I loved seeing all of the different vertical systems, Wendi! All are such fabulous ways to lift plants up and make the most out of small garden spaces!

Thank you Aubrey! Lifting plants really made a huge difference the past winter as the sun doesn't hit anywhere below 4 or 5 FT.

I bought seeds for the two most popular mint types and put about 1/10th of them in potting soil in a used clear plastic food container with lid that butter bagels came in. I put the container in a window in indirect light for three days then for about 15 minutes in later evening sun because they need light to sprout. I had almost given up after over a week but using a flashlight I saw very tiny little green sprouts! I sprinkled one type on one side and the other on the other side because they said one type is difficult to grow from seeds. So if you`re reading this you can try getting peppermint and spearmint seeds. I failed a few times but now I think it`s working. I want it in my rural yard so it smells wonderful when mowed and to use in tea, to nibble on, garden pest repellent, and as an air freshener.

KUDOS to you for starting mint from seed!! I've never tried..only with cuttings. Love the idea of growing it in place of a lawn and mowing it. :D Hope more will sprout soon!

You have so many creative ideas and great tips and advice for narrow gardens. I love that you grow so many rare and TCM plants for health that helped your dog Lotus before too. I lost my chocolate lab 2 yrs ago to cancer so I’ll dedicate part of my garden to him. Thank you for all your inspirational videos 😊🥰🌱🪴🪻🌼🍓🍒🍍🍅

I'm sorry about your lab...It's never easy, but I think they are more accepting of these things than we are. I grew pumpkin and squashes to make Lotus' food as well. Love that you are dedicating part of your garden to him. I'm sure he will hang out there all the time. :) *hugs*

The intensity of your smile, the alertness of your eyes, are sure signs of your Happiness in your garden space Wendi! Of the various vertical grow products, I would agree that GreenStalk appears to have a leading product for that style of growing. In fact as you demonstrate very well in your small space gardening area, vertical gardening is clearly a winner. Here I try vertical growing but am still unsure of plant issues. Tomato leaf curling has become a challenge. Before I set those in this spring, I am going to drape a 30% shade cloth over the cattle panel trellis to see if that solves the issue. Will beef up the strings I use also, because an 8 foot loaded tomato vine is heavy LOL... Happy Gardening Wendi! -Bob...
@wendiland
@wendiland Жыл бұрын
Is the sun that intense there Bob? 8 FT tomato vine! :D The only 2 varieties that's been crazy productive like that were Sun Gold and Black Cherry. Mostly Black Cherry since they don't require as much sun to thrive. It's such a beautiful time in the garden right now with mild spring weather (very unusual for us).
@wranther
@wranther Жыл бұрын
@@wendiland Typically I plant indeterminant tomatoes Wendi, mostly for off season freshness through sauces or canning or salsa bases. The leaf curl has been a recent development over the last few years. Dont believe dicamba overspray is an issue from areal coverage within eye sight. Last summer sure felt hotter than usual, so am trying some shade cloth under the hail net this season.

@@wranther It's better to be over prepared. We're still getting cool weather here (can't complain), but with odd spring might bring odd summer as well.

AWESOME vertical planters you have there Wendi, love how you plant flowers in with the edible fruiting plants, and yeah, no matter the variety of strawberry, yours are totally way more tastier than the commercially grown ones. My first glimpse of that plant that is so vital for the beautiful, the majestic Monarch butterfly, the plant's leaves are for the caterpillars while the flowers are for adult Monarchs as well as other pollinators? Thank you for sharing, liked and hoping your weekend's turning out to be very FUN! :)

Yummy strawberries! Wild blackberries are ripening here so I ate a bunch today and froze a bag to save for a Winter homemade syrup concoction with molasses or honey to eat with homemade biscuits. There are a LOT about to get ripe so I`m picking as many as I can and plan to make some wine too.

Great ideas! That's the fun thing about living in cold places, you get to pick wild berries! How long does it take to make wine? That syrup concoction sounds really good. :)

@@wendiland Blackberry wine can take up to a month. It`s good without being aged I think. Add sugar to the mix and a high alcohol yeast for a very strong wine.

Another wonderful vlog. Do you grow 🌶? That has become my focus lately? Would the vertical planter work for peppers???
@wendiland

I mentioned pepper very quickly in the video, but yes peppers do very well in these systems. I had a few growing in it last year. I mainly grow sweet peppers though. You?

@Wendi Phan ahh yes, I see. I watched again. I have the same results with the sweet peppers the same as with the fruits. It seems I am feeding the neighborhood critters....😊. At least nothing goes to waste. So my only choice other than assorted plants and flowers are hot peppers such as jalapeños, cayenne, chipotle, etc.....this year I have found a new one called the Carolina Reaper (indigenous to China I think)....a very odd looking pepper, heard if this one?

How do you decide whether to plant something in Mr Stacky or Greenstalk?
@wendiland
@wendiland Жыл бұрын
For me I judge by how deep root system of each plant. Mr. Stacky holds less soil than GreenStalk. I would choose to plant smaller plants and herbs in Mr. Stacky.
