I don't know where you got that information from. Chongqing wasn't "closed" for 2,000 years, LOL. In fact, there are periods when China was a dominant superpower and was very open and multicultural (e.g., during Tang Dynasty, the capital Xi'an was as much as one-third foreigner). Then there were periods when China was weak, so it closed its borders to protect itself. The city of Chongqing doesn't have 29 million people. The "city" was defined only for administrative provinces. At 82,000 sq. km. (about the size of Austria), it is basically a province. The contiguous metropolitan area (fair metric of the city) is closer to 15-16 million, which still makes it very large by world standards (which it definitely is). Chongqing is unique because of its extreme steep geography, nestled in a valley carved by the Yangtze River. There are buildings where the entrance on one side is 20 storeys higher than the entrance on the other side. Chongqing is really a part of Sichuan (the province it was carved from), which is famous for its delicious spicy food. Sichuan is also the province associated with pandas. Because of its geography, that southwestern part of China has among the least annual sunshine hours in the world.

The 29 million population is only if you include all the rural areas out to the size of Austria. It was defined that way just for administrative purposes. The city was originally a part of the province of Sichuan, which used to be the most populous with a population over 100 million. China's Central Government split off the eastern part around Chongqing to ease governance. The actual metropolitan area is more like 15 million, which still makes it one of China's biggest cities after Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, and about the same size as Shenzhen and Chengdu. There are actually cities (and city clusters) with more than 29 million people. The Tokyo region has 36 million. In China, if you look at the mouth of both the Yangtze River (extending from Shanghai to almost 200 km west) and Pearl River (Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, etc.), you'll see that these city clusters have merged, and it's just one big continuous area where it is possible to drive from one side to the other, always staying within urban area. If it was considered "one city", the Yangtze cluster would be 70-80 million people, while the Pearl Delta cluster would be 55-65 million people.

Analyze your games, especially your losses, play in a club, get a coach. Based on what strong players say, longer time formats are better to improve than blitz or bullet. By the way, I don't want to dampen your spirit, but depending on how old you are, it may already be too late to become a GM. Very few people ever reach that title, and virtually all of them started when they were super young. But it's OK, you can still get pretty good without being a GM.

@@elimlinrr6898 the current judit polgar retired from chess around 10 years ago and I am pretty sure that she can beat any woman GM should she start playing chess seriously again. The diff between her and the rest of women is just too great. For ju or lei, they prepared long and hard for their WC, but without the prep, I still would put money on Polgar. Neither Ju or Lei have beaten so many super gms the way polgar did. Even her game analysis is superb when she is on the commentary. And what I really meant is another female chess prodigy that isn't a fictitous netflix series. The current WC woman is a very strong chess player but she can't hold a candle vs any super GM.
