That's a beautiful repair, Wes! Going the extra mile on that dent and water key proves what kind of attention to detail you provide!

Willson euphs are wonderful horns. I think newer Willsons have a nickel lead pipe to reduce red rot. Great repair work as always.

That’s my horn!! Mr. Lee did an amazing job!! I agree. Willson euphoniums are great horns, which is why I was so distraught when I discovered the hole!!

The player did have to drive over an hour to get it in. The seminar was the next day close by at the university so he had it ready in time for 830 registration.

This is so entertaining! I really want to get into music instrument repair. I’m saving up my money to get a basic repair kit, and I will keep adding on and on to it. Thank you for inspiring me!!

Be careful... I did the same some years ago, started small repairs for me and friends, then bought some old instruments, refurbished them and sold them, bought new tools... that's how you end up with around 6000$ of tools (including a buffer and a bench lathe) and at least 4 "work in progress" brass wrecks in your flat and have countless hours of pleasure ! :D

It's about time for me to get my old baritone repaired. I used it in college and when I was still living in the city Iet some people in the band use my horn. It's beat up and dented, and the tubing broke off where the mouthpiece screws in. Some other parts have come loose I believe. I used to hear that there were places that melted horns down and rebuilt them. I don't know if that's true or not

I want to see 2 trumpets combined together just after the valves, halfway between 2 mouthpiece one trumpet and 2 trumpet one bell. For two to play. You probably have the means to make one but I can’t find one anywhere on the internet

A great repair Wes, as a new subscriber I would have liked to se your silver plating set up on this repair. I will have to go hunting for a vid of yours that shows it. Could you point me in the right direction please?

Can’t you use a plastic sleeve with one hole where the wire feels through to protect the valve casing? The disadvantage is that you have less room to move the bal into the tube.

7:35 is there ever a risk of the solder staying liquid long enough to actually drip through the hole being patched? and if so could it pose a problem to the functionality of the instrument?
@rickdenney5772
@rickdenney5772 Жыл бұрын
The secret is closely fitting the patch and putting in just enough solder for capillary action to pull it across the patch area. If the gap is large, you have to feed more solder to fill it, and the risk of an internal solder blob grows.
