A study on the Cu Faol Wolfhound by Lugh would be cool too. Apparently it was in 19th century that they really disappeared so that by the 20th a new type had to be made. I think an original wolfhound was used but there are differences now.

The Irish for wolf is" Mac an tíre " which translates to Son of the Land. It was under Cromwells orders during the invasion in Ireland that all wolves be hunted down and killed. The reason for this was the wolf was part of Gaelic culture. And at that time thats what our neighbor's were all about trying to bring an end of the great Gaels. And also to make way for the planters..

That is only one of many names. Fáel and cú are likely the most archaic whereas mac an tíre is poetic. Fáel comes directly from PIE *waylos meaning "the howler" a name used for a wolf without naming it, which was taboo, an idea which mac an tíre carries on with a name that doesn't name it, or cú, naming it a hound.

About the wolf cult stuff: I'm Hungarian, and I really like myths and folklore, but unfortunatly from my country, not a lot of things left to us. However, the word farkas, which is the word for wolf in Hungarian, means "the one who has a tail". Similarly, the word szarvas, which is the word for deer/elk means "the one who has an antler". Interestingly, of all the British isles, the wolves lasted the longest in Ireland, well into the 18th century. The English used to call Ireland wolfland as a pejorative in the 1600’s

It doesn't mean that Ireland is part of the U.K. It simply means its geographical position within the globe. The exact same reason that Great Britain is part of Europe, even without the E.U. Also, we are called 'Scots' not 'Scotch'. Scotch is something your mum drank too much of when you were in her womb.

The Government, including the Department of Foreign Affairs, does not use this term." NO ONE with any sense calls Ireland part of the British Isles. If they are speaking of both places,they say "these islands". It would behoove the map makers to change it. Its just as annoying to us here as calling you Scotch,instead of Scots. I have been in Hawaii 5 years now. One of the main reasons I moved here was because of the strong traditions of myths such as that of the Dogmen Tribes that there are many legends of here across the islands. That was the best take on werewolves I have heard. When you experience trained attack dogs of today it’s instantly obvious how in a time of tribes and conflict a hound by your side that would give its life without question, not be corrupted or stab you in the back could easily be held in high regard. Not only could they fight in battle but provide food, and like us had great stamina and strength. Unlike many other species wolves/dogs ability to bond as a family unit must have linked our destiny aswell. The way you speak of people projecting their mind into that of wolf rather than a literal metamorphosis makes perfect sense and maybe one of the abilities we lost or that is just dormant in some of us.

I grew up in America. Studied much Shamanism. Michael Harner's famous book on the subject, "The Way of the Shaman" discusses at length "Dancing your Power Animal." Most travelling communities keep closer to the “old ways” and if you look at the mythology that surrounds the celts and hounds on the british isles its one of the most closely linked companionships between man and animal. So you may find the echoes of celtic ancestors in a love for hounds even today possibly. I have tried to find information on the celtic warhound with little success. But i also don’t doubt similair situations being found across the world in many travelling communities threw time. Dogs would provide food and protection, only common sense for any travellers in a far less forgiving world.

Christians hated wolves back then. Ireland was just late to the wolf extermination party because Christianity and Catholicsm reached it much later than most of Europe. You will notice that areas void of Abrahamic religion, are far more wolf friendly. In fact wildlife in general seems to fare better in areas void of Dominion dogma.

Its funny after spending a year talking with a native elder in north america I realized that the native american faith at least in the north east strongly resembles ancient european faith. We must collapse the systems worldwide in order to do so. Do what is worst for government while still being legal to avoid trouble (expose their dirty habits that they try to censor or hide, vote for no one/take no political side, create a society that is staunchly anti government through educating people on all it's failures and encouraging free thought), do what is worst for organized religion (expose its worst aspects, boycott it, and weed it out of positions of power), do what is worst for systems like economy (self sufficiency and not relying on them for sustinence is one good way, as is finding innovative ways to produce goods that don't include items manufactured by them), do what is worst for the existence of society/civilization (buy up large spaces of land and refuse to sell or allow development, go against societal norms/morales, discourage human reproduction, and give absolutely no aid/participation to human based clubs, groups, charities etc), extinguish any possible future uprisings of power until the modern day is long forgotten (any humans who try to claim leadership over any group of people's should be taken out, as well as anyone trying to make or pass unnecessary laws). If enough people do this for long enough, and find ways to resist their efforts to force us back into line, the ropes of control will fall and we will be free again, and keep our freedom. If you don't want all systems gone completely, you can also do what I call "training" LOL. When they work in your favor and allow you more freedom, you give them less of a hard time and behave better towards them back. When they create unjust restrictions or preach oppressive idealogies, you give them a very hard time by completely (or at least significantly) withdrawing your support and money. People are like dogs. If they behave well to you, praise them and they'll learn. If they behave badly to you, punish them and they'll learn. Be an alpha and they will stop trying to control you.

