5/16/23- starting a new multi part series on a vintage Slingerland 1 piston bugle. This has been in penetrating oil for the better part of 5-7 months. Still very difficult to get things to move. But all is well and now on to everything else.

Love your videos. You are a true artist and the amount of time you spend on each horn is amazing. I wish you would talk more about the tool you pick for a certain job and when you are in the process, give a little more explanation on the How and Why you are doing things for the amateur instrument repair folks like me

I do machining and repairs on brass items like art, furniture etc. I used flitz tarnish remover spray on a chair i was polishing and brazing, it looked like it was on the bottom of the ocean in a ship wreck. This spray just melted the tarnish off with no scrubbing. Try it

@Tuca-Luthier. just use paste plumbing flux for copper pipe, use with small brush to apply it.

Is that some homemade penetrating oil? I use acetone and ATF but have also used kerosene and ATF too. Both are better than anything I''ve ever purchased to use.

@@julimusik03 I was researching and found something, but without any confirmation, it would be about diluting zinc in hydrochloric acid (muriatic), which turns into zinc chloride that is used in flux pastes.

This is the style of piston that is in my Czech trumpet. What is the style called? I would like more information on how it goes together because there are both cork and felt in mine and I think it misaligns the valves as this is not the original configuration.
