I work in industrial maintenance/automation and I think you’ve hit the pros of these right on the head. I don’t carry them quite as often at my current employer (utility level battery manufacturer) because there’s a lot of acidic electrolyte around that loves to destroy even stainless tools. I’ve been blessed through my career to always have employer supplied tools, but I had always still carried mostly my own hand tools, because nothing is worse than working on stuff with crappy hand tools. But here, I leave most of my former “work” tools at home. Except for my Wera hex keys, which I think are a “wear item” anyway. Thanks for the vid! Always like to see what others think of tools I do or may use!

Got both the joker set and the knipex pliers. There’re plenty of situations to use them both. One thing over the joker is that it might slip off on certain nuts since the grip is not very strong ,needing in this case the knipex pliers. On some tiny spaces when there’s no room for readjusting the knipex the joker is the tool to use. Happy having them both in my toolcase. That’s my experience with these tools.

I can definitely see the appeal of these. One thing I really like about my Knipex pliers that doesn't get mentioned enough is how slim they are (I mean the depth of the tool), which means they often fit into tight spaces much more easily, not to mention that two in my back pocket are no big deal! Just my 0.02.

I hate the knipex pliers wrenches. It’s not a quality issue it’s just after years of using wrenches and sockets, I hate the angle I have to use them on fasteners. The only ones that I use are the 6” or 7” ones. For my trade everything is tight. These wera spammers are so much more useful for me. And they make an xL (19mm-24mm) and a xxl that goes from 24mm to 32mm. @Joel_E3 жыл бұрын
Not only is the range of adjustment narrow, the size groupings are better-suited to Metric than to SAE bolt/nut sizes. I really wish they made a 7/16" to 9/16" version, as that would cover 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8" bolts perfectly.
@djjoey08123 жыл бұрын
Honestly there's some videos on KZbin but if you get the set (wish it was demonstrated how big a size some of these would go) but the sizing on here is only for the sizes the feature works on, I know they go up a few more sizes then they say on the tool and it'll still works as a more normal wrench (aka no ratcheting)
@garyp.75013 жыл бұрын
@@Joel_E Well Wera is a German company, and Germany uses Metric stuff, so that makes sense that they would size these to the metric and then print on the SAE equivalent sizes.

These things would be incredibly annoying for me to use. The range is ludicrously small. I would be constantly looking for the correct wrench. I have lots of wrenches. Lots! Of the modern wrench types, I’ve found the Knipex to be the most useful overall. With these Wera, you basically need a wrench for each nut or screw size. That’s very expensive for what they are. The Knipex will also “ratchet” by loosening your grip slightly and turning it backwards. You only have to hold the top handle to apply full pressure, not both.
@bwest-s1w28 күн бұрын
I own the set of 4 jokers. I have never had a problem choosing the right size. I suppose if your fastener is at either end of the range of the joker one might pull out two including the size up or down. But how is that any different from a conventional wrench? If anything the range of the joker reduces the chances that you have to go back to box to get the next size up or down. Btw they are fantastic wrenches. Not for every situation but in some situations they are the best tool for the job. I also own full Knipex set which is also an excellent tool. If I lost either of these tools I would absolutely replace immediately.

Everyone has 220V in their house. Freedom units means that the US basically makes up their own rules and everyone else is of secondary concern. Should American citizens start dating, "English is the global language. Everyone else should switch to English"? I'll bet language causes WAY more problems than USCS to metric conversions do.
@chrisfyfe92122 жыл бұрын
@@littlejackalo5326 To be fair , US is a mixed bag , limited 220 -240 , the bulk is 110 . Language and Culture causes a lot of screwed up miscommunications ! I dig European household panels , they are so small and light ! The UK , uses a fair bit of 110 for construction ( or at least used to ) , prolly so they could use readily available US made tools ! What I hate with imperial is conversions , Thous. , tenths of thous ., 64ths etc , mm’s and Microns are way easier ! Way fewer mistakes ! That’s why Swiss , German stuff is way more precise than US stuff ! Why Sig Sauer , and Glock kick the Crap out of Colt & S and W !
@smokey-bowls-18742 жыл бұрын
America has stuck to Imperial because it's a more sensible system for the layman to use (and the prohibitively high cost of changing over road signs/educating everyone how to use metric). The Imperial measuring units were based around real world measurements of other common objects (foot, for example), so they are easier for the layman to visualize and conceptualize. Metric is great and a very precise measurement system, but most average people will never need the amount of precision that the metric system provides. As a wrench turner working with a mix of American, British manufactured (German engineered), & South Korean machinery, I end up using both systems extensively and am more readily able to visualize metric measurements. But to a barista or sandwich artist for example, metric is essentially useless.

