As a good Canadian I love my Robertson screws. I've used Torx screws a handful of times and find them to be inferior. 99 percent of the time I use wood screws with an impact but your video has inspired me to give the wera screwdrivers a try. I recently rebuilt a deck, and a relatively recent change I've noticed at big box home improvement stores, the Robertson wood screws are no longer made in Canada, and incidentally have way more defects in the batch. Far less reliable screwdriver retention as well. I am turning into an old man complaining about the good old days of screws lol.

thanks to Warren WEF Buffet your canadian screws are now made in PRC and are way more profitable for him and his ilk... 😏👌

So glad you made this video. As a second generation cabinet maker as well I've always been on the lookout for the best #2 square bit. Currently it's between felo and wiha terminator especially their new 3.5" terminator bits. They stick on like glue. I've tried square plus but In a drill under force the bits seem to like to pop off the side I definitely feel like in the context of wood screws they are best used just for removing worn fasteners.

Canadian here... i didn't know that there was a Square + in Wera. i do have the black/red/green Wera screw drivers you show in my tool bag and i like the feel and fit of them. They're my go to for electrical. I've never seen 00 or #4 Robertson that i recall.

I called them square-plus many years ago. I was so surprised that none of their literature mentioned that feature. That seems to have changed in recent years as you showed with their bits. A few years ago I bought their square bits and yes, they are square-plus. I've never seen a #0 or #00 square, so I don't even own that size of screwdriver.

Square plus?! I had no idea. Wera Robertson drivers and bits have been very good for me though!

Here in the UK, Robertson is not very common, and I've never seen anything other than #2. For those, I find I can usually get by with a 3.5mm flat, which is a common electrical size and a pertect fit diagonally.

As a Canadian these square screwdrivers from Wera are the best I have ever used. Also honorable mention to bondhus they have a ball drive square screwdriver which lets you tighten on an angle

Nice vid, caused me to spend some more money on Wera drivers… 😆 But I want to comment on the ECX drivers and bits. Actually, I’m not sure that different tool companies are following a consistent spec. For example, Milwaukee’s drivers and bits (which in my experience work particularly poorly) look like they’re a combination of slotted and square, but others look more like slotted + Phillips or square + Phillips. Years ago I bought a pair of GB insulated screwdrivers and the combo/ECX driver (which is currently MIA) worked magically. The MW and Klein drivers and bits don’t work nearly as well, and you stated the reason: they don’t engage most combo screw heads very well. The Wera R1 driver work =really= well, maybe because of the “plus” tip configuration? - not sure about why, but sure about the results.

Good video. You mentioned the hybrid #2 square with a flat not fitting as deep as a normal #2 due to the flat point being flush with the square point. I just received some PB Swiss bits today and one was a 2 CPZ that has the flat tip recessed a little lower than the square tip allowing the square to go in much deeper for a better fit. Works great for electrical receptacles.

I have a drawer getting filled with unused Robertson #3 bits. I switched to Robertson in the early 2000s. I prefer the color coded bits so I’ll buy the Rack-A-Tiers variety pack which happens to include #3 bits. I still haven’t got in a situation where I need a #3 bit.

interesting (square of course) bit of info, those canuckian Robertson screwdrivers with CompoGrip handles have a german tool making heritage too having been patented by a german guy named Will... 😗👌

isn't being usable by -dumb canucks- innumeracy afflicted _screwy northernerds screw turners_ why the size has been indicated by the colour of the driver handle since the last century? 😏👍

Wera's square plus is BS. If you're slightly off centre with an impact they're almost as prone to camming out as the ol' Yankee phillips bit. Proper robbie bits pretty much center themselves. It's getting hard to find proper robertson bits - Task tools makes proper bits but they barely put any colour markings on them. For screw drivers, Gray makes damn fine robbie screwdrivers, and Klein's are a close second. I've only seen brown robbie heads once, in the cast iron harp of an old piano. You'll run into yellow robbies occasionally in electronics, I've seen them used to hold down circuit boards in old small electronics.

“Square” IS the standardised name for Robertson. Torx is “hexalobular” or something akin.
