The CoG are one of my favorite Tribes, right after the Furies and Red Talons. The Children have some very good points about the behavior of the Garou and how they sometimes benefit the Wyrm without knowing it. Like you said, too, the fact that they bottle up their rage until it's most needed makes their Rage more powerful when the situation calls for it. It makes them very formidable opponents when they do choose to fight, even to the point that even the Get would think twice about taking on that kind of rage. Also, they aren't really hippies. Pacifists/peaceniks, sure. Environmentalists, absolutely. Those two things don't automatically make someone a hippie. There are other aspects of it that the Children don't involve themselves with.

I never saw them as Hippies, but instead as Garou who do not succumb to anger like others, but instead go on the bias of needing to unify the creations of Gaia. They've never been against violence, but instead citing the need to fight for what's necessary, not mindlessly.

I actually like the Children of Gaia namely because they seem to be one of the few tribes who actually care about the mission of the werewolves while many of the other tribes-particularly the Shadow Lords, Silver Fangs, Red Talons, and especially the Get of Fenris-are busy killing each other or other Fera simply because they believe werewolves are superior while meanwhile the Wyrm is gathering in strength and the werewolves are weakening through their petty divisions. The Children of Gaia have actual focus.

I played a Child of Gaia who was a former Stargazer, that disagreed with the tribe's decision to withdraw from the Garou Nation. As a result he went Ronin briefly, and was eventually taken in by the Children. I based him on the character of Kwai Chang Caine from Kung-Fu, where he was this kailindo monk, trying to help people and promote peace, but if you get on his wrong side, he will beat you silly and toss you through a tavern window.

CoG Ahroun are one of the most terrifying things in WoD. The reason being that they are the phrase "Fury of a Patient Man" personified. Never be in the same zip code as one who fails a Rage Check

Children of Gaia are more interesting as a foil for the other tribes - when you have groups like the Get who let their Rage do the thinking for them, or tribes like the Shadow Lords that let power politics get in the way of what is good for the Garou Nation, it adds a lot of interest to the setting to have a tribe whose function is basically to point out how myopic and self-destructive the views of some of the other tribes are in the longterm. Their courage is not so much physical as it is moral - while the Get represents the bravery of the men who charged into certain death in battle, the Children represent the bravery of the black children who walked into the fire hoses and dogs of Bull Connor's police in Alabama back in the 60s. Peace is a risk, just as much as war is, especially for a nation of warriors. Without them, and without the Garou in other tribes who sympathize with their views, the setting would be a lot more one-dimensional.

No, I actually think that you gave a very positive portrayal of them, despite your hippie prejudices, lol. They're honestly not even my favorite tribe, but I think a lot of people underestimate what they bring to the setting by acting as a foil for the other tribes. I think it's an overlying stereotype (which you really don't indulge in, thankfully) that they're the "wussy drum circle" tribe, when they've been standing up to the rest of the Garou nation and taking it to task for its bad decisions for most of its history. It takes a lot of courage to go into the midst of a Black Spiral HIve, but it takes just as much to stand up in front of the assembled elders of the Get, Fianna, Furies, Silver Fangs, Shadow Lords, et al and tell them they're *wrong*. They haven't always made the right calls, but if I had to pick one tribe that kept its eye on the long game more than any other, it would be the Children

There are certain strength but the comparing people standing in front of hoses and taking gunfire as your buddies are getting wasted is a VERY offensive comparison. There is strength in restraint sometimes but everybody has limits. Thats why when people say violence doesnt solve anything isnt being realistic.

I made a Garou of the CoG known as Half-Heard. She's kind of a Jill-of-all-Trades. In her pack, she can't out-fight the Ahroun, out-think the Phillodox, or out-talk the Galliard, but she's decent enough at all of these things to get by. What makes her valuable is what makes her so good at filling the roles of Theurge and Ragabash, the ability to see past the obvious and consider the unorthodox. She's not a hypocrite. She seeks peace but is not afraid to get her fangs bloody. And ultimately, her goal is to protect innocents and nature above all else. Hers is the job of suggesting alternate battle plans with lower bodycounts or less damage to the area or what have you.

Savage Peacemakers. Everyone forgets that part. My Child of Gaia Philodox had no problem dealing with Get of Fenris or any of the more violent tribes. You don't condescend to them, you don't lie to them and if they disrespect you, you rip them a new one, or at least fight your heart out. Once you make them respect you, you make them listen to you. The CoG and the Get of Fenris are tied for my favorite tribes.

