Went to HAIRY TORNADO's GOODWILL OUTLET BINS and THIS Happened! HUGE THRIFT SCORE w/ TONS OF PROFIT

Bought 34 lbs at $1.89 per pound at Hairy Tornado's Goodwill outlet bins in Columbia SC! It did NOT disappoint... HUGE HAUL with tons of profit, including an item that should sell for over $100!
We have missed going to the bins since we live 2 hours away from our closest one, so we had a BLAST going through this thrift store! They had a slightly different system than what we're used to, including trash bags with - what seems to be - fresh donations that never passed through a regular Goodwill store first.
Many people wear gloves at the bins, which we completely understand as there's definitely some dirty clothes/stuff in there! We, however, prefer going in with bare hands as we feel for texture/quality when we go through items. This helps us find high quality items without having to look at brand tags for every single item, which saves us time. But please do whatever you're more comfortable with.

Not everything actually makes it into the GW store. I went to the bins and a family's full donation - these moving boxes were still taped up & when opened all the glass items were still carefully wrapped up - filled up a full row of bins. It was like Christmas! There were so many good things in there including antiques/vintage stuff.

@@RadResells we “retired” to Fredericksburg, VA to be closer to our family, daughter, son-in-law and grandson. Have not been to the “Bins” here. Have 3 Goodwill locations and they are nothing like what you have. My cousin up it Pennsylvania has a Bins. She said when we visit we will go. Will let you know. Appreciate every day in SC.

Oh well that’s nice, at the end of the day, time with loved ones is what really matters! I see. We lived in PA a few years ago before we moved down here, and we went to two different bins, the one in Reading was great to us, they put out new bins throughout the day, but there was a lotttt of people there even 1 hour before they opened lol! Def worth a trip though! We are loving it here in SC, so happy we made the move! 😊

I stopped in a few weeks ago. It was packed and stripped bare. I bought 5 hats for 95¢. I also stopped in at Ashevile, NC and it was also packed and stripped. The best one I went to was Savannah GA. I went 3 times and got over 75 lbs of great stuff.

@@RadResells It was definitely late, like 11:30am. But I was driving from GA to NY, so that's when I got there. I did take advantage of the $1.50 tshirts in the retail. Definitely you want to go to Savannah's bins. I went on Friday at noon, Saturday at 11 am and Tuesday at like 2pm. Bought tons of stuff to resell each time. There were never more than 10-15 people total shopping.

Aaaah that explains it! We also went to the bins in the evening just to see the location when we arrived in columbia and it was so bad lol! Opening time is def the way to go for that one at least. Loving the sound of the one in GA though, it’s on our list to go to now!

A very small percentage of what gets donated actually gets sold in-store. Goodwill makes most of its money by reselling in bulk to brokers. What is at the bins is mostly raw donations, but may have already been picked over by resellers up the food chain who have worked out special arrangements.

That is straight up donations unsorted. Those are the best ones. Sometimes those large Gaylord cardboard boxes have a sign on the that says unsorted. That’s the best too. I’m in Greenville so very similar to Columbia. And on Weds, Friday and Sunday are 1/2 off of you go back. Like 95 cents a pound. And if a coat is really heavy ask for a flat price. Often it’s 2-5 dollars. Will needs glasses

No, it’s a regular bins day. They rotate those bins out first thing in the morning. They do not do any more the rest of the day. That’s in Columbia. Greenville rotates a few by 11am then usually nothing after that unless u get lucky. But just 1/2 the price and twice as many people!!

Landfill?!? Goodwill transports them to Mexico in 18 wheeler caravans to sell as well as Savers. Prices are about the same in Mexico. Ours are $1 per pound

How exciting!! Make sure to be there before they open; if you even arrive 10 mins late you’ve missed out on a bunch of stuff! And honestly, we’ve only been there one time for 3 days, and we hit up every single one of the retail stores and they all did solid - besides the one with the bins 😆 So I would try to hit up as many as you can, but it’s hard to say which was the best since we only went to each one 1 time 😅 Good luck! you can tell if they've been gone through based off the word on the side. Rag houses use the same terminology for things like that. Credential will mean never sorted through and industrial is for stuff that has been sorted.

Sometimes it's not about buying 50 items at GW thrift like I do 😂, it's the quality. Is that how you all have built your business, by buying less quantity, but more quality, even if that means growing your store slow? However, if the sell-through rate is super high and/or the COG is $1 or less, we’ll pick up items that should make $8 profit 👌🏼 Just because going for $5 profit items doesnt seem to be worth our time! We had a slow period with little sourcing but it’s picked up for is A LOT lately! So happy about that, we were getting nervoussss 🤣 That was the first time we ever saw the bags at the bins!
