I decided to replicate Wendy's chili.... and it turned out pretty darn good. This is a perfect meal for these winter months.... and you can make it in your own kitchen. Enjoy!

Several years ago I was sent by someone online a recipe for Wendy's chili. It is similar to your recipe with some variations in amounts of ingredients. I use a 6 quart stock pot and have even made it in a 13 quart pot for larger quantities. I find that I use twice the amount of tomato juice, twice as much onion and over the last couple of years I will fry up a pound of pork sausage which gives the chili a more substantial meaty volume and bulk. I have made many , many gallons of this and will share it with a friend. You can make cornbread to go with the chili and that works well too

I was told by a friend who worked at Wendy's that the beef in their chili was the burgers that they didn't manage to sell, that had sat under the warming lights for too long. Which is a fantastic idea. Yeah, it's a great meal on a cold day, and you could even sip it out of the cup when on the road.
@larryhinze2 жыл бұрын
Dave Thomas had his funeral under a warming light.
@johnguess51172 жыл бұрын
You're on the right track. I worked there 1976-80. They don't put the burger under any warming lights. The patties stay on the grill until they are used to make a hamburger or they get too dry and are put into a bag to be used as chili meat. Later the meat is boiled to get the grease out of the patties, drained and then chopped up. IIRC there were 24 1/4lb patties per 5 gallons of chili. Back then there was no fresh veggies in the chili. It was all from a pack of seasoning. I think the recipe has since changed because now you can clearly see small chunks of veggies.

I like on the soupy side and with some diced tomatoes. I mostly make chili at home but I do enjoy Wendy's chili and get large size and a baked potato with sour cream and chives which I put the chili on the potato also over the sour cream and chives. I don't know if true, but have heard Wendy's break up leftover cooked burger patties and add them into the chili .. kinda looks like it to me. Thanks for the video and for cooking for the Mrs .. it was cute. I have the pampered chef measuring cup but I don't use mine .. it is a wee too fussy so I use my various pyrex measuring cups .. thanks for the very entertaining and informative vlog 😁 I just finished eating a batch of ground beef tomato "chili" with plenty garlic and dried spices cooked with frozen onions and peppers as well as frozen baby limas and frozen carrot coins. Usually 2nd day, will have leftovers over baked russet.

This is pretty much the "copykat" recipe and works very well with one exception. When this was posted years ago, numerous posters recommended to make it more like Wendy's chili use a 28oz can of diced tomatoes instead of the can of puree. They're right. Take a look at Wendy's chili. There are chunks of tomato in it. With this recipe you won't see that if using puree. I tried it both ways and using diced tomatoes improves the flavor and texture, especially after simmering for 3 to 4 hours (or longer!)
