As a kid, mom would take us every year to a national park. Zion was the first when I was 5. We did zion a bunch more times til our last camping trip before I got out of high school. I went and got an application from the lodge and as soon as school let out, mom put me on a greyhound to my new home in zion. Best place I ever lived

Of all the road trip videos of the Southwest this one is the best. A good subtitle would be "eating our way thru Utah" and the kids' attitude "I like mud" and sense of adventure was delightful. Subscribed and looking forward to more scenic wonders.

I really appreciate the reminder about water and food! I think that's easy to overlook and can be so critical. Even short hikes in hot temps require a lot of hydration

If you ever visit South Africa (SA), be sure to rent an RV to travel through and stay over in the various Provinces and National Parks. There are loads of sightseeing opportunities and lookout points throughout our beautiful country and it’s National Parks. Your video made me think of Bourke’s Luck potholes in SA where the river have formed vortex like holes in the river bed. Also, in the same Province there is a so called Panorama Route where one can visit the many waterfalls in the area. So much more beauty to behold. Enjoy.

Just got back a week ago from the five national parks in Utah. This video makes me want to turn around and go right back! I flew into the St. George Airport from Daytona with a short stop over in Dallas Fort Worth.. it was so nice to see you and Cheryl again and your family and also Dennis and Clare in this video. I did get to visit Stone Canyon State Park in St. George and then we were off to Zion. Hiked along the Virgin River. The Narrows was closed due to the swift running river. You sure know where to find the good pie stops! I did enjoy eating mine at the Gifford House. I also visited Goblin Valley State Park and Dead Horse State Park. Stopped in Green river to see the John Wesley Powell museum and ate at the Tamarist. Sunrise at Bryce was one of the highlights of my trip. Your videos are the best! So informative with wonderful suggestions.

We have not done the night five, but we’ve visited Bryce, Grand Canyon and Zions in one trip. Arches, 4 corners, horseshoe monument, Lee’s ferry and Glen canyon dam in another, then did Yellowstone last year. Next year it’s the Redwoods. We absolutely love the National parks!! I definitely want to visit the rest of the mighty 5. Really enjoyed tagging along with you folks.

This is so informative!! We are wanting to go early May, which hopefully won't be as busy since school won't be out yet. At 62 I'm not sure I can do all the climbing you guys did so I'm thankful you showed things I might not get to see. I hope we can stop at some of the amazing state parks but not sure how to do that with our 3 dogs. If we are camped they will stay in the camper but we can't venture too far or too long with them. All of these parks are just beautiful.

I really, really appreciate and enjoy all your videos! Your style is so natural and genuine - like I can imagine that’s how I would be if I were to do what you do. I’m an older experienced amateur photographer with wedding, sports, and a dabbling in wildlife experience (currently wildlife is my main interest. I have a camper van which lends itself for nimble travel like your truck camper. I notice in your videos you seem to find campsites fairly easily near your shooting location. We were in the Tetons this past September and didn’t see any places where we could just pull off for the night. How do you find where to spend the nights in your photography areas. Again, you have a very refreshing style on KZbin!

You can pick up a handful of "potshards" Typically an elevation of 4000 ot 6000 feet and if it each piece were dated accurately the range would be as old 25000 years. And, often as young as 500 years. It suggests a huge fresh water lake that covered the area known as southern Utah and Nevada and Northern New Mexico and Arizona. The best camping night around Moab can be on a sand bar at the Colorado River or in a alpine LaSalle Forrest at 10,000 feet. One of the attractions is the surgically clean sand. You can roll in it and feel cleansed either when dry or wet on the river. I have drank the water from the river when you had to let solids settle in a one quart mason jar. Living in San Diego or Arizona, you wake up not knowing whether it is summer, winter, spring or fall. in the Moab area, the time of year is obvious. The Glen Canyon Dam has turned the four corners area into a wonderland with the rainfall more than doubling. Additionally, the recreational possibilities has brought people to the area that I knew as an empty wasteland. Iguana

I will most likely do the drive again but this time I'm restricted on days. Most of my viewing will be roadside or very short hikes. Any tips on the biggest bang for your bucks stops for this sort jaunt?

One of the easiest stops will be Bryce Canyon. Drive the 18-mile road in and out of Bryce Canyon and stop to look at the overlooks. Most of them are very close to the parking lot. Enjoy your quick drive through.

