While not my initial inspiration you do hit a lot of things I've been thinking about recently while I started my journey. I'm at day 10 of my vlog and I think I set my expectations or commitments to high, now I'm already drowning with what I should do next. Its reassuring to know that I should just hit that record button and go from there. I'm probably going to find a way to start doing voiceovers of my day. Might help. Thanks!

This is such a solid video. You're so well spoken! I agree with some comments already here that you should have wayyyy more subscribers. Over the past week I've motivated myself to finally chase what I've been longing to do for a while, which Is to be a content creator. I do coding for a living so I want to Vlog about my software engineering career and general life. I admit, I did have some fear, but I've come to accept that I'm doing this for fun, while also showing others who may have been in a similar position to me starting out, the chance to see what my life looks like. I've always struggled to express myself socially, so to get behind the camera is scary - but your note about not everything has be perfect and your first content might be really bad really sat well with me. So thank you Wen. Hoping to post my first vlog video at the start of 2025!

I found quite a few similarities between your words and what I'm doing, and what's going through my head as a 45-year-old aspiring KZbinr. Putting in the reps certainly trumps excessive planning and overthinking. Instead of spending forever planning a perfect strategy or getting stuck in analysis paralysis, you’ll learn more and achieve better results by diving in and actually doing the work. Mistakes and iterations from real-world experience are often more valuable than a flawless plan that’s never executed. ;)

I think most of what stops me is how to handle the footage. What am I supposed to shoot? What angles? Where is it going to be? On my phone? Or my camera? I have both, and recording everything, on either or both of them, makes me feel like that’s soo much footage, what do I do with it all? How much will I actually use? And if I don’t use it, then just delete it? I think this paralyzes me because I have so many videos and photos of my daughter and family as well as my work as a hairstylist and the thought of organizing all my digital stuff, makes me feel overwhelmed and that stops me. I don’t understand how to keep the footage under control and organized on my computer. Seems like it’ll quickly become a mess I’ll be buried in fast
@wenhuber5 күн бұрын
I love this question! For your first question of ‘what am I supposed to shoot,’ I’d say it depends on what you’re filming. If you don’t know what type of shots to get, then watch videos from people who have already done that and analyze how it made you feel and what you like/didn’t like about it. Practice makes progress! For your second question about storage I’d say it just depends on what your video is about. I have a hard drive where I store all my videos filmed from my camera. But sometimes I’ll pull things from my phone if it supports the story. If you can have a centralized place for your content (like a hard drive) I’d recommend that. If you can’t, I would say organize the content in your photos app into albums so you can find them easily. Great question! I hope that helps!
@jessloveshomemaking5 күн бұрын
@ oh thank you! Yes I do have a hard drive, I recently got a new external because I already have tons of personal storage to sift through, and then I was preparing for potential content as well. But for example, I hope to do some more baking and mom content since I am a new mother, but I didn’t grow up on a farm lol so I am trying to learn on my own in a small apartment and I feel like to get good clips of my homemaking, I’ll need to record a lot of footage just to get a few small videos out of. But once the video is made, do you delete all your used footage?? To make room for new footage and videos? Or do you keep everything? It just seems like a lot to organize, I’d probably want to delete it whatever went into the video and save just the video?? I’m not sure lol
@jessloveshomemaking5 күн бұрын
@ but that’s for the response! I appreciate your answer! Keeping a hard five specifically for content does make more sense lol
@wenhuber5 күн бұрын
@@jessloveshomemaking I keep all the footage that I think I will use in the future. If I know it’s a one off situation, I’ll just delete it and keep the final video. I find it interesting that you're biggest fear is starting to record. I feel like my biggest fear is sorting and editing. I'm still not quite sure how I wanna do that, but I'm working on it. I just built a new computer and I'm editing a new episode of the "New York Weather Check" podcast and I'm gonna try to finish it today. I think i have problems with delivery because of my ADHD snd being able to speak coherently sometimes. My reaction has always been to fix it in editing, but realistically, all that does is make it more of an emotional hill of shit i have to claw through in order to post it. But also having a fast computer definitely helps.

I think since I have a video production background, I’m confident in my editing. I’m less confident in hitting record because I’m not always sure my ideas/perspectives will resonate. But over time, you get better at it by practicing. Looking forward to seeing what you create!

Love how you record your video! What are you using and what editing app? Im also having mic troubles with my phone🤣
@wenhuberАй бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. I film on a Sony A7S2, and I edit using premiere pro (but you could use CapCut too). I use a Rode mic but you can find some pretty cheap wireless ones on Amazon that should do the trick.

When I did stand-up comedy I greatly reduced my stage fright by telling the audience first thing, that I was nervous. A content creator is like a painter or an artist we are supposed to use the emotions in the content.. if you are documenting, then stating your fear in the content solve the problem

Thanks, Malcom! Rode wireless go are really nice. But I think any cheaper item on amazon will do just fine if you’re not a huge audio person!

Subscribed and liked…got a fx3 with lots of other gears for it..lighting, motorized sliders, and all but i need to make that leap lol fear is a factor but i think i will dive in…thanx for the positive video and helping others who would like to do it but have that fear of what people might say, your close friends or coworkers, will i be embarrest when they find my video and share it at work etc? I think i have to get passed it because if i dont do it now i guess i will always be in the shadows and wont be able to come out and be in the spot light.
@wenhuber3 күн бұрын
That’s awesome! You definitely have the gear ready for KZbin. Your fear is valid and I’m still navigating it myself. But here’s my perspective on the fear aspect: you only have one life. Do you wanna not do what you want because other people are jealous that you’re chasing your dreams and they aren’t?
@ANRO_ANRO2 күн бұрын
@wenhuber well i think also of maybe making fun of my videos at work and passing it around..thats also in the back but i think if i only think about the negative and not the positive of connecting with people like yourself, and other creative content creators. Without this idea i probably never have found you, or knowing that people are out there who also does not take that leap of faith because of the negative thoughts, anxiety over what everyone will say or what type of comments and negative reactions they might receive when posting online. I think that for me the positive takes over negative because you get to collaborate, get to know other creators and without challenging yourself, you will never get over that fear of saying only NO i am not cut out for it or saying YES lets take this next chapter of my journey and see where it leads while enjoying those moments and looking back one day saying” what took you so long”

I have multiple interests. Would you recommend niche channels or just put everything under one umbrella as "me and my passion projects"?
@wenhuber17 күн бұрын
First it just depends if you’re just doing it for fun or to grow. If you’re just doing it for fun I don’t think it matters. If you want to grow, I’d say, slim it down to three main niches first.
