It is unusual for an expert technician to so willingly share his methods. I applaud this openness and wish more people had a similar spirit. Bless you, Wes Lee.

The lack of passing on is why there are so few techs in the field. No one person with their deep secret techniques can not fix every instrument. And my belief is that we lift the quality of the industry, there will be less hack work. Which is why I first took up the trade, I was a 3 time victim of hack work.

The old engineer's watchword: "Taking a bit more off is a piece of cake; putting material back on is a *****!" Thank you for a very informative video, Wes!

Outstanding tips thanks Wes , recently used some of your techniques, to restore the end of a collapsed pushrod tube on an old Triumph motor cycle engine, thank you, just gently moving the metal back to where it should be over a fitted mandrel

I am a machinist by trade. That is one precision tool - simple, but the correct one for the job. Brilliant !

Never realized that these things were so particular about the relief on mating surfaces. Guess it makes lots of sense considering all the precision that goes into everything else.

Very good sir. Interesting way to fit the bores. I saw lines on your cylinders. Do they step up in discreet steps, or do they taper, and the lines just indicate?

The small barrel shape I held up was 1.75”. My small round burnisher is 3 inches, the larger size close to 5. If I am understanding the correct part.

Do you have any experience with "jean Paul" or "singers day" instruments? Or would you recommend buying a used sax for somone just starting out?
@dougberrett8094
@dougberrett8094 2 жыл бұрын
I hope you don’t mind me jumping in here. Yes, I recommend buying a used saxophone. But with caveats. A used horn for a beginner can be a good choice. The beginner may decide not to pursue music, or really take to it. My son started with a used Bundy. When he started high school, it was apparent he was really committed. We bought him a Selmer Super Action 80 Series II. He went on to play in 3 Texas All-State bands, and a national honor band. A good horn IS a big part of being successful, but drive, talent and GOOD instruction is also critical. It is hard to over emphasize the importance of good instruction. On the other end, really fine instruments are often way better used, than new ones of lesser quality.
