Sadly, it's a trope that most racists use in reference to powerful Black Female Singers, so they don't come off as being racist. People say the same thing about Patti LaBelle, Jennifer Hudson, and Fantasia Barrino. It's called belting, not screaming. She did an awesome job. Black Singers have had to deal with this for ages. There is no way that anyone else sang better than she did. This is why the final decisions on the Winner, should lie with the Judges, and not the Voters, once it gets to the semi finals.

It baffles me that even though she’s from the US she’d had pretty much zero success there until The Voice. Her song Come in Out of the Rain was a one-hit wonder here in the UK & was apparently massive in the Philippines & other countries too, but it never charted in the US. She’s said in interviews that record companies in the 90s didn’t know what to do with her. They thought she didn’t have the right ‘look’ for r&b/pop, & because her voice was so similar to Whitney Houston’s, they kept giving her Whitney style power ballads. Of course that ended up backfiring because there was only one Whitney Houston & people thought she was trying to copy her. If you look up her singing live on Top of the Pops, she did sound very similar to Whitney. It’s such a shame that women (especially Black women) have been historically screwed over by the music industry. Wendy deserved better.

Okay, one ALWAYS recognizes Serendipity when she steps out into the place, simply because she makes everything so much better. The band (who, by the way, is off the charts great already) is hitting notes like they have been waiting for this very moment all their lives. Listen to the background singers crooning like angels, as well. Wendy not only woke them up, I think she put them on notice.
