Having been nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Globe Awards for his portrayal of Michael Schofield in Prison Break, Wentworth Miller is one of the most iconic American television actors. He has become an outspoken advocate of gay rights and increased mental health awareness, often speaking about his own experiences with depression.
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.o...

@HCl4dplayer That's such a stupid statement. Do you think Einstein invented everything? His only contribution was to several topics one of which involved splitting the atom. He studied literature at Princeton and in his own way he is a genius.

Aiden Moody lol what You know how exclusive that school is and the level of education and accolades there professors have. The students end up becoming some of the most independent minds in the world. Now days graduating school doesn’t mean shit but schools like that will remain precedented and graduating from Princeton means you got brains.

@@rokhayademe6685 I'm sorry?? I didn't mean to offend you like I said. I respect your principles and you should also respect his life style. It's not like if he was straight he would've married you (sorry). He's a grown person and he can choose if he is gay straight asexual etc. Just stop trying to push the idea of queerness in the category of gross things. there is a saying that went like 'if you dont have to say something nice about it then dont say anything about It at all'. So, i respect you if you dont accept people of other sexualities (besides straight) , but dont say its gross etc. It all comes down to respect, and if you were a fan or a supporter , you would've respected him and shut up about it.

I dont know if you got my point in there: I respect your opinion, I respect your choices but please respect him as well!!!! Sexuality has been a really controversial topic nowadays and i know that some religions and cultures dont like the idea of queerness but it's still none of our concern. His life, his choices, his personal preferences and he should be respected. I hope I didn't offend you and if I did please understand that I didn't want to come across as mean etc! I am such a fan of Wentworth Miller. Not only is he a magnificent actor, and activist. He is a very intelligent, and well-spoken man. I'm so jealous of the interviewer, and the audience. I wouldn't know what to say, or ask. I would feel like my lack of pronunciation, and my grammar would not be good enough for a man such as himself. 😂
@Sezbet1
@Sezbet1 7 жыл бұрын
Sweetheart, having just watched this, I truly believe he would never judge you. Speaking as someone who (though I am a scientist) grew up in a theatre family, your pronunciation and grammar are mostly a matter of dialect, and if you ever met him and became tongue-tied it would probably be that you're star struck, not that you lack the brain cells to formulate a question (I'd probably be the same). You're putting yourself down, yet your post is perfectly written, no spelling mistakes or grammatical errors (though my grammar is appalling, so perhaps I'm not the best person to judge) - and that's remarkably rare these days - so perhaps take a bit of advice from Mr. Miller and start being kind and supportive to yourself, best wishes to you, Sarah.

Friendships, family, girlfriends, procrastinating, fears of not being content after putting in all the effort, projection, isolation, security, vulnerability... a brick came loose within this 48 minutes and for the first time in my entire life, i feel like i can see the other side. I used to be in a small group with WM...he is the same here as he was in that small community of other men. Very gifted, obviously so, but equally humble. He was a leader without ever trying to be a leader...great listener. Never, ever, did he act like, "I'm a TV star..." In fact, he tried to never let anyone know his background. Integrity. He's the real deal...he was that guy who you felt supported by without ever saying a word. Silent power...

I love how in the beginning some didn't look much interested, but then, towards the middle, everyone was paying attention. Wentworth has got this rare talent of talking about serious topics without being boring or presumptous about it, and that attracs attention in a way that makes people think about things and, as the interviewer said, to feel self assured. This is amazing, and it would've been even though he wasn't a quite famous actor or just some good looking guy. There's so much more in him that I wish people and fans would see.

It perplexes me that people click on a video, a 50 minute spotlight on a single person, and then accuse him of being pretentious, apparently because he talked about himself a lot? I dunno. he really didn't come off pretentious to me, in fact his words are very riveting and I find him very easy to listen to. the fact is that it's impossible to speak honestly about oneself without sounding like you've put entirely too much thought into yourself as an individual. everyone does it, just most people aren't questioned in such detail about their idea of self.
@chezzasan2730

It is very obvious that these people DID NOT watch the entire 50 minutes. Many skip this video because of its pace and length. This speech was literally the polar OPPOSITE of pretension. Pretension is when you feign to be something you're not to come across in a better or well-perceived, often more sophisticated manner in order to show off/make other people feel you're better than them. This is not a man feigning to be sophisticated. This is a man who IS sophisticated and becoming incredibly vulnerable and REAL in front of an audience, in order to help them and make them feel better about themselves. Anyone calling him pretentious - is ignorant of the meaning of the word (and highly likely ignorant in general) and highly likely to be jealous. I thought this was a masterful speech.
