Hey, great follow up video and thanks for the shout-out, man! 😀👍 I’m really glad that you found that feature. These new ratcheting drivers from Wera are really great tools, and that free spinning “speed” function is a terrific feature. I’ve only had the tool for a couple of weeks and I’ve already used it a bunch. Cheers, man! 🥃😎

Brilliant follow-up video! The "bulky" Wera ratchet selectors aka "Switch Over Rings" of the 811/1 RA 816 RA Kompakt 27 RA 80 RA etc do not work like these new 838 RA-R M and 838 RA S ratcheting bit holders do.

Great follow up video, I have the older version ratcheting drivers with the metallic selector and they are opposite of this new ones, like the majority of the ones I have. Sometimes it happened to me when I was driving a screw in tight spaces, to catch the selector ring on something, reversing the direction of the ratchet. This never happened with the older version of this wera tool. I have the 816RA version, I like the finer tooth count ratchet, it's rated to 50 Nm in the brochure. But I have to try this new version, I like the speed function. This rapidaptor holder is wobbly, and not only on the ratcheting drivers, actually the holder is sliding with the locking ring, adding another little gap in the mix. But after all is not a big deal for me.

I'm glad to see the topic of selecter direction finally come up in a review. My first ratcheting screw driver was a snap-on way back when you could only get them in the black hard handel version. I've been wondering if it's the direction I perfer, or just something I have muscle memory for. I've admitted if I drove in a country where you drive on the other side of the road, that would be wery awkward. . But regardless...for me its always been turn the selector in the direction you want to turn the screw, or else it feels backwards.

"Selector bump" during fastener driving, resulting in ratchet going wrong way, had been a pet peeve of mine for years! Even wrote to Bahco about it, fifteen years ago. But now I've seen the light 😊

Personally I don't like traditional reversed selector for ratcheting drivers, because if the switch is not in a good location you can accidentally actuate it when you're quickly driving something.

Anex 397 + Centrofix adapter is my go to driver, it's the best in my opinion. The wera isn't ready in my country yet, I'll buy it when it's released.

The older Wera ratchet drivers had the selector in the opposite direction, I didn't prefer it but I did get into the habit of holding the selector ring with one hand and turning the handle in the driving direction with the other. But it did mean that when I didn't have a second hand free it took a tiny bit of thought to remember that I need to flick the ring the wrong way. I've now switched to the Hazet driver (much preferred, less drag and holds more bits) and prefer the selector ring direction.

Yes, I have been using the free spinning function with the rollgear as well, though it is not as ergonomic as the new Wera. I too think that the ratchet direction selector should follow the same direction as in the rollgear or new Wera.

I wish one of these companies made a driver like the 11-in-1 impact driver from Klein. I really want to try out these brands, but I have yet to find anything like that. It's super convenient because it's faster to switch that grabbing individual bits from a handle bit holder, because it also can drive hex fasteners up to 3/8" AND because I can throw the tips on an impact quickly. The downside is that it's not magnetic, which is a real bummer. I do have a Vessel ratcheting screwdriver (2200MBH120) and it's TERRIBLE for one handed use. The selector gets bumped when in normal use and goes the wrong direction. Also, the stubby part has a TON of slop when you use it with the included bit and has problems with US bits as well, either FAR too tight or too sloppy...which is strange.

It looks like the Wera's selector needs to be setup the way it is for the free spin. I've seen other videos where the creator talks about the direction of the selector on different drivers but it's a non-issue for me.

Yes, indeed. Definitely a design decision. I'm getting one for that reason as well as low back drag and handle design. Hopefully, the wobble mentioned will be tolerable.