the knipex and wera's are both necessities for an 'endgame' tool box imo, but between the 2, ill take the wera over the knipex every . single. fucking. time. its a ratcheting open ended wrench that covers multiple head sizes, if I need a tight grip to torque it down that last half turn, i can pull out a standard wrench, but getting nuts and bolts in tight spaces needs some sort of ratchet like mechanism, and this is perfect, ive used this style before and its 100% my go-to for 99% of situations that involve a bolt or nut

very interesting wrench! does it ratchet (like make that click sound?) as you turn the head ?
@MillisConstruction3 жыл бұрын
It actually opens slightly when you rotate it in reverse to allow it to reset. You’re hearing it click back onto the bolt head there.

@@MillisConstruction gotcha! do you have a discount code i could use over at KC Tools ?
@MillisConstruction3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately they don’t give out discount codes when you’re an affiliate, I actually went ahead and contacted them this morning to verify that and they told me no. 😔

@@MillisConstruction np i think its already discounted on KC - $169 for this joker 6004 seems alright
@MillisConstruction3 жыл бұрын
I’d say so! I believe I paid closer to $199 and it’s $176 on Amazon right now so that’s not bad at all

I have a set of the Orielly’s Power Torque 15-17 and 18-20 as well as the adjustable wrench which is the same type just well obviously adjustable. Lol. Ironically the generic brand has no plastic on it whatsoever. Aside from after they wear in a little they can be mildly frustrating in tight places. I have used these and I honestly believe the Orielly’s brand did it better.

I believe you, it is disappointing to see the plastic piece. I haven’t had any issues because of it but still… I’d expect better on a quality tool

How are they for rounding bolts? That’s my issue with adjustable they never truly bite 100% correctly

How much torque can you get on these? Im thinking of using them to get rusty bolts off

I want one of these and I never even use wrenches.

Wera makes tools that do that 😅

I find that my knipex pliers wrench replaces adjustables and jokers replace open end wrenches in my tool kit
@watchvideo7225 Жыл бұрын
The pliers wrench is perfect for turning old bolts that are stuck because you can't round the edges. I wonder how the Jokers deal with that, probably not impossible to slip off you nuts and bolts.

Right on, thanks for that.

This video peaked my interest in the joker. Just checked the Tool of the Day, it's the xs joker for $29.50. I'd like to try it in my "around the house" pouch. If a bigger size hits the TotD in the next few weeks, I just may be buying. I'm not ready to go > $50 on a tool I think looks "neat". I intend to put the tiny one through some work, little tiny work.

This looks like the nice set for a fancy tool-loving carpenter like me, but I wonder what real hardcore hands covered with black oil auto mechanics have to say about these? Any input?
@LemonySnicket-EUC3 жыл бұрын
They work. And with one hand.
@Ollv333 жыл бұрын
mechanic won't use these, they work out of a large toolbox. this is more practical for someone who is on the move working out of a small toolbag.

The only logical replacement for comfort grip Knipex Pliers Wrench, was a VDE Knipex Pliers Wrench. ⚡Shocking⚡ !
@MillisConstruction3 жыл бұрын
This is true 😁 nothing really beats the mighty pliers wrench!
@yuvalbcd14972 жыл бұрын
These are a fun concept but the Knipex still as capable as this wrenches at thing they do. Too "specifically designed & designated to rotate hexagonal things" that's imo a "bad" solution. Instead of tackling the problem/issue/ process, it looks at the existing tool and the way it functions, and creats a tool which is functionaly the same but with better manners. Pretty much making a better tool for the user experience/ job, instead of solving problem by creating a new method to solve our problem with a previously non-existent device of their own creation. Am highly high #Pineexp

sometimes you dont need to reinvent the wheel. Don't own either tool at this point.
@pj44339 күн бұрын
The wera does exactly the same, as you turn it tightens itself. You just don’t have to grip to tighten. The turning force tightens infinitely

All I have is my Harbor Freight or my fancy craftsman ones 😕

Those craftsman ratchet wrenches used to be just awesome. I had a set too, I bet I still do somewhere. The ones from 15-18 years ago anyway lol
