re looking like outback Australia. Yes, some places are similar and I can tell you the architecture of the town's commercial strip at 3:26 is the same in many Australian country towns

In Kenya, on the family coffee plantation, decades of rain forest vegetation turns unpaved road into a gluey mud when rain falls. We have a Unimog with awesome capability, but the glue does get the better of it especially on up-hill sections. Then the winch has to be used. But, it needs to anchor, which is exactly what we use - a boat anchor - works like a charm. Also gets used on steep downhill bits to arrest the Mog sliding off the road into the drainage ditch! Happy trails!

Hey Matt and Nicole! This last video has really inspired my wanderlust and made me reminisce about my flying days in Australia and Namibia and renting Hilux’s with my wife and doing the same types of trips…hoping to get back to a better world now that Covid is starting to get controlled to some degree! Cheers, guys!

Matt, check out ground augers and winch anchors for when there's not a tree in sight to hook the winch to. Believe it or not, they actually work quite well, even in soft sand. For sure will get you out of a bad situation like you were in. Just another tool to have at your disposal to go along with the mats. :-)

Awesome! Recently found your channel, loving it. FYI in sand you should use high range as wheel speed is your friend. Also low range has too much torque multiplication inducing spin before momentum. Also note that wheel spin on traction aids are extremely damaging to them. Keep up the great work

Best way to do it is to contact the land owner and arrange for camping, that’s what we did 👍🏻 it’s definitely doable with a trailer, just don’t go onto the softer sand like we did…

Are those really maxtrax? That looks rather red and not orange, like the ones 4x4direct sells for R1800 a set. If so, let me know if they are as tough because R5k is rather steep for maxtrax. Ive done this trip Aug 2020 as well as the entire Namaqua Eco 4x4 trail. It never gets stale.

They aren’t maxtrax, they are cheaper knock-offs from Takealot. But they work well and haven’t broken yet!
