The sad thing is, it would be interesting to actually have a deeper conversation with him about some of these things. Eg. do emojis reveal a more accurate picture of our inner selves, or are they just another mask-like barrier? As a filmmaker who has often mused on the various levels of "truth", this could have been interesting fare to touch on (if he would cooperate, with Herzog it's never easy to predict how he might respond). Instead they seem to just have collected a bunch of glib soundbytes, press-junket style.

I think it depends mostly on how accurately and truthfully you’re using emojis to convey your actual emotional state. Also context matters, I’ve often used inaccurate emojis for comedic effect, though while the emojis in that case may not literally be conveying my emotional state, they are revealing my sense of humour.

It's... interesting? Could have been infinitely more relevant to talk about what the future of filmmaking might be in the face of new technology, with the use of cheaper cameras and increasingly convincing CGI. That last one especially for a director whose most famous fictional film involved a literal physical ship being dragged across land. Music's definitely all stupid, though, if nothing else.
