According to Wera catalog the 25 piece set includes pentalobe but omits torx T9. There are two 12 piece sets with a different selection of drivers, the electronics set include pentlobe but omits several slotted

the way to do it: buy the big kit, but then also buy individual ones and sets of 6. and can buy the replacement tool rool for the big kit (empty item) to put all the extra ones into.

You are correct Keith. I remembered getting the pentalobe but you are right, it was the T9 with that large set of hen I got it a couple years ago. Thanks for the correction.

@@dreamcat4what ones do I need to buy separately to have a full set when it comes to the 25pc roll? Just a T9 right?

For the record the "mini prybar" is a chip lifter for removing components from PCBs, socketed or otherwise. Seems like not many of us left that do component level repair these days, everything is modular replacement. As always great video Doc.

Thanks for the clarification. I’ve used similar shaped plastic tools but didn’t make the connection to a metal one.

Dedicated screwdrivers reach into smaller spaces better. I find that sometimes you can't reach the screws because of the bit holder or driver.

I just got a cheap mini electric screwdriver. About 1/5 of the 4mm bits are extra long ones for just that reason. I’m pretty happy with them so far. I have some long 1/4” hex bits too, but they’re pretty heavy. My kit goes into a shoulder bag. I also got a set of 4” long 1/4 hex Phillips bits. It has #1 and #2 Phillips with a range of shaft sizes. I love the extra narrow shaft #2. I know it doesn’t have as much torque as a full size but I don’t need high torque.

I use one of these Wera’s in the 1/16 hex variety every day at my job. The quality of the tip is very good. Wouldn’t replace it for the world. Love that little screwdriver

Thank you for the video, I've been looking at the Facom micro-tech precision drivers but they are up there in price. Bzeug has a recent video comparing a large group of higher end precision drivers

if you want a more comfortable alternative in the hand to these wera ones, then i recomment the pb swiss precision drivers. but they don't have such a comprehensive set of different types / sizes as the wera range can provide.

i also like the longer shaft of the dedicated precision set, can't really do that with the iFixit set unless you get an extension which will make it front heavy, and wobbly.

I carry the 1/8" flat version every day for about a year so far. I use it to poke holes in drywall very frequently. Not the slightest hint of wear to the blade. Still going strong.

Actually depending on what you're working on you want both the bit set and screwdriver set for when you need 2 of the same tool.

I have a few good quality bit sets, so I can just put the bits I want to use in dedicated handles when I'm working on things with tiny screws. And instead of 25 different bits, I have a couple of hundred, plus some duplicates. I do have a few small screwdrivers, for sizes I use all the time, but I just can't justify the money, or the space, to have a big set of them, when the bits beat them on variety and space efficiency. I only have a 3 car garage, and I've been forced to give up about 1/4th of the space for gardening tools (and golf clubs). At least I drew the line on bicycles.

this set looks great, I rarely use precision screwdrivers so o would probably get the bit set because its smaller and i can have all of the bit i could ever need. but if I start using them more then that would definitely be set to upgrade to because you would have the bits for the random specialty screws you come across and the screw drivers for the more common ones.

When I got the 2021 advent calendar (had micro drivers). I sold my old ones that weren’t color coded. Since then I have bought an empty 12 driver pouch. I have added some I didn’t have but needed. Like a ph1 (Lenovo laptops) PL 1.4 (old MacBooks) IPR 1 (iPhones) Hex 2.0 ball end (electric razor) And some Torx BO (security Torx) Now I’m thinking I need the little pry bar for fixing keyboards on laptops 😁 Also probably should have gotten more of them in the esd version (yellow)

Do you have a part number for that pry bar/chip lifter, and is it available separately? I have the 12-piece Wera set and I'd like to add that pry bar if possible.

Thanks for the overview Doc. I have an ifix kit as well, but like you said, dedicated drivers are sometimes ideal, especially if you're dealing with screws in deep recesses. I have an old stanley six piece set and have been looking to replace it for years now. Have you tried any of the wihi microdrivers?

I like the color coding of the screwdrivers, unfortunately the case show on Amazon with the 12 piece set is a different case then what is shown in the video. The case shown on Amazon completely blocks the color coding on the handles via the strapping method of the case.

The color coding is fairly recent, make sure not to get an older model where they all look the same.

Come on, now, be honest with us. How many 4mm drivers do you have? I'm *sure* you could grab enough 4mm bit drivers so that you didn't need to switch bits. (In all seriousness, I'd never thought about that as an idea but I might try it...)

I’ve had a set of these for a while, the case is bulkier than it needs to be and the tips aren’t as hard as others. I would prefer Wera to put more money into the drivers and less on the fancy but impractical case with unnecessary moulded graphics 👍

These sets always come with far too many flatheads. It's really an obsolete fastener, and clearly these are aimed more at electronics and tech more than antique watches and clocks.
