The tail stock is adjustable to tighten up on your work. Have the lathe anchored down on your bench. I’m glad you didn’t injure yourself. These variable wood lathes are no toy, it can actually rip your arm off easy. Be safe friend.

I guess by now you’ve found out that you need to lock down the tailstock, run the tailstock out firmly into the wood, and then lock down the top tailstock lock? Not trying to be smart ass! So glad you didn’t get injured! I wish you’d revisit this vid and explain what happened as a service to those viewers that might not understand, and could easily have the same experience, only not with the happy ending! I know a guy who broke his jaw and several bones in his face when an improperly attached piece of wood was ejected squarely into his face! Jaw wired shut for 6 weeks, and could only eat food that would go through a straw! Not to mention tons of pain, suffering and lost wages from his job! Hope this lathe has served you well since!

Dude you are lucky that roughing gouge didn't fly out of your hands. I know it's been said already, but please always keep two hands on the tool especially with wood that has that big of a knot. Even just doing a demonstration safty precautions are a must.

The Wens weak motor probably saved me from myself. It doesn't take much to slow it down or stop it.

Does this lathe have a pass thru hole enabling longer stock to be chucked? I am very experienced and have large machines. But I need to taper masts for ship models.

Check the breaker and turn the speed up to see if that makes a difference. Also, do not use with a long extension cord with the lathe.

There were two serious errors -- he had the flute (inner curve) of the gouge pointed straight up instead of a 45° angle and he only held the gouge at the far end. ALWAYS use a two-handed grip with your non-dominant hand sliding along behind the tool rest and your dominant hand further back.

There was shipping damage on the speed control housing, but it still worked. Wen sent out a new speed controller/power switch assembly that I replaced it with. There is another video that I made showing the replacement.

I think they were actually asking what went wrong when your log almost flew off the live center and knocked you out.

Most of them had legit complaints as I didn't hold the tools properly. I've learned from the comments and am much safer now.
