the WEN 4210 drill press I will show you all the features that this drill press has to offer. This WEN 10 in drill press is a great light duty drill press perfect for woodworking or the casual DIYer. I used this drill press extensively before filming this review and I was quite impressed. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I bought the cheapest drill press on amazon. The fit and finish on this WEN Drill press is not the best but for $120 how much can you really expect from a cheap drill press. I would highly recommend this to anyone who’s primary use for a drill press would be woodworking. I hope you enjoyed this review of the WEN 10” drill press model 4210. Hey WEN, if you’re listening, feel free to contact me to discuss a sponsorship. I’ll be reviewing the 12.5” WEN thickness planer in a few weeks.
Questions? Comments? Sponsorship? 😉

Brads Workbench my work has one in the maintenance shop. It’s a floor standing Wen drill press, and it drilled thousands upon thousands in of holes in aluminum square tubing and the only thing I saw happen to it was the spring that returns the drill back wore out a little bit, but I’m telling you people were we’re on this thing drilling holes for 3 months straight. 8 hours a day. 5 to 6 days a week. And the spring wearing out happened shortly after that project was finished on a smaller project. I was impressed. That is why I’m looking as the 10 in model for home use. Also on the spring assembly the nuts came loose and we tightened the spring after seeing how you could, so that’s a good thing, but if it happens when your spring is still good, it’s a pain in the neck to get put back and it just doesn’t quite feel as smooth after we tightened it so watch those nuts on the cover of that return spring.

I've been using my presses quite a bit this season. Learning threading. Working with structural steel is going surprisingly well, so I went to the metal store yesterday to get some interesting material. Came home with a variety of alloys. Testing them out right now, as the video came up in my feed. One is really hard. Trying to decide whether I want to buy an inexpensive carbide drill or just leave it alone. HSCO just leaves a dimple. OTOH, 440 stainless that's supposed to be pretty hard drills like butter. Quite accurately, too. Live and learn.
@BradsWorkbench
@BradsWorkbench 3 жыл бұрын
Yup when dealing with harder steels it definitely comes down to tooling and technique. Sometimes just getting a pilot hole helps a ton. I keep a couple smaller carbide drills around for exactly this reason. I also use a water based cutting oil that works like a champ. Let me know if u want a link

@@BradsWorkbench Thanks very much, Brad. This stuff looks really good to me. I prefer a more viscous product for cutting threads, but not for drilling. Considering that I actually need some thin fluid, I'll give it a shot. Sure is economics vs paying $10-$15 for 16oz. Edit: Just counted: I drilled and threaded 31 holes in 3/4" 6061 aluminum, and 24 holes in alloy steel. Love doing it!

Curious about how big is your workshop? I live in a mobile home with no garage. Hoping to build a woodworking shop soon. Is 10x20' realistic size? I haven't really built any projects yet. It's a catch 22. I haven't built anything because I don't have a place to build in,lol How do you justify the cost of building a workshop when you haven't already built anything. It's silly I know but I like WEN because of the colors too. Love Orange😝😀 Thanks for sharing your talent and videos, Rodney

My shop is 8x10... it’s about as tiny as it gets. It’s also incredibly cramped. I have to roll my jointer and planer outside before I start working. 10x20 would be plenty big enough for anything you wanted to do. No matter what you’ll always run out of space. But if you’re just starting out I’d suggest just some basic tools. A skil Saw with a homemade edge guide can do anything a table Saw can do, just slower. Jigsaw can do bandsaw work, and there is always going the old school handtool work which is EXTREMELY rewarding when you complete a project. These tools can also be easily stored. Work with what you got. Finding work arounds and creative solutions is the most important aspect of the craft in my opinion. 👍🏼

Thats a big subject for just a comment. But short answer is that its the wobble in the chuck/quill. Tolerance just depends on what you're doing. This has worked well enough for the work I do. But search youtube and you'll probably find some smarter people than me that can explain it better for ya. Oh and typically measured with a dial indicator

Does it not have a belt drive with various pulley sizes? Then it is variable speed. Also, it is sold by Amazon, as well as Home Depot, and others so it is not an Amazon tool. I have more than one, maybe 5 WEN tools and they are all fine for the home user, DIY folks.

With this wealth of nit picky knowledge you have, you know the answers to all your statements. I never said it was an "amazon tool" and you know as well as I do when a drill press is referred to as variable speed most people are talking about electronic or a reeves drive system. I literally even show the pullies and speeds. I have a feeling you saw a thumbnail and just felt like acting like a douche today. Hope your day gets better
