Werner Herzog en la TV chilena

Esta entrevista fue realizada en 1999 por Cristián Warnken al cineasta alemán Werner Herzog, para el programa de televisión "Caja negra" de Canal 13 (Chile). Se comparte a través de este espacio como material complementario del módulo Cine y Literatura, perteneciente al CFG "El arte del cine" de la Universidad de Chile, realizado desde 2008 hasta la actualidad por el profesor Víctor Hugo Ortega.
El uso de este material tiene fines netamente pedagógicos.

En la entrevista, Herzog hace referencia a un manifiesto que escribió dos semanas antes sobre "la poesía en el cine y la verdad profunda". Lo copio íntegro a continuación:
Declaración de Minnesota: verdades y hechos en el cine documental
Lecciones de oscuridad
1. Se declara que el llamado Cine-Verité carece de verdad. Contiene simplemente una verdad superficial, la verdad de los contables.
2. Un conocido representante del Cine-Verité declaró públicamente que la verdad puede encontrarse fácilmente tomando una cámara e intentado ser honesto. Se parece al guardián nocturno de la Corte Suprema que siente el gran peso de la ley escrita y los procedimientos legales. 'Para mí' dice, 'debería haber solo una única ley, los chicos malos tienen que ir a la cárcel'. Desgraciadamente tiene razón en gran parte y en muchos de los casos.
3. El Cine-Verité confunde hecho y verdad, y es como arar entre las piedras. Sin embargo, los hechos a veces tienen un extraño y especial poder que hace que su verdad inherente parezca increíble.
4. Los hechos crean normas y la verdad iluminación.
5. El cine tiene estratos más profundos de verdad, contiene algo poético, una verdad extática. Es misteriosa y esquiva, y sólo puede alcanzarse a través de la fabricación, la imaginación y la estilización.
6. Los cineastas del Cine-Verité se parecen a turistas que captan imágenes entre antiguas ruinas de hechos.
7. El turismo es un pecado, y el viaje a pie una virtud.
8. Cada año en primavera, numerosas personas mueren ahogadas en los lagos de Minnesota cuando pasan con sus trineos en la época del deshielo. Aumentaba la presión sobre el nuevo gobernador para que dictara una ley de protección. Él, antiguo luchador y guardaespaldas, dio la única sabia respuesta posible a ello: “No se puede legislar la estupidez”.
9. Por la presente me deshago de este sometimiento.
10. La luna palidece. La Madre Naturaleza no llama, no nos habla, aunque un glaciar ocasionalmente pete. Y no oigamos la Canción de la Vida.
11. Deberíamos estar agradecidos de que el Universo ahí fuera no conozca sonrisa.
12. La vida en los océanos debe ser un auténtico infierno. Un vasto y despiadado infierno de permanentes e inmediatos peligros. Un infierno, a tal grado, que durante la evolución de algunas especies- incluido el hombre- huyeron arrastrándose hacia algún pequeño continente de tierra firme donde las Lecciones de Oscuridad continúan.

Sigo hace años las entrevistas de Warnken y no tenía idea de esta conversación con Herzog. Es una joya para todo amante del buen cine. El español de Herzog es bastante bueno, detalle que tampoco conocía de este cineasta.

Víctor H Sí, igual es buena, la visto tres veces ya con esta. Pero me parece más interesante siempre esa intención que tiene Warknen de querer hablar como poeta y de recibir desde la alta cultura con la que queda un poco desencajado. Por otra parte, lo bonito de la democracia de las cajas de comentarios es la de poder decir algo fuera del texto como si se lo dijera a uno mismo sin mucho compromiso.

i have to write my opinion on nosferratu movie wich is the best by this artist, i will say it again and again for this movie.i love this movie nosferatu i consider it one of a kind.it has a darkly atmosphere,a hypnotic musik and picture and the filters of the camera where great,it was like a story telling but in a movie or like a poem,this slowlyness some said i think its the part i love,it lets you time to think and imagine,some scenes it takes you with it,it goes quick but slow also,the effects of nosferatu in real time seems natural,no visual effects,kinski ,adjani and all the others actors where perfect for the movie,even kinskis voice it gives a unigue character to the count,all nature scenes are beautifull,the castle is very claustrophobic wich adds to the movie,the first scenes in the table of the castle are terrifying,the lights over the count,the rooms with braking windows the glasses also added a realistic touch over the movie,the nails of kinskis was also very realistic, the face, his make up is very nice,the scene of the cemetery wich adjani was sitting is very darkly beautifull,the rats was adding also ,very clever move,the houses of the town, the river and the boat playing the musik as it travels it creeps you alot,the surreal part that people dancing in the streets or eating in this big table like its a death marriage is madness and the coffins in the streets one back of the other also a madness scene.this tavern in transylvania was very good pointed and even the imperfection of the gypsies somehow i liked it,how they where telling the stories by the fire,then the mountains and the skies was like going up to hell or heaven like gypsies said,how orlock get inside the room of adjani and fleeded by the cross and the beauty like and old portrete of adjani in the mirror and many other scenes,the gothic atmospere but not with a bad overacting way but in a minimal stylish,very unigue face of this beautifull woman adjani and the innocent faces she took like she was mary the mother of christ,that innocent i mean,the costumes,the madhouse was good.you could fell the passion and the love this movie had,the alternative ending, from the first murnaus1922 film different ending again it was very clever, that he continued his legacy though hacker like a vampyre and also the holy bread idea that was holding him inside the cyrcle and then he was free by mistake of the girl that was cleaning the house.the love story was well done,the romantic sadness i say,also the long length of the film is an element i loved,more of this movies atmosphere.it was cold enough but also it was giving you a warm felling as you watched it, i was very relaxed watching it too and overall it was very entertaining experience for me no matter the negative comments some few unknowledged said,this movie isnt for anyone and it isnt for people that expecting to watch a movie like todays twillight with vampyres visuals and stuff,but for me its worthing much much more than those kind of movies...im hoping to see again movies with this old style of storytelling and atmosphere today but i guess this would not be happening again.so thats why i say that this movie is so unigue that i can say its an evolved expressionistic masterpiece for me for all those reasons i said above.i have it in my heart thanks all of them that made it,the director,the actors and to all that worked on this movie and noone can tell me whats a masterpiece for me,is a must have in my movie collection.i sending you my greetings from a greek friend...exc my english