For me, it's the young Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid, mainly Peace Walker, but the Phantom pain as well for Venom Snake. Even in game you can use non lethal combat and turn enemies to allied soldiers. Without him the world would have turned into an end. Just like without the Children. "I'll do it for her, for Paz"

In my honest opinion, I believe the COG are more akin to that of priests than of hippie. The gentlemen gamer made a good portrayal of what they actually want. To explain what I mean, you would have to k ow that of the tribe, The Silver Fangs, Shadow Lords, and Children of Gaia are regarded as the leaders. To describe them would be as follows: The Silver Fangs are the Aristocrats, they lead through their lineage and charisma. The Shadow lords are the Yago (If you don't know think machiavelli). They lead through cunning and guile. Last are the Children of Gaia, the priest. They are among the most accepting of the tribes and are very spiritual. What this all means is that what the COG want is that if the other 2 tribes are gone, they would able to achieve their true goal of unity under their banner. And it does not end there. They intend to unite all fera under them, so when the apocalypse happens, they simply would start what would be considered a crusade for the changing breeds.

Chimestry in order to be realy a trouble has to be combined with auspex in the lower levels. From level 4 and above, like most disciplines, tends to be abusive. Thankfully Garou can dispell Chimerstry with primal urge in wolf forms.

@@IloveOtherPplsMsry In the campaign I'm going to be a part of Rage in California has it's synopsis that the situation has gone to shit in the worst way possible basically King Albrech of the Silver Fangs led a barely organized allied force to bring down a Wyrm spirit and the barely organized allied force barely succeeded in forcing the Wyrm spirit to retreat with Albrech dying during the battle, and after Albrech died pretty much the Garou Nation basically started falling apart at the seams. The downfall after Albrech's death goes like this the Silver Fangs due to their inbreeded and genetic insanity have taken their delusional idea of being the Alpha tribe to absurd new levels and declared a war of conquest on the other tribes, the Shadow Lords are taking advantage of the Silver Fangs' increased insanity and have now begun making plans to oust the Silver Fangs as the Alpha tribe and take power for themselves, the more radical Children of Gaia have taken power ending the tribe's notion of peace and replaced it with a philosophy centered on violent actions, and joined forces with the Black Furies to become radical Eco-Terrorists, the Wendigo and Uktena have joined forces and gone into hiding to protect the remnants of the Apis tribe and try and revive the Croatans, the Stargazers basically left the nation and joined the remaining Fera tribes in being neutral, the Fianna and Get of Fenris have joined forces and conquered Europe and closed it off, the Bone Gnawers are in a real bad spot with their kinfolk succumbing to drugs, and violence at an alarming rate forcing the Gnawers to focus only on protecting their kinfolk and no one else, the Cyberdogs faction came back with a vengeance and took over the Glass Walkers and ensured the tribe abandons the Wyld entirely and become servants to The Weaver with the intent on turning the planet into a world that is a fusion of the organic and the digital including turning humans into humanoid machines, the Silent Striders have gone back to Egypt in order to deal with a Children of Set Methuselah that is growing in power, and the Red Talons have retreated north and become even more extremist and vicious towards humanity seemingly forgetting that the Wyrm is the true enemy and focus squarely on exterminating humans. The only good thing is that the Black Spiral Dancers for the most part have gone into hiding but most of them have retreated back to the Wyrm to go back to full strength with the Garou Nation bickering amongst themselves on whether to wait for the Dancers to return and finish them off, or screw waiting and take the fight to weakened Wyrm-tainted tribe and finish them off for good. And the Wyrm has become even more clever then usual with its human agents the corporation Pentex and its subsidiaries growing in power and influence. And Gaia distraught over the fact the 13 tribes have seemingly failed in their roles as Gaia's defenders forcing Gaia and Luna to create a new tribe to serve as Gaia's protectors via Gaia turning worthy humans, and wolves into Garou with Luna protecting them from the weakness of Silver but at the cost of this new tribe only having three forms Homid, Lupus, and Crinos, this new tribe known as the Ghost Wolves serve as Gaia's "Phantom Avengers" and "Hidden Protectors" tasked with succeeding where the 13 tribes royally F'd it up, And me and the other players play as Garou of the Ghost Wolves tribe.
