Adeptus, in Latin, is literally "one who has obtained." It basically means someone is good at or has learned (or has become adept) to be a certain way or thing. So saying "adeptus mechanicus" would basically be saying "those who are adept with machines, with mechanics." Just thought I'd throw that in there.

The old artworks are just terrifyingly great... as a kid I could only see if it's chaos or imperium if I looked very closely. The grimdark appareance of the mechanicus or the inquisition just baffled me and I always thought. "These are really the good guys here?".. Only later I understood that they're not good... they're just not corrupted by chaos which doesn't make them automatically good. When I saw the artwork of the emperor on his throne with all the cables in his skelet corpse I thought they just keep him alive to worship him... he didn't talked back in the day so I wasn't that far off.

There's an argument to be said that some of chaos isn't actually that bad. It's less of the chaos worship and more the renegade parts who want to live freely but not wanting to live on a world of subjugation when an entire galaxy of freedom exists is pretty reasonable.

Read Belisarius Cawls new book Genefather. There are some interactions between Tech Priests and the Dark Mechanicum. They dont talk about Fabricator Generals but they do talk about Cawl. Plus, we get interactions between Fabius Bile and the Dark Mechanicum. The Dark Mechanicum doesn't have a Fabricatior General, they're not a single faction, more of a bunch of smaller parties doing their own thing. For instance during Genefather they focus on the Disciples of Null, and they dismiss the name Dark Mechanicum and call themselves the True Mechanicum. Genefather is awesome, definitely give it a read. It has some Huge reveals for the current setting of 40k.

In your video on the Imperial Knights, you said (if I understood you correctly) that they are a kind of "third kingdom" in the Imperium, right after the Imperium itself and the Mechanicus. Is "The Imperium" a catch-all term for any human faction not Chaos-aligned and they're united only by allegience to the Emperor or are they all officially part of the Imperium and just names for different "departments"?
