Many of us know the pain of expecting our fathers to show up somewhere they promised to be, only to be waiting hours and hours. When the realization sets in that they're nowhere to be found, it's such a gut wrenching pain full of disappointment and anger. Hopefully Charlie will look back and see this moment as something special regardless of her dad not showing up. In the end, he has to answer for not being there. As my mom once said "A parent that doesn't do right by their child doesn't end up having a happy life." My real father is living example of someone who didn't do right by his children, and tried to reach out now that all of the hard work my mom endured is over. But it's too late, and he has to live with knowing he put his own needs before his children.

So I had my bags packed for the weekend to spend time with him and he never called or showed up. I sat by the front door for 3 hours thinking maybe he lost track of time. Step- parents don’t get enough appreciation like they deserve. I’m 1 of 6 from a blended family. I’m 31 and my “step” dad has been in my life since I was a toddler. He is the only father I know. My biological father was just inconsistent and as I got older, it didn’t matter to me if we ever had a father-daughter relationship. My dad never treated me any different than his biological daughters. He would practice cheer routines with my sisters and I, coached us in softball, braided our hair, rode rollercoasters and even let us cuss during😂 When shit goes down, I ALWAYS call my dad. He’s like Superman to me. Especially in emergencies. I’ve been in car 3 accidents, had my car stall on the highway, had a seizure, and even passed out in my bathroom from a nosebleed & each time he was around to rescue me, I knew shit was gonna be okay. I’m glad my mom and him met because my childhood was too litty as a military brat. Biological father or not, dads like Waka deserve the privilege and benefits for being an amazing stepfather just as much as a good biological father would.

My step-dad is amazing so much so that I called him dad from from the beginning of my mom and his marriage. I have a younger sister yet I never felt any different than she did growing up. I knew my father and even though he is a good dude he always put himself first. My stepfather worked 2 job as a military service men to provide me and my sister and my mom nothing but the best. He encouraged me, uplifted me, and educated me there isn't a thing that I have done that ever made him turn his back on me. I can't thank him enough for being that kind of man that I needed in my life. Kudos to the men who have big enough hearts raise children as their own, when their biological fathers can't or are unwilling.

We have talked through the pain of his absence and I have no ill will because I had a father who wasn't an alcoholic and suffering from ptsd. And I'm not making excuses for him at all, I want to know him and I can't if angry all the time, im past that and he is a great grandfather to my kids now, they don't know the past him only the present.

Man listennn, I never had a relationship with my real father. This man passed 3 years ago and I went to his funeral. I had to explain to my kids who he was. I was numb and I couldn’t stop looking at him laying there because all I wanted to know was why didn’t you try before it got too late. My stepdad has been in my life since I was 9. Been there for me and my kids. I’m truly a daddy’s girl and til this day at 34 if I call my daddy right now and tell him “I need you” he coming.