An Fáelad ( The wolfshape) are a tribe of Warriors who wear wolf skins. The fur goes down the body and the wolf head was on the head. And yes they did imitate wolves so much they acted animalistic in nature. They as your man said they were warriors for hire. They were violent and often went into a beserker rage and killed everything. People thought they transformed into a wolfman. There are still sightings of these people today especially down the south in Munster. They could be down there roaming the south. Cú Chulainn was a beserker warrior and he went through a Ríastrádh which was a transformation that increased his muscle mass spiked his hair, bulged his eyes, and drove him completely mad.

Stay in a mind state long enough, it starts to affect the soul. Keep the soul at this state long enough, it starts to affect the body. It's all about energy. In the case of shapeshifting, an insane amount of it. This is partly how people can literally die of grief, but it also provides one of the keys to changing physical form. This is how even people who can't fully shift, can change things like eye color, their voice, body hair, and even bone/facial structure. It just takes an insane amount of soul or "chi" energy to do it, which most people simply cannot reach. A good place to start however, is energy manipulation and energy feeding. The other keys I am still trying to learn.

Very interesting to learn about different cultures and their myths about werewolves/dog headed men. It is even a recurring theme amongst cultures who never interacted with each other. Strangely enough there are still reports of man/wolf creatures, even here in the USA. While some encounters may be fiction, many seem to have enough similarities to suggest that a creature similar to Bigfoot may exist.

I've always been fascinated by wolves and werewolves. Partially, I think it's because of my mixed European heritage. I'm part Greek, part Irish, part Scottish, part German, and part Finnish. All of those countries have wolves as part of their natural history as well as werewolf stories in their folklore.

I have always felt that humans saw a bit of themselves in wolves, like hunting and living together in groups, holding territory having a hierarchy within the group (alphas and such) that made us identify with them. In the old days we had philosophical traditions that had thousands of years of research put into analysing and categorizing the various divisions of mind, spirit and body, along with rituals to mediate the influence of subtle psychic forces. Old religions can't be understood by modern minds because most are indoctrinated to believe in an external god and an individual personal saviour. In ancient times there was no division between the concept of life in general and divinity. Forms differed by degree, quality or aspect. This type of thinking and belief in an inner divinity which could be cultivated over long periods of time also gave rise to the belief in transmutation. In wolf cults, for example, by mimicry they were able to hold the form of a wolf mentally, their body was able to suitably express this will and they were able to shift spiritual identification from a human to a wolf. It's no different to a man becoming a Buddha, a prophet, a yogi, a mystic, an account, an architect or whatever other societal temporal role we choose to fill. There's actually a lot about ancient traditions that could be really useful as the basic concepts and approaches are already familiar to us with science, which in turn is just magic that works consistently. This type of dynamic belief is very much like a programming language that could be used to cultivate any number of useful and beneficial states of awareness we want. Be glad, that there where no free Wolfs in Ireland. Here in Lowersaxon in Germany we've got about 40 Packs. It's more than in hole France... They're strolling in the Villages and Cities without any fear by daylight. One night = 40 sheep killed. They're catching dogs, chasing Horse and Riders, and staring through the frence at your children, when playing in the garden...😖 We hope that we're allowed soon to reduce them...

MY SUGGESTION IDEAS FOR (IRISH WEREWOLVES) BEING MADE INTO A MOVIE & THEM IN A SERIES: I think it might be good to have a (IRISH WEREWOLVES) movie get made someday. I also think it might be great to involve them in a series; Now I can imagine a scenario in which tribes of genuine good (Irish WereWolves) fight against a race of LEPRECHAUNS that are half demon, and I envision this situation being shown in a live-action show series instead of being shown in a movie.

Australia has the dingo, a long distant relative of the Asiatic wolf. Dingos go by many aboriginal names. They are tied very closley to aboriginal people, the dreaming, famiky story and the land. A similar clip on dingo's would-be cool.

A few years back I wandered off to San Francisco on a frivious fancy & found myself out on the town on Saint Patrick's Day. The road led me to a place called "The Voodoo Bar" & I found myself feeling, oddly enough, right at home . After hours I was all aglow & fully in my cups with some debonair fellows from a visiting rugby team & the lady tavernkeep. According to the mythos of (then quite drunk herself) hostess Saint Patrick "drove the gays out of Ireland" in order to gain his notable worldly proclaim & recognition. Blasphemous & somehow wildly off base from its original telling, I'm sure, but that's how she laid it out for me. Call me a sinner & feel free to keep me in your prayers but I must admit I was wildly amused by the telling at the time. That said, I much prefer this werewolves narrative. Somehow a bit more majestic, I suppose...

Thinking of the Fianna Fae which would translate as Warriors of the other realm able to perform feats not available to ordinary warriors. The Norse, Vikings in particular were very prevalent in Ireland maybe lending of their Ulfhednar cult of wolf spirit warriors to the Irish culture. I also think the Norse took the wolf spirit belief onwards to America long before the 10thc & either taught it to the Native tribes or amalgamated with already wolf spirit beliefs.

Intresting about that the spirit take the shape of a wolf while the body sleeps. In norse mythology the hero Bodvar Bjarke sleeps while sending his spirit to battle in tve shape of a bear, when he gets woken and have to join the battle the bear vanish.
