This video turned out to be really long but I know there's a lot of our viewers that like to watch us when we RV shop. So even though this was part of our camping trip it turned out more like a travel trailer walkthrough review more than anything else. Hopefully it wasn't too boring.
1st RV Dealer we walked thru... www.asrvs.com/
2nd RV Dealer was www.ralphsrvcen...

For a short overnight stop at truck stops you don 't need the fridge behind the slide, if you have an outside kitchen with a small fridge - like the Open Range 2604RKS. You can use that one for a meal or two.

I enjoy you bringing us along in your rv shopping outings. Have you ever thought of building your own rv? This way you get what you want. Nice kitchen/pantry for Heidi. The right placement of the bed & bath. Maybe an office. And plenty of storage for all. In the early 70's,my dad converted an old Greyhound city bus into a nice motorhome for our family of 7. We traveled to CA, FL, and even into Canada.

The reason all of the bunkhouses have tubs is because they are made for families with small children who may need to take a bath. As far as tubs go the sides are quite low. It you would like a shower you would probably have to go with something without bunks.

By the way, the cable systems are one of the best systems in the industry. Light, and very reliable. They used to not be, but they have gotten very good. Also, the huck bolted frames by BAL are some of the better frames out there. They have great service records, and are lighter than traditional I-beam frames.

The Rockwood you liked is a nice unit. Some friends of ours bought the same one a few months ago, and it seems to be well built. The one thing they did do was remove the chair closest to the door. It was always in the way going in & out. Once you get set up, the chairs always come out a few inches from the wall and take up more space. They pull theirs with a half ton Tundra, without any problems. Good luck in your search.

We just got back from picking up our new RV trailer in Oregon. Yes, we drove 2200 miles (each way) from NE. Ohio to buy a "quality" built RV trailer. Outdoors RV Timber Ridge 24RKS. (28' 8" 6700 dry). Thermal pane windows standard, MorRyde 3000 suspension (shocks & grease-able shackles, 16" Goodyear Endurance E load tires) made for zero degrees....Yes, I wanted a higher build quality than the Elkhart IN. stuff. Hope to get out to West Branch one more time before the snow hits. You have to look what materials go into a quality RV, especially if "Full Timing" is in your future. Little things like, instead of the industry standard 60-70lb. drawer slides they use 100 lb. drawer slides. Instead of two 4000lb axles, they overbuild at two 5200lb axles. 5/8" marine grade floor decking. 35k btu furnace instead of a 25k. We actually bought it one day, and camped 50 miles from the dealer and did the factory tour the next day. (3 hour tour). Outdoors RV is a sister company of Arctic Fox, which builds 5er's, tt's and $50k truck campers. I would say we paid $10k to $14k more than what is on the lot here in NE Ohio dealers....We paid $34.7k

Nice video! Especially because you are staying at West Branch. Watched an earlier video of yours when you're reviewing sites at West Branch. Based on that video, we stayed at one of those sites twice last year. We have it reserved twice this year also. As far as RV shopping, we're all over the place. Some days we want a 5th wheel, other days we want something smaller than our bunkhouse. We won't be full timers, but we want to travel to, and stay at, the National Parks out west. A 20'-22' is probably what we will be going with. We were at All Seasons RV recently checking out the Sonics. Good luck at your RV shopping! I think if we're not camping, that's our favorite past time!

Love the RV reviews. Like you - I really like that Rockwood. One of the floor plans you reviewed was like mine and your comments about relocating the recliner to the dinette area is exactly what I thought about doing with mine. The closets in all the RVs - in the bedrooms are really small - look forward to hearing about what you both decide.

The Paddy Wagon always trying to find away to make anyone of them seem good enough for full time living is hard. Ugh almost stressful lol! I keep thinking to myself that I will make sure I don't attach myself to stuff (which isn't hard for me but Michael on the other hand needs 3 of this and 2 of that lol) I just said the other day we have more junk drawers and cabinets in the camper than we do the house. This shouldn't be an issue. I have a whole set of pots/pans (what for?) I use 1 or 2. Lol as always thanks for watching! ~Heidi~

My Husband and I went threw what you folks are going threw now. Only thing is we had a Class A Motor Home that we sold and went down to a travel trailer. It was very difficult looking at the new campers because as you have found they were not built nearly as well as our 1999 Motor Home. We eventually found a 2011 really nice 22 ft. Gulf Stream with much better quality then the new ones and had been kept inside and well maintained. We were very afraid of the delamination in the newer ones.and as you have found the play in the shower and bathtub floors. We had seen and heard terrible stories about what had happened to people buying new. We have had our used trailer that we purchased from an individual now for about seven months, We are very happy with it. Good Luck in your search. It took us almost a year to finally settle in on the one.

Forest River is owned by Berkshire Hathaway and is the world's largest manufacturer of travel trailers, and I wouldn't own one. Will you consider changing the shower hose to a longer hose and raising the shower head holder.
@Rvdaydream
@Rvdaydream 6 жыл бұрын
Janice Lantz I would but there's still not enough room above.. the bigger picture is not that the small things can be repaired but why do they need to be repaired? If they didn't think out the shower hose and the head room in the shower what else did they not think out oh, what else was not engineered correctly. The standards that these trailers are built under aren't very high and they don't need to be for the most part except when it starts coming to the unit prematurely failing because something wasn't thought about whenever they say engineered the roof design or something more severe like safety whenever they didn't get the tongue weight quite right. I just hate to buy a new RV and then spend $10,000 fixing or correcting all the things that should have been done in the first place. Now some of the things that I have issue with it's just personal preference items but something as simple as a hose that was made too short because it was either cheaper or they just plain missed the Target on it just makes me think that the overall design probably has quite a few other issues that's not even seen on the surface. But it's a good question, should I buy a new RV that has obvious defects and maybe some not-so-obvious ones and just repair and correct as I go? Possibly if the price is right but the overall design and layout has to be pretty darn close to being perfect. Because there are only certain things that can be changed and floor plan layout is very difficult to make your own on something that's already built. Maybe the next few RVs that we look at I'll take a mental inventory of what I would need to change and how much it would cost to do that plus how much labor I would have involved. It's a good point it's a different way of looking at it. Thanks for watching :-)

Catalina’s are constructed very well! The reason they’re less expensive because they cut the frills. I’ll put the construction of my Catalina against any manufacturer. I have a 233DS that measures 27’ from bumper to the tongue. One other thing you need to be aware of is the AC. Most units come with a 13K AC. This will not work in a hot climate such as Oklahoma if your box is over 24’. With my smaller unit , I can run my AC off my generator.

@Rvdaydream
@Rvdaydream 3 жыл бұрын
This is the lightest flooring, seating and cabinet combo offered... Cabinets can always be painted as they are real wood.. This brand is one of the best quality out there.... All wood cabinets, vacuum laminated walls, aluminum six sided cage including dinette and bed frame double welded aluminum, 5/8 marine grade plywood tounge and groove floor, Torsion axles for smooth ride... You should buy the smallest RV your are comfortable with... We are living full-time in our 26 foot box and it is doing the job pretty well...

Just watched your video. Let me give you a warning. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM FOREST RIVER brand of RV's. They have very poor build quality and even worse warranty work. I know of several who bought Forest River without doing the research and their brand new RV has been in the shop for repairs more then they have had time to use it. There have been a ton of complaints to the BBB and even a possible Class action lawsuit about this problem. The company is owned by Warren Buffett.
