The Wera Zyklop Speed Ratchet is an excellent expression of a 1/4" swivel head speed ratchet. I couldn't find much online about this ratchet but most of my other Wera tools were top shelf. And my experience with my 3/8" Cornwell swivel head was enough for me to click the buy button. And if you would like to click the buy button also, here it is"

Here in Germany WERA are regarded to build the best screwdrivers for decades, and during the last years they expanded their range of tools susceptible. I have this guy, too. Works great. In my shop, there are rails of green/black Wera handles over my bench.

I use one of these almost every signgle day at work and it's great! Get yourself the Wera Zyklop 1/4" to hex locking adapter if you don't have it already and it's even better being able to hex bit with it. (I believe you have some already) And the "speed" collar on it is identical to the speed collars that come on some of their 1/4" extensions. Keep up the great work Doc! Your collection is a marvel to think about what's all there!

i've found it a bit too bulky and on the short side for some work, still using an old TH737 for all the rough and not clean stuff needing more -persuasion- leverage and other than 90° angle of attack. very nice though for bench assembly or disassembly work or for a take-along kit that does lots.

Man Doc, I was talking to my screen, “It pushes the quick release, Doc.” Lol I knew you’d figure it out, though. That is a pretty cool ratchet, but I’ve never been a fan of locking flex heads. If I were to get another (traded my last ones), this would be the one I’d get. Thanks for the video.

If you lock it straight, the black sleeve aids in using it as a speed wrench, holding it with your other hand. I absolutely love wera tools, but live on a tekton budget. Good morning

Gonna have to get one of these. It’ll be one of the sets I’m struggling with the decision because I have the complete set of Milwaukee. I just have a thing for hand tools and I never would’ve thought it. We all love power tools but I guess I’m a tiny bit of an intellectual or at least I desire to be and the ingenuity with hand tools is fascinating to me. Knipex, Wera, Fujiya, Wiha and now PB Swiss. Amazing stuff.

Wurth zyklop is much better similar tool. It has way more angles to lock, almost stepless and my favorite feature that it has handle that locks into handle like that OR it can swivel into T-handle. It's awesome when working with motorcycle fairings as you can get very good feel how much force you're using.

I was hoping you had one of the small kits this ratchet comes in.The small black plastic bit is the speed part of the tool, you can hold it while spinning it for a little more control. Which brings me back to the kits, there is one ,ratchet set 28 in 1/4', that I think you would like as it comes with a wobble extension, a 6 inch extension with the speed plastic cover and a neat 1/4" drive hex bit adapter which is for the medium length bits that come in the set it also has either SAE or Metric sockets. These ratchets are great but when combined with the other items in the kits it becomes pretty dang awesome! Glad to see you taking a chance with Zyklops!

you can "lock" that Cornwell and most of the same design ones by tightening the side screw, it's not perfect but depending on how you work it's doable. my TH737 takes a 3/32" hex to adjust the tension, advantage is less bulk than the Wera but uses another tool for setting and some more time.

The offset is good for bolts in recesses or sunk holes. I find myself often grabbing the short extension to have more room for my knuckles. This (15-20°) angle would solve that problem a lot better.

Out of all my ratchets, my Wera Zykops has ended up being my go-to unless there’s a specific problem that requires a different ratchet (e.g. torque, reach, and so on). And it’s a lot stronger than expected, and despite abuse, remains in good shape. Looks weird, but it’s a serious tool.

I just picked up one of these 1/4" ratchets about a month ago, it's excellent. I got the 28 piece set "8100 SA 9 Zyklop Speed Ratchet Set" It comes with a short wobble adapter, a 6" extension, a 1/4" rapid hex drive adapter, 3/16 to 1/2 sockets, phillips and pozi bits, Hex 5/32 to 1/4 bits, and torx tx10 to tx30. It's a damn near all in one tool for hvac fasteners in a nice little case.

The "flat" angle is the angle you will get the most torque, so there is a reason for it lol.
@lastbesttool
@lastbesttool 3 жыл бұрын
I know a 90 degree torque vector will provide the highest transfer of mechanical energy but introduce a human and things change. The grip angle when adding fingers, wrist, arm and shoulder all cause a change in energy transfer to the ratchet handle. I noticed that I could more comfortably hold the handle at that 30 degree angle lifting my fingers above the base and and pushing/pulling at an angle where I could explore different biomechanics. There's something to it. Just not sure exactly what.
@iamfuckingyourwaifuandther2743
@iamfuckingyourwaifuandther2743 3 жыл бұрын
@@lastbesttool The power that comes from "biomechanics" can be from a reduction in length from a joint, or using a larger muscle group. I think the reason you might be experiencing more leverage from angling the handle might be because it raises your arm up enough to where you reduce the vertical distance between your hand and your elbow more than the reduction in distance between the handle and socket, so the total is more than what you had with the flat angle. If that's the case you should be able to just move your body lower so your shoulder, or your elbow are in line with the socket, and in that case the "flat" angle should give you more leverage. I haven't thought about this with actual paper and pen, just initial thoughts, would be a fun video for you to do though :P

I guess the comfort/control question is more important here given that this is a 1/4" swiveled ratchet that I imagine I could snap apart with my left hand while blindfolded. So I can just add a bit more oomph and enjoy the benefits of a few degrees of comfort angle.

@@lastbesttool You might be surprised at how well the little ratchet holds up to abuse. It feels flimsy in the hand with all those plastic parts, but I have used it to extract some really obnoxious rusted 1/2" fasteners in oil furnaces. I hate abusing my tools, but sometimes I'm in a crawlspace and I use what I have at hand.