The same week you did this, we started at Capitol Reef and ended up at Zion Easter weekend stopping at most of those stops and the other ones you had in a video last year. You need to add the Pickle Pie and Pinto Bean Pie in Bicknell to your pie tour list. Though my wife did not like either one, I still call them "family favorites" She went for the Buttermilk Pie which was good, but came in third place in my book.

A passenger vehicle can get you most everywhere you need. There are a few dirt roads in Capitol Reef and Canyonlands that a 4wd might be nice but other than that, a car is fine. Check out Campendium.com for more info about dry camping: www.campendium.com/utah/free-camping

Where can I find that? I would like to do this same route more or less. Trying now to figure out the Bryce-Willis Creek - to Escalante - which looks like over a 5 hour leg so I don’t think I have that part right. Can you please send me a link to your guides to purchase? Really enjoyed following this video (along with many of your others). We're heading over from Perth (Western Australia) in May-June and will be visiting Utah's Mighty Five including quite a number of the stops you visiting on your trip (sadly we will miss a few that looked cool - especially in Escalante National Monument - as relying a rental means unpaved roads are off limits). Watching this has helped boost the excitement, including for all the pie!! We start in San Francisco, dropping in to Pinnacles and Joshua Tree National Parks, on to Vegas, do the Mighty Five, then continue from Arches to Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Petrified Forest National Park, Sedona, Grand Canyon (North and South), Page, Arizona's stretch of Route 66, Great Basin, the Loneliest Highway, Lake Tahoe before finishing back up in SF. Can't wait!!

This is an awesome video that really breaks it all down so well. Great job! I am currently dog-sitting for my cousin and her family while the do a massive 3 week trip out west, including these Utah stops (she has a brother-in-law that lives in St. George). Can't wait to hear their experience, not sure they're as prepared as they could have been with videos like these. I do have a big question. A recent video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWirnpdji9CAf68, about park overcrowding that was very informative and incredible to think about but I have no idea what solutions could be presented to curb this. What are your thoughts on this growing big problem? As Utah natives, what's your unique perspective? Obviously you welcome and encourage folks like me but when is it too much? I know you did a Zion crowds video but the general subject of park overcrowding and how to help it would make for an interesting video maybe.

It’s a nightmare. It’s so annoying. Apply well in advance because it takes them forever sometimes. And each park is different. No predictable process. Sometimes I’ve had to challenge them a bit on their interpretation of the rule. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Hi I have a question, If you have The Interagency Access Pass do you have to pay any other fees like a parking fee or do you just enter and show you card? I am very confused if each park requires a fee to park as well as an entrance fee. Can you clarify? Thank you. BTW love your videos!
@WereintheRockies
@WereintheRockies Жыл бұрын
Your Access Pass will allow you to enter all National Parks for free. Parking inside each national park is free as well. However, if you are traveling to a national park that is very crowded, like Zion, the parking inside the park is limited and many visitors have to park outside the national park and shuttle into the park. In this case, there may be a parking fee to park along the road or in a parking lot (in the neighboring city). I hope this helps.

We arrive for five days in "The Mighty Five" in two weeks so this was a very timely video for us. Keeping our fingers crossed that the Narrows in Zion will be open for hiking. Hopefully your next video will be out before we leave as we will be crossing the Rockies from Pueblo West to Moab. Finally, I just finished reading "Death In Yellowstone" and I'm bringing "Over the Edge Death in Grand Canyon" to enjoy while eating my pie!

@@WereintheRockies. I was only because While we were there on March 29th, an old video of yours was posted on Capitol Reef on my feed. I commented on it, and you all replied, "Yot Here" I took it as here in Utah but seeing this thought maybe you were there the same time we were, and I would have loved to have had the opportunity to thank you both in person for the excellent service you provide for folks, I have shared many times, but I hope you enjoy my gratitude. I am visually impaired and love to plan trips for my family. Our first big trip was to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. The trip was flawless, and when my wife asked how I planned such a fantastic trip, I started by saying, "Let me tell you about a wonderful couple from Utah." From the bottom of my heart, Thank you!. These 2 tiny words do not capture my full gratitude. It really means the world to me. Much love to you both!
