Note: I misspoke in this video when I said “this lick doesn’t have many major 7th chords in it.” Clearly, it does. What I meant was the chord progression (ii V iii VI ii V I) does not have many major 7th chords.
If you’re interested in setting up a private lesson, email me at mattlandonguitar@gmail.com.
Happy Practicing!

WES MONTGOMERY HE did not invent it musicians do it all the time inadvertently but HE did make it his signature style because he got to record for so many amazing sessions that HE took his goodness to signature style AMERICAN MUSICAL ROYALTY SIR WES MONTGOMERY YOU INFLUENCED MANY WHAT A GIFT /peace .28 nyc

Of course he didn’t invent it… although, in terms of application to the guitar in the “bebop line block chord solo” style, he was the first to do it, which is kinda like inventing it. Regardless, it was his signature style of block chord soloing, like you said, no matter who “invented” it. He did it best!

Brilliant! I have been working on chord soloing for a few years and have been using the drop 2 voicings a lot (the inversions). Wow - using the alternating major and minor chords in root position is such a simple way to think about it. Brilliant lesson.

Thanks! It’s a Hofner Jazzica. I think it’s a 2005, but I’m not sure about that. I sold it a while back. It sounded great unplugged! I just didn’t like the sound it got with an amp.

Not without explaining what’s happening. I’ve never been a fan of lessons that tell you “what” and “how” but leave out the “why”

This shit don't even sound good. I'm a huge jazz fanatic but this just sounds unsettling throughout, nothing harmonious just dissonance the whole way through. A touch is tasteful but I just don't jive with it but to each their own I guess.

I wonder if listening to it out of context (i.e. no backing) is giving you some trouble. As a musician, I can clearly hear that this lesson vibes with Wes' style (and others).

This approach is in probably 70% of Wes's songs, though, along with his parallel octave runs and single note runs.
