That electrical wholesaler is good. Must have been 20 years ago, I bought a burglar alarm to install myself as a keen DIYer, then bought a couple more for friends. Went in just before the Christmas and they gave me a bottle of wine for being a regular!

Hard to imagine all those shops in Bull Street. I don’t know what’s worse with the boarded area, the mural or plain white boards. Personally I think with mural it breaks up the starkness that would be evident if the boards were left unpainted, I think that would make the area look more run down. Another good video, oh and yes those chewing gum machines were brilliant. 😊

I can remember my Mom taking me into town on Saturday in the early to mid 60's shopping and she used to take me to Trows on Bull St and they did ice cream in a glass with a flavoured syrup in the middle

It seems that Trows is fondly remembered. I sometimes wonder whatever became of the owners after their shop was demolished. Did they ever set up shop elsewhere? Perhaps we'll never know. Many thanks BW.

How are you Phil? My wife is from West Brom and when we got married in 2014, we lived in Hill Top for about 14 months. To my amazement, whilst living there, I saw red kites on several occasions. I believe it's because of Sandwell Valley being close by. There's a video online somewhere about red kites in West Bromwich. It's a tough ask but could you at some point do a video about red kites in West Brom? Cheers

Many thanks, I'll see what I can do with regards to the Red Kites. One or two have also mentioned parakeets in Dartmouth Park. I will be visiting the Sandwell Valley soon so hopefully Parakeets and RedKites will be on the agenda

Thanks for the video. That Bond Wolf hotel is now a migrant hotel, has been for quite a while. Those new builds on Bull street look hideous and totally out of place as does that graffiti coloured boarding. I remember there used to be a men's hairdressers by where that nursey is, remember going there once or twice as a youngster, sitting there waiting looking at the crappy magazines 😂

I think most kids in WB,bought their first bike from Shintions,I know I did, that was in 1957.Years moved on. I bought a new Kawasaki motor bike from the Kawasaki showroom. If I remember correctly the showroom was located approximately where that fairly new pinky brownie coloured three block building. Hope I'm right Phil.

I do believe you are quite correct with regards to the motorcycle dealer, I vaguely remember that shop but the name escapes me. It was a Kawasaki dealer beginning with the letter S I think. Good call...Thanks for that

@@awalkwithphil Sorry Phil, I can't for the life of me remember the name of the Motor Bike shop so I had to call it the Kawasaki shop.

That hotel is where the swingers go, they have the top floor and I only know because I knew someone who used to work at the hotel. the club next to it was the chosen few, Shalama restaurant where we all used to go after clubbing. West Brom used to be really good good night life and shopping, it’s not good now for either, makes no difference that they have renovated it, no one will invest in the town it hasn’t got anything to offer.

Well made points, never knew about the swingers club 😄The nightlife is dead now. It speaks volumes when there is a queue outside the Sandwell pub on a Saturday night!!

I've never been a massive fan of West Brom although it did have a few good shops back in the 70's and early 80's but I just can't stand the place now. I go very rarely to the Halifax in the High street. I've found secret parking at the back behind "The Public". I've been passing the Sound and Light shop for many years now and keep promising to go in as I'm trying to to get back into my guitars and music before I'm too old. I fear they'll knock it down soon as they're slowly edging in towards it from both sides with what I call their agenda 21 type buildings. They're soulless just like the ones they've built near ford motors as you go towards Great Bridge and the ones surrounding the Lyng health centre that look like a prison with tiny windows and no garden. I didn't know there was a bike shop in Bull street Phil, you'll probably remember our go to bike shop in Wednesbury was Percy Davis. Our music shop was Discosound. Yes it was a rubbish name but you could buy records downstairs and musical instruments upstairs and play their guitars and drums loudly all day without complaints from neighbours. I did enjoy the seventies where you could go out without feeling lonely or becoming dehydrated. I refer to the people you see now walking down the high street with a phone in one hand against their ear while swigging from a bottle of water in the other hand. DIdn't fancy the video title mate but as usual it was compulsive viewing. Thanks Phil.

Thanks TS, i'll always have fond memories of the 70s. I agree with you on these soulless apartment blocks. We'll have more of the same soon on the other side of Bull Street
