7 routes on as many walls in Wenden, all in one go and in 24 hours.
For Silvan Schupbach, the 'Wenden Marathon' represents a severe vertical challenge and the closing of a circle that began when, at just 18 years of age, he took his first steps in high mountain mountaineering.
With the help of his partner Carlos Molina, the Swiss athlete attempts a challenge against time and over 2000 m of climbing on the exposed walls of one of the places where the history of mountaineering in the Alps was written.

Cool video but many many tropes being raised here that are just tiresome at this stage.... 1. 'Climbing is commodified' : why is this now a common theme in adventure climbing videos? Silvan -this video itself is commodified. It's selling a climbing clothing brand. The 'climbing is commodified' comment is never really aimed at a clear target of people or places. One group however, it is never aimed at is private climbing companies themselves who sell products that pull resources from the Earth. Rather the comment is vaguely aimed at people who go to 'crowded' areas. It insinuates a slightly holier than thou attitude. If you really wanted to make an honest comment about commodification why not call out the fossil companies that are melting the glaciers of the alps? The car companies that sponsor climbers to climb ice routes that won't exist in 10 years... 2. 'Fun is overrated in our society': this comment is made in relation to the spacing of the bolts on these routes. Respect for being able to calmly and efficiently climb 10 metre runouts on 7c sandbagged slabs but it can't be denied that an underlying theme with poorly bolted routes is an attempt to keep people off them. Just because people want to climb things that are 'fun' doesn't make it wrong. Some people like the thought of not breaking their ankles. Just do the cool climbs, make the cool video but please stop pontificating to us that climbing is commodified when this very video is a commodified advertisement asking us to purchase a climbing clothing brand. Just climb the runouts and do the routes without calling out people who don't go there because it's really just a dangerous line.

Hey, for sure you've got a point that many things in our world are contradictory, as well as this video. Still, I don't see your point why I'm obliged to live and act as "Jesus", just because I'm sending the message, that it is important for me, that there should remain some climbing spots as adventure terrain. For sure there are many differences in countries, where I live, bolting has become very popular and most accessible walls here are like climbing gyms. If it isn't that way at your place, of course you see it differently. Further, I'm not saying what I'm doing is the real shit and everything else is not. I'm saying my personal view (as always declared as that when I'm talking). The words joy and fun have different meanings. And when I go climbing, I search for joy but not for fun. Because that brings me further while fun is rather linked to short pleasure with no further impact on me. I feel that our society goes more towards fun than quest for joy. Some people might find this thought interesting, if you don't - nevermind. My sponsors have made this video possible. They do their best to get a sustainable way of economy, as do I my best in my everyday live. The world is facing huge problems to be solved. I try to contribute with this ideas: climb local => keep different styles of climbing at your local spots, so you don't need to travel to far (eg to go trad climbing). Search your personal goals outside the grades: be creative and find your personal challenges out of the box. use public transports! Thanks for the discussion, I like reflections!
