West Coast Express was started in 1965. Chennai Mail was started in 1967. West Coast Express was a superfast Express from the beginning. Chennai Mail was slower till late 70s. It used leave Mangalore in the morning and reach Chennai early morning next day. Now both these trains take almost same journey time.

@@NaveenKumarVlogs yes but generally you have at morning kovai exp 6am, intercity at 2:30pm, now west coast is scheduled at 1:30 pm, so enna na usually If they dont get tickets in kovai or intercity which covers both the morning and afternoon, it's easy to get confirmed in west cost generally as the train goes empty till Salem I think mostly. So that's how west cost has been, it's been a boon to last minute planning. Then you have the Cheran, blue mountain, yercaud for the other times

A train departing from Chennai or A South Indian Train which is so dirty and smell worst is unimaginable but it is true with West Coast Express. It is in bad shape with 0 maintenance. Even 2 AC Coach is bit ok only. It is known for not being punctual. Sorrow of South Indian Railways. Better to avoid this train until it is revamped but still depends on people who travel and whether they keep it clean or not. Most of the passengers in this train are Keralites and North Indians.
